An Ode to a Blue Day-B/W-OU-Rain dance team

An Ode to a Blue Day

This is my ode to the rain. Rain is such an interesting force in nature. The team is centered around this force. Also, things that love being in the rain. A good rain is not complete without a good thunder, so first off my first member to my rainy day team is Thundurus-T. Thundurus-T is by far a better balanced Pokemon. It lost priority and speed. The two things it was able to abuse in its Thundurus-I form. This Pokemon is great for two reasons on this team. One it gives a great lead and finishing Pokemon. Two as a choice scarfed user offers a lot of power and speed. I believe this Pokemon a great addition to the OU. Another Pokemon I would like to welcome to the OU, is Tornadus-T. Tornadus-T unlike its brother gained a lot of power. In a beautiful storm the winds come. Tornadus-T truly represents this. As I was saying, it gained a lot more power in its transformation. Though it lost it raw power it gained speed and the ability regenerator. This allows it to use life orb to make up for the loss its power and abuse regenerator to heal after a bad stealth rocks switch in or after a *few life orb boosted attacks. This Pokemon I hope stays in the OU. Politoeds often follow the storms to absorb the rain. This Pokemon has been graced with drizzle. This allows Politoed to setup rain upon entering the battle. This helps buff my team and provide them protection. Politoed does not really help except for that. Breloom is another Pokemon that has gained power. Though it may seem like a weak pókemon it has it uses. First, it has access to spore. Spore equals setup time. Secondly, it gained technician. Scizor has already shown that technician is a great ability. It's typing comes at a great time in the meta. Grass and fighting offer great stabs that are boosted by its ability. Mach punch is a priority stab. Bullet seed offer great wall breaking power against the ever popular bulky water types and opposing rain teams. Though it is weak to hurricane so you must to careful using it against other rain teams. Like last two Pokemon Forrethorns love the rain. They often become stronger in the rain. This Forrethorn offers two things to the team. Hazard from my storm. Also, the walling ability of this Pokemon is amazing. Stealth rocks is going to be an important move in the upcoming new meta. This Pokemon does become stronger in the rain. It's able to take one fire type attack and switch out safely. The last Pokemon is a Pokemon that also loves a good storm. They often consume ships during a storm. With a giant spin they flip the ship. Rapid spin is so key for my defensive core. Tentacruel makes such a great rapid spinner. I like Starmie, but it's not bulky enough for me. Tentacruel offers bulk and a good check to certain Pokemon. That sums up my team. Please rate. Also, sorry for the lack of three pictures. They did not load correctly.

Thundurus-T (M) @ Choice scarf
Trait: Volt Absorb
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SAtk / 252 Spd
Timid Nature (+Spd, -Atk)
- Volt Switch
- Focus Blast
- Thunder
- Hidden Power [Ice]

This Pokemon was made pretty balanced. It gained a lot of power, but it's slower and it's not as bulky. Prankster was what made thundurus such a beast, but things are still good for Thundurus-t. His sporting 145 special attack and still decent speed makes it the prefect choiced Pokemon. I have picked choice scarf. It's to make sure I can out speed Tornadus-t. It also allows me to check anything with a powerful move. It's stabs are deadly. Volt switch allows for a powerful stab then switch. Thunder's power will dent any Pokemon that doesn't resist or immune to it. Focus blast and hidden power ice is for coverage against walls. I also like this Pokemon for every early in a match and then in late game. Volt switch is a great ability. It allows it to trap volt switchers and a timely switch into a electric attack heals it some.

Tornadus-T (M) @ Life Orb
Trait: Regenerator
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SAtk / 252 Spd
Naive Nature (+Spd, -SDef)
- U-turn
- Superpower
- Hidden Power [Grass]
- Hurricane

Sadly, I am not sure of the future of this monster. It has been blessed with a great ability and it's speed stat is really good. It's a great Pokemon for hitting early and mid game. U-turn is for free switches and gaining advantage. Superpower is more welcomed then focus blast because this attack isn't likely to miss. Hidden power grass is to hit predicted switches into jellicent or mamoswine. I am able to weaken these foes. Hurricane is its amazing stab move. The last thing is life orb is for the free regenerator abuse. Life orb gives it the needed power it lost and regenerator allows it to recover.

Politoed (M) @ Leftovers
Trait: Drizzle
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 SAtk
Bold Nature (+Def, -Atk)
- Scald
- Toxic
- Focus Blast
- Protect

I am going to say there isn't much to say about this Pokemon. It's a pretty straight forward defensive set. This soul's job is to get up the rain and go straight back into its ball. It's a shy Pokemon you see. When it wants to fight it can somewhat. Scald gives it a good stab move that can result in burn. Toxic let's it poison other walls. Focus blast lets me check certain walls better. Protect lets me stall. Like I said its a pretty standard set.

Breloom (F) @ expert belt
Trait: Technician
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spd
Adamant Nature (+Atk, -SAtk)
- Mach Punch
- Bullet seed
- Spore
- Swords dance

Breloom is going to be a great Pokemon. Has priority boosted stabs. On this team the rain protects it from fire. Spore allows it to setup sword dances. Then it's stabs make it great for a wall breaker. Gliscor is its mortal foe. Toxic orb gliscor gets around breloom, but thundurus-t checks him well. Mach punch is it's main stab. this Pokemon loves its buddy forrethorn. It can setup rocks and spikes which greatly improve this guys sweeping abilities. Spore setup is powerful. Mach punch can check certain threats well. Swords dance is great for after spore. It will break any *wall pretty well.

Ferrothorn (M) @ Sitrus Berry
Trait: Iron Barbs
EVs: 252 HP / 80 Def / 176 SDef
Sassy Nature (+SDef, -Spd)
- Stealth Rock
- Spikes
- Power Whip
- Protect

This Pokemon is such a great Pokemon to base your defense on. Its entry hazard setter and great typing. This is a pretty standard ferrothorn. Entry hazard setter is important for this team. It allows good counters to other rain teams. It also is nice knowing every time my opponent's Pokemon come in they are damage. Rocks are undoubtedly the best entry hazard. Allows you to punish other rain teams that do not have a rapid spinner. Spikes is just good. Power whip lets it switch into jellicent and setup and stab. Protect is for scouting and stalling.

images

Tentacruel (M) @ Black Sludge
Trait: Rain Dish
EVs: 252 HP / 60 Def / 196 SDef
Bold Nature (+Def, -Atk)
- Hidden Power [Electric]
- Surf
- Rapid Spin
- Protect

The last Pokemon and probably one of the most important pokemon on my team, Tentacruel. Tentacruel is my rapid spinner. I picked this Pokemon over Starmie for one reason. The bulk of Tentacruel is that reason. Starmie is fast and is good at what it does, but I prefer the bulk and shielding ability of Tentacruel. Hidden power electric lets me hit jellicent and covers certain other threats. Surf is its stab move. Hydro pump is not worth it. Missing an attack is something tentacruel does not like doing. Scald is not strong enough. Surf is prefect. Rapid spin is for clearing entry hazards. Protect is for scouting and stalling. ( I have to edit this guy's defenses some. This was a test set.)

Alright, the moment I see Jellicent @ choice specs I know this team can't be serious. A better explanation and/or damage calcs for jellicent hitting common threats would be useful...

You should consider adding ev's and sprites because this rmt looks like a wall of text...
Ok, on to the rate, three choiced pokemon can't be real so i propose a defensive set for Politoed:
Politoed@leftovers
Trait:drizzl
Bold nature
-252hp-252 def-4spd
-scald
-toxic
-perish song
-protect

As a weather lead, politoed should be bulky to outlast the other weather starters. Scald and toxic are both good to cripple things, perish song is THE greatest invention by gamefreak allowing setup sweepers be forced to switch out. Protect is just for racking up toxic/burn damage, scout what move a choiced poke would lock into etc.

Choice specs jellicient must be a joke, jellicient is such a great defensive poke and youuse it for offense???? I'm too lazy to post it hereso go check out the UTILITY COUNTER set in the strategy dex. If you really need a reliaable sweeper or wallbreaker go easer for jolteon, dragoniteor gyarados, but you would need rapid spin support for the utmost two.
I woul suggest another set for raikou as this set wouldn't do as well in the sun as you expect, if ninetales sets up sun and doesn't switch in a grass type but heatran? I also remember that if raikou jas weather ball and aura sphere it can only have rash nature or something like that? I don't even care. Anyways your lacking a boosting sweeper so offensive cm raikou could be good.
Raikou@life orb
Trait:pressure
Timid nature
-252 spa-4spd-252 spe
-calm mind
-thunderbolt
-hp ice
-shadow ball

Hey, Penguinmaster35. Nice team.

Your team looks weak to Stealth Rock, as Tornadus loses 25% of its health each time it needs to switch in. Your team also looks really weak to Rotom-W, who can spam Hydro Pumps and Volt Switches to take out Jellicent, Politoed, Raikou, Terrakion and Tornadus. I also see a lack of balance between your physical and special Pokemon, as you have only one physical Pokemon compared to 5 special Pokemon. To help deal with Breloom, I would recommend you opt for a Bulk Up Breloom (see set below) instead of Raikou. Raikou plays a similar role to Rotom-W, but the Washing Machine is a better abuser as Rain benefits both its STABs, and it is also bulkier. Bulk Up Breloom helps you deal with Rotom-W and Scizor, as they can't touch you when you get a couple of boosts. Poison Heal recovery is also very handy, and being poisoned means it won't be affected by status moves. Bulk Up boosts your Attack and Defense, giving you both an advantage on the offense and defense. Spore puts a Pokemon to sleep for the whole match, lest it stays in when you're setting up. Drain Punch lets you heal health back, while dealing damage, and Seed Bomb is a reliable STAB that helps deal with Water-types like Quagsire and Gastrodon.

Now, at this point, Stealth Rock is still a problem. While Jellicent isn't bad by any means, it needs too much support to work properly, so I would recommend a Standard Starmie instead. Starmie makes your team faster and more powerful, thanks to its great coverage. It also provides invaluable Rapid Spin support for your teammates, which helps Tornadus sweep. Hydro Pump gets boosted by Rain, and deals a lot of damage to anything that doesn't resist the move. Ice Beam lets it revenge-kill opposing Tornadus, while Thunder, who gets perfect accuracy in Rain, is useful to deal with opposing Water-types like Politoed and Gyarados. Leftovers is for recovery and Natural Cure heals status ailments upon switching out. Finally, I'd go with a Choice Specs Tornadus instead of your current Expert Belt variant. Specs gives Hurricane a tremendous boost, and pretty much 2HKOs or OHKOs any Pokemon in the game, apart from the pink blobs and some Specially Defensive variants of Jirachi. The attacks should be Hurricane, Focus Blast, U-Turn and Rain Dance. Focus Blast, boosted by the Specs, helps deal with Ferrothorn, and U-Turn is useful for scouting. Rain Dance can be used thanks to Prankster, and after using it, you can switch out. Cool team, and good luck!

Timid Nature | 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe

I know I will add in the pictures when I can which will be soon. My computer is acting weird right now. Thanks for the suggestions. When I was building this team, Starmie was something I was considering. It's a solid Pokemon with all the utility it brings. At least, in times I have used it. Breloom hmmm..that's an interesting choice. Testing will begin with it though. I can see what use it would be.

First of all, for all you naysayers, choice specs jellicent is legit. Try taking a 150 power STAB rain boosted water move to the face with no immunity and see how you feel afterwards. Pretty painful, right? It is also one of the best jellicent sets vs starmie due to the fact that it blocks the spin and 1hkos with a specs shadow ball.

Like many other people before me have said, this RMT needs sprites to make it more appealing. If you are having trouble finding any, I will direct you to my one-stop shop for sprites: http://www.pokemonelite2000.com/sprites.html

To the actual team, I believe raikou should use substitute over shadow ball and leftovers over life orb. I have tested the sub/cm set extensively in rain and know how awesome it is. Here is the set:

243.gif

Raikou
Timid | 128 HP, 128 Sp. Atk, 252 Speed | Leftovers
~Substitute
~Calm Mind
~Thunder
~Hidden Power Ice

This is a sub/cm set with its STAB modified for use in the rain. Substitute protects raikou from status and renders him nigh impenetrable on the special side after a few calm minds. Thunder is for STAB, and its high power and phenomenal accuracy in the rain means it will be hitting very hard with a few calm mind boosts. Hidden power ice gets coverage on many ground and dragon types.

This set does best with coverage from fighting types such as the suggested breloom to deal with ferrothorn and blissey / chansey, this set's primary walls. This set opts for a slower sweep in general, but it is a sweep nonetheless, and it will come eventually if you play him right. If you are worried about thunder's accuracy, I would suggest putting rain dance on rotom as well. Maybe replace will-o-wisp or pain split with it and make it a more offensive set? I would recommend changing the tornadus set to a life orb set with grass knot or hidden power ice over taunt. Hidden Power Ice is great for taking out other genies as well as anything that flies. Grass Knot is great for taking out bulky waters, specifically gastrodon, jellicent, and quagsire. Tornadus usually doesn't find an opportunity to use taunt due to the fact that it's too busy thrashing people with STAB hurricane. The life orb will also boost hammer arm as well. The cool thing about this set is if you make the transition to Black 2 / White 2 with this team, you can use tornadus-t with regenerator, meaning you can heal off some of the life orb damage. You also don't have to pump 252 evs into speed if you don't want to due to its speed being so monstrous. (Tornadus-t that is. Regular tornadus should never walk out the door with less than 252 speed evs.)

Hope this helps, and good luck with the team!

Currently, I'm just testing out everyone's suggestions. That's why I picked jellicent though. I did have a defensive jellicent. After I did some reading I thought about testing it out. I did realize my Politoed and jellicent really had no synergy with each other, so I was already switching my Politoed to a more defensive set. The raw power of Jellicent's water spout in theory and in use is nice. I will say I think that set works better in double battles with support from Vaporeon. I do like breloom currently. Its not a bad Pokemon. Its going to stay on the team. That Raikou looks nice, and that would give me back volt absorb to also help off set the life orb damage and with the support of leftovers bam you can't lose. I have been looking into Tornadus-T, but I haven't found make information other then he gets regenerator.

Really, I was trying to look up the base stats for Tornadus-T. By chance King of Blades do you know what the base stats are? Also, any news on Keldeo or Meloetta release? Keldeo is greatly wanted it will probably take tornadus's spot thus helping my more offensive jellicent, wouldn't you say?

Anyways, these are the changes I have made.

Rotom-w@choice scarf
Timid levitate
236hp, 252 spd, 22 spA
Volt switch
Hydro pump
Hidden power-ice
Trick

The reason for the change in set was simple. This Rotom is faster. Making it the best lead Pokemon I have tested. Volt switching into politoed is amazing especially if they are leading with a weather setter. Plus this set can be nice against setup sweepers. The other two moves don't really need explaining.

Politoed was changed to the more defensive set.

Tornadus was also changed to the above mentioned set.

Edited my team some. I did some testing on PO today and dang they are good. I am working on building my exact team for b/w2. Look above the updated team.

I would recommend that you use choice scarf keldeo. Your team takes a pounding from Tornadus T. Thundurus would get eaten up by Stealth Rocks and a choice scarfer and isn't nearly as flexible as Scarf Landorus because he takes normal damage from Rocks, which everyone is using to help take out the new Trio forms. Other than that I have to say I like teams like this because if you play them right you can win simply. Scarf Keldeo is much better at cleaning up in my opinion than scarf Thundurus T, who can be walled by other Thundurus Ts. I would think that Scarf Thundurus T would give the opposing one a chance to set up as long as they aren't fooled of course.

The main problem other than giving Keldeo Scarf and Thundurus any other item I see is Breloom.

I understand if that set is working for you, but really why not go with straight up Offense with rocks up Adamant Breloom has great chances of OHKOing many Pokemon that resist mach punch at +2 + Life Orb

It's the best Breloom set right now in my opinion.

Breloom (M) @ Life Orb
Trait: Technician
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spd
Jolly or Adamant Nature (+Spd, -SAtk)
- Spore
- Bullet Seed
- Mach Punch
- Swords Dance

Right now I'd say the meta is pretty unbalanced and that you can use a team like this very well or poorly. Good Luck.

This is a small change i dont really think its needed but i think you should change Hp dark on Keldeo to Hp Ghost because of perfect coverage but i still think having Hp dark is good to.
