Ok, first of all this is technically not a VGC team. It is for a local doubles tournament with VGC like rules, with one exception: Sleep clause.
Second: please, i know grammar is a thing here, but i am from south america and I am doing my best.
Third:I am a noob. I admit it, but i am here to learn. So if some of my choices don't make much sense, please tell me and i will do my best to modify the team. This is also my first RMT so i hope i am doing it right.
Now down to bussines, at first I tried my best to make a rain team... but quite frankly? i didn't like it. Depending too much on a condition to boost your whole team? good, if not for the fact that it can be countered, or replaced by other conditions that work directly against you. So decided that the best way to go was to make a team that works independent of weather or trick room but that can survive it or counter it (basically a Goodstuff team).
Now the whole idea that lead me to create this team came from one of muffinhead's awesome videos on VGC (seriously man, thanks a lot, you rock) so some of the choices come from his sugestions.
- I wanted to use Scizor, i think it is a decent pokemon with a very good offense that resists a lot. His fire weakness is a problem however. So there you go, i know "i like it" doesn't go that far as a reason for team building, but i chose it.
- Then i saw muffinhead's video... he at some point mentions that scizor pairs well with Rotom-W, i had to try it (long story short, turns out they do). They cover much of each others weakness, However even with HP ice rotom has some problems with the likes of Zapdos and himontop, and in the odd chance a bulky ghost type apears i am in trouble.
- I also wanted a fast Fake Out, with an option to make as much damage before being crushed. At first hitmontop came to mind and it probably is the best choice, but i noticed that the fastest fakeout is weavile. Also i chose weavile because it can do some severe damage to Zapdos, ghost types, and dragons. He is extremly frail, but manages to punch one or 2 holes on the enemy before dying. With the right partner it is also very useful against many common trick roomers. Now I know he is very frail but i rarely take weavile out from the lead, he usually gets the job done so what changes is the partner.
- I started by adding a DW dragonite because of his fire and fight resistance, his bulkyness, and versatile move pool. The choice between physical and special was hard but i went with physical because of extreme speed. I might have sacrificed some very good options but it works well, in my experience priority is never bad.
- The fifth and sixth slot where troublesome, i wanted to have a weather check, so in the fifth i tried these guys at various points because of cloud9:
They don't work... i find they end up being as much a dead weight as a badly handled weather pokemon. however disable on golduck did help me a couple of times, just because people didn't see it coming. (it actually destroyed a the only pokemon with a choice item i have seen so far)
In the sixth i had these spre users to counter trickroom (following an idea from muffinhead that putting thrickroomers to sleep works well)
Breloom dies incredibly fast if he fails to stop trickroom, and if he manages to stop it then dies more slowly, a one trick pony in the end. Aamoongus, while not that bad, gave me the idea that maybe a pokemon that works well in trickroom and that can posibly reverse it would be more useful.
- In the end the fifth and sixth slot were filled by Mienshao as a posible replacement for weavile in drought (and because he learns rock slide) and porygon 2 because of how bulky he is, and the posibility to reverse trick room. They are not set in stone and can be changed acording to sugestions.
The team so far:
Weavile @ Focus sash
Ability: Pressure
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Attack / 252 Speed
Nature: Jolly
- Fake Out
- Night Slash
- Ice Punch
- Protect
I know what i said about priority, but in weavile's case he does not have that much time on the field before he is gone, he is fast enough to overcome most of his adversaries, and if I forsee a prority hit i instantly protect.
Scizor @ Occa Berry
Ability: Technician
EVs: 252 Hp/ 252 Attack / 4 Speed
Nature: Adamant
- Bullet Punch
- Bug Bite
- Super power/Feint?
- Protect
I have some doubts with scizor, he is very good, but speed can be an issue. Seeing how fast he can die, sacrificing Evs on HP is a no no as he would not survive a single fire attack. The choice between Super power and feint is hard as well, I have tried both and while super power is excelent for getting rid of some threats, feint is a useful out of nowhere kill when you just know the oponent will protect the last bit of Hp his poke has.
Rotom - W @ Sitrus Berry?
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 252 HP / 252 SP Attack / 4 Sp Def
Nature: Modest
- Hydro Pump
- Thunderbolt
- Hidden Power (Ice)
- Protect
His natural bulk make him very useful in many circumstances, he also covers the Fire weakness that 2 of my pokes have, what bothers me is the accuracy of Hydro pump. I gave him HP Ice to give him a hope against zapdos, also because i know Weavile will die and a late match dragon can mess things up.
Dragonite @ Yache Berry
Ability: Multiscale
EVs: 252 Hp/ 252 Attack / 4 Speed
Nature: Adamant
- Extreme Speed
- Dragon Claw
- Fire Punch
- Protect
Weaviles main partner, Fire punch deals with steel types, dragon claw is the main stab attack and it finishes dragons that survive. Multiscale allows for those dragons not to finish him before he can hit. (Credit goes to Muffinhead again, as i saw this set for dnite in one of his vids)
Mienshao? @ Life orb?
Ability: Inner focus
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Attack / 252 Speed
Nature: Jolly
- Fake Out
- Hi Jump Kick
- Rock Slide
- Wide Guard
Posible replacement for weavile under sun, or if the oponent is heavy on fire pokemon, or others that might suffer because of rock slide. Tried pairing it with weavile. 2 frail pokemons spells disaster. I am not sure about this one... might change him
Porygon 2? @ Eviolite
Ability: Trace
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Defense / 4 Sp Defense
Nature: Bold
- Psychic
- Tri Attack
- Trick room/Recover
- Protect
In case of Trick room, break the glass. Reversing trick room is a good choice, stops those teams that are over confident on it, recover is good too, in case i want to take advantage of my oponent's trick room. Still not sure about this one...
This is it, rip it appart so i can put it back together. Thanks for your time.
