Welcome to Smogon! Take a moment to read the Introduction to Smogon for a run-down on everything Smogon, and make sure you take some time to read the global rules.
The round begins in a devastating fashion, with Grave making a last ditch effort in releasing all of the energy it had absorbed with Bide! The hit would have done huge damage but Serd managed to get a Protective shield up just in time! The now rendered useless bide attack caused Grave to run out of energy, and it now faints in exhaustion. Serd's energy levels aren't looking too healthy either though, as it took a massive effort to block that last attack.
Ok, so two notes. First the ASB description for Camouflage is a little ambiguous, but it seems to point to the move increasing evasion rather than changing type ala in game, so I'm gonna run with that. Secondly I forgot to mention it when I should have, but Grave's Air Lock long since got rid of the light rain. The arena description said nothing about it increasing the power of water moves anyway.
After Serd was finally able to bring Grave down the task doesn't any easier with the arrival of Haxsis the Stunfisk. Serd begins by attempting to regain some of the energy it spent in getting rid of Grave by chilling out. Haxsis isn't going to mess about though, as she just Discharges all of her pent up electrical energy. She built up so much while waiting in her Pokeball for 7 rounds that it strikes Serd critically! Through some uncanny show of concentration, the Shellder is able to continue to chill out despite being rocked by the super effective attack. Haxsis also responds by setting herself up for future rounds, using her maleable cell structure to Camouflage herself with the surroundings, making him harder to hit. However, her very low speed also makes her easier to hit, counteracting the prior efforts in evasion just enough for Serd's Water Pulse to find it's mark. In fact the strange water waves act to severely confuse Haxsis! The Stunfisk is iniatially able to overcome this confusion however, and fire off another Discharge that once again hits critically. Wow those moves have rocked Serd and really changed the balance of this match.
We return to this battle well into the second half, with Serd using his unusual speed advantage to fire off 5 Icicle Spears, that hit Haxsis hard despite his blending with surroundings. Haxsis then responds by hiding himself even better by Slapping Mud into Serd's face. Serd responds with more Icicle Spears, but this time only 3 out of the 5 he let off find home. Haxsis then lives up to his name, haxing his way to avoiding the latter stages of his confusion and finishing Serd off with another Discharge. Albinoloon has to call back his Shellder, and sends out his final Pokemon in Vayn the Lampent hoping she can finish off the battle in good stead.
This is leading to my inevitable failure, so, let's make this count!
Srart off with a ray of confusion to regain our momentum, then, fire off a heat wave to ignite Haxis as well as the foliage to turn the field to our advantage, then scorch haxis with a flamethrower to the face!
In a last ditch effort to save face Albinoloon sends out his strongest Pokemon, in Vayn the Lampent. She immediately goes to work, firing off a ray of light that leaves Haxsis intensely confused. The confusion doesn't take its toll right away though, because the strange fish thing is able to fire off an Earth Power that hits Vayn hard. The ghostly lantern responds with it's Heat Wave attack, which does good damage to Haxsis but the real key may be the first degree burn it also gave him. This seems to have coupled with the confusion, and Haxsis wastes an action by hitting himself. Vayn looks to move onto the offensive, and fires off a Flamethrower. Unfortunately Haxsis' earlier Camouflage hasn't quite worn off yet and the attack misses. Haxsis is likewise unable to capitalise, instead just hitting himself again. The pain from the burn also hurts Haxsis but at least the confusion is gone now.
This battle is definitely nearing the end, and both combatants seem ready to get it over with. Vayn attempts the same strategy as last round and leads off with a Confuse Ray. This one is slightly less effective though, and only leaves Haxsis slightly confused. The confusion has no immediate effect either, as Haxsis is able to fire off an Earth Power that does a lot of damage. Vayn responds with her Flamethrower which itself does some good damage, but when Haxsis fires off a Scald right back Albinoloon begins to look worries. Vayn finally goes back to her favourite Heat Wave attack, really hurting because of her lack of super effective attacks. Haxsis, who avoided his confusion for this entire round, then fires off another Earth Power to leave Vayn just barely concsious. This one will be over very soon folks.
Vayn opens up this very possibly final round of the battle with another Heat Wave, needing a crit to take Haxsis down... but unfortunately luck does not strike. Instead the flattened fish responds with a Sludge Wave that brings Vayn down and secures the win for his team. But right after she executes the move her burn kicks in and also brings her down. At least securing a KO for Vayn's hard work.
