Ampharosite Clefable

[SET]
name: Mold Breaker Utility
move 1: Soft Boiled
move 2: Moonblast
move 3: Stealth Rock
move 4: Heal Bell
item: Ampharosite
ability: Magic Guard
nature: Calm
evs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 SpD

[SET COMMENTS]
Ampharosite Clefable is a good pick for balance teams as it compresses several important roles and performs well as a support Pokemon. Acquiring Mold Breaker upon Mega Evolving allows it to set Stealth Rock reliably as well as maintain them versus several common defoggers, such as Sablenite Mandibuzz and Manectite Mew. Magic Guard before Mega Evolving and access to Heal Bell alleviate the burden that Status places on balance staples, including Clefable itself. As such, Clefable offers fantastic support to fellow defensive Pokemon like Sablenite Corviknight and Hippowdon and Manectite Mew, who are susceptible to being worn down by Status. With a good defensive typing in Fairy/Dragon post Mega Evolution, Clefable can put its decent defensive stats to good use against several common threats. Namely, the above set aims to reliably counter Hydreigon and Dragapult. When using Clefable, sometimes it can be wise to withhold from Mega Evolving immediately, particularly when the increased vulnerability to Ice-type and Fairy-type attacks and to Status can be a problem.

Clefable is directly threatened by several common threats in Arcanine, Iron Head Corviknight, Mamoswine, Excadrill, Necrozma-Dusk Mane, and Kyurem. It can easily lose momentum, risks being used as set-up bait by several of these Pokemon, and is denied Stealth Rock by Corviknight and Excadrill.
Pairing Clefable with Banettite Toxapex resolves its vulnerability to Arcanine and provides a way to neuter set-up attempts via Prankster Haze. Latiasite Toxapex is an alternative that foregoes this last perk but solidly counters Excadrill and Mamoswine. In return, Clefable faces threats to Toxapex in Electric-Type attackers and Hydreigon. Bulk Up Corviknight appreciates Clefable checking Zekrom while providing Heal Bell support; in return, Corviknight checks Excadrill and Necrozma Dusk Mane. The core is still threatened by Altarianite Arcanine as well as Kyurem. Manectite Mew enjoys cleric support and Hydreigon being countered, and covers several threatening physical attackers like Arcanine, Mamoswine, Necrozma-DM, Terrakion, and Excadrill. Despite its strengths, this core is vulnerable to Kyurem. Sablenite Gastrodon is a more niche option that checks some key threats to Clefable in Arcanine and Excadrill.
As for offensive partners, Pinsirite Arcanine has a good match-up versus Altarianite Arcanine, Mamoswine, Excadrill, and Necrozma-Dusk Mane, and it capitalizes on Clefable countering Electric types and bulky Water types.

Acquiring Mold Breaker upon Mega Evolving allows it to set Stealth Rock reliably as well as maintain them versus several common defoggers, such as Sablenite Mandibuzz and Corviknight. Manectite Mew. I think this is a better mention because defog Corviknight is running Iron Head more often for this exact matchup Magic Guard before Mega Evolving and access to Heal Bell alleviate the burden that Status places on balance staples including status targeting itself. As such, Clefable is one of the best Toxapex switch-ins in the metagame. offers fantastic support to fellow defensive Pokemon like Manectite Mew and Lunala who are susceptible to being worn down by Toxic. I feel it is better to mention this aspect of Clefable's support rather than switching into Toxapex because other than setting rocks, Clefable can't accomplish anything else and just loses to Pex With a good defensive typing in Fairy/Dragon post Mega Evolution, Clefable can put its decent defensive stats to good use against several common threats. Namely, the above set aims to reliably counter Hydreigon whilst still checking Lopunnite Zeraora and Zekrom. Depending on its team needs, Clefable can actually run full investment in Defense, to properly counter the aforementioned Electric types, or invest more in SpDef, which will grant it more solidity as a counter to Hydreigon, Rotom formes I would just remove the Rotoms mention because of how NP exploits Clef so hard, Dragapult, and Keldeo. When using Clefable, sometimes it can be wise to withhold from Mega Evolving immediately, particularly when the increased vulnerability to Ice-Type attacks, Fairy-Type attacks, and Status can be a problem.

Clefable is directly threatened by several common threats in Arcanine, Lunala, Gengar, Iron Head Corviknight, Mamoswine, Excadrill, Necrozma-Dusk Mane, and Kyurem. It can easily lose momentum, and it risks being used as set-up bait by several of these Pokemon, and is denied Stealth Rock by Corviknight and Excadrill.

Sablenite Mandibuzz appreciates Clefable checking Zeraora, and Zekrom and Rotom formes and while providing Heal Bell support, and it in return, Mandibuzz counters checks Lunala and Gengar, in return. The core is still threatened by Altarianite Arcanine as well as Ice-Type attackers. Manectite Mew enjoys cleric support and Hydreigon being countered, and covers several threatening physical attackers like Arcanine, Mamoswine, Necrozma-DM, Terrakion, and Excadrill. Despite its strengths, this core is vulnerable to Gengar and Lunala, nonetheless. Sablenite Gastrodon is a more niche option that checks some key threats to Clefable in Arcanine, Mamoswine, I think it's best to leave this mention out because of how lucky Gastrodon has to be to avoid losing to Mamoswine flinches after it switches in Gengar that don't have Energy Ball, and Excadrill.
As for offensive partners, Pinsirite Arcanine has a good match-up versus Altarianite Arcanine, Mamoswine, Excadrill, Necrozma-Dusk Mane, and Gengar, and it capitalizes on Clefable countering Electric types and bulky Water types. Gengar is also recommendable, as it pressures Altarianite Arcanine, Lunala, and Necrozma-Dusk Mane, with Clefable threatening Hydreigon, Mandibuzz, Dragapult, and Zeraora.

Ampharosite Clefable is a good pick for balance teams as it compresses several important roles and performs well as a support Pokemon. Acquiring Mold Breaker upon Mega Evolving allows it to set Stealth Rock reliably as well as maintain them versus several common defoggers, such as Sablenite Mandibuzz and Manectite Mew.(I would just rephrase the last part of sentence to "vs several common defensive mons" as sablenite mandi is not used and manec mew is not really running defog anymore) Magic Guard before Mega Evolving and access to Heal Bell alleviate the burden that Status places on balance staples, including Clefable itself. Namely, the above set aims to reliably counter Blastoisinite Hydreigon and Dragapult. (While not very important, u could mention toxic as the potential 4th move here as a secondary check to sablenite mew but do mention that losing heal bell is a greater loss) When using Clefable, sometimes it can be wise to withhold from Mega Evolving immediately, particularly when the increased vulnerability to Ice-type and Fairy-type attacks and to Status can be a problem.

(Could also mention how Clef cannot directly switch in to Glalitite/Gardevoirite Hydreigon)
In return, Clefable faces threats to Toxapex in Electric-Type attackers Zekrom and Blastoisinite Hydreigon.(The meta rn only has 3 decent electric types-zekrom/rotom/toxtricity and clef only counters one of them reliably so im not sure if u wanna include electric type attackers so personally i would just change it to zekrom) Bulk Up Corviknight appreciates Clefable checking Zekrom while providing Heal Bell support; in return, Corviknight checks Excadrill and Necrozma Dusk Mane. The core is still threatened by Altarianite Arcanine, Altarianite Toxtricity as well as Kyurem. Manectite Mew enjoys cleric support and Blastoisinite Hydreigon being countered, and covers several threatening physical attackers like Arcanine, Mamoswine, Necrozma-DM, Terrakion, and Excadrill. (U could also club in Hydreigon here to form a good 3 mon core whch also checks sablenite mew and Chandelure which the other two mon struggle with) Despite its strengths, this core is vulnerable to Kyurem, and Gardevoirite or Glalitite Hydreigon. Sablenite Gastrodon is a more niche option that checks some key threats to Clefable in Arcanine and Excadrill.
As for offensive partners, Pinsirite Arcanine has a good match-up versus Altarianite Arcanine, Mamoswine, Excadrill, and Necrozma-Dusk Mane, and it capitalizes on Clefable countering Electric types Zekrom and bulky Water types.
