[SET COMMENTS]

With its Fire / Ghost-typing, and the ability to double its Attack with Thick Club, Alolan Marowak is a very unique Pokemon within the tier. Thanks to Thick Club, Alolan Marowak’s attack is very impressive, the downside being Alolan Marowak is left rather predictable, as it has to use Thick Club in order to be viable. Alolan Marowak is also left hugely crippled if it ever has its item removed via Knock Off, even ignoring the fact that Alolan Marowak’s Ghost typing leaves it vulnerable to Dark type attacks. Alolan Marowak can switch in on passive Pokemon such as Clefable and Amoonguss and begin to wall break from there, and should be used as such. Swords Dance boosts Alolan Marowak’s attack to very high levels, allowing Alolan Marowak to demolish walls. Flare Blitz hits incredibly hard thanks to its base 120 attack, and thanks to Rock Head Alolan Marowak doesn’t suffer from recoil damage. Poltergeist is a newly added Ghost-type attack with a solid base 110 power. Keep in mind when using this move that it will fail if the target doesn’t have an item. Earthquake rounds off Alolan Marowak’s coverage, allowing Alolan Marowak to hit Rock-type Pokemon such as Tyranitar and Terrakion. Bonemerang however is an option to consider, as it hits a target multiple times, and more importantly, isn’t affected by Grassy Terrain. Adamant is the preferred nature for this set, as Alolan Marowak’s Speed is rather slow anyway.

Alolan Marowak is primarily used on bulky offense teams looking for a Wallbreaker. Alolan Marowak’s teammates should focus on helping Alolan Marowak with its weaknesses. While Alolan Marowak is hard to switch into, Aqua Jet users such as Azumarill and Urshifu-R are able to revenge kill it. As such, Rillaboom can make for a great teammate, just be sure to use Bonemerang if Rillaboom is used. Dark types such as Urshifu and Hydreigon can revenge kill Alolan Marowak, Hydreigon in particular being troublesome as it resists every attack Alolan Marowak uses. Bulkier Dark-types such as Tyranitar and Mandibuzz can also switch in and give Alolan Marowak trouble. As such, Fighting and Fairy-types such as Urshifu and Primarina can act as great teammates. Stealth Rock chips away at Alolan Marowak rather quickly, so entry hazard support in the form of Defog, Rapid Spin, or Magic Bounce can be beneficial. While not as common, Alolan Marowak shines on Trick Room teams looking to capitalize on its low Speed, turning it into an advantage. Because of this, Trick Room users such as Hatterene and Porygon-2 can make for great teammates. Hatterene in particular has great type synergy, can offer support in the form of Magic Bounce, and provides Trick Room support. If Trick Room is the path you’re looking to go down, be sure to change the EVs and nature of Alolan Marowak to better suit Trick Room. Lastly, while not necessarily any particular teammate, the move Knock Off should be avoided or used less on Alolan Marowak's team, as Poltergeist will fail against targets without an item.
