Anti-Leadin' (OU) (First RMT)

I'm not a great team builder, but I've managed to create a team that has brought some great success on Shoddy. It can check many OU Pokémon early on, and allows for the main sweeper to destroy the rest of the opponent's team. However, this team has a severe problem with Scizor, and only Bronzong can set it to sleep to stop it. I need some constructive criticism on how to make this team better before I create this team on Platinum!

Changes will be in BOLD.

Weavile: Anti-Lead

Item: Focus Sash
EV's: 4HP/252 SPD/ 252 ATK
Nature: Hasty

~Fake Out
~Counter
~Taunt
~Night Slash

Weavile is a fantastic anti-lead. It puts the hurt on the opponents that do not expect it to be running this set, and stops early attempts of the opponent boosting their stats or setting up Stealth Rock. First off, Fake Out disables the effects of Focus Sashes. Weavile can then pick off the opponent easily if it has frail defenses. Counter works very well with Weavile's poor DEF stat, so it can basically destroy anything that uses a physical attack. Taunt furthers Counter's ability and stops status, Stealth Rock etc. from being set up early. Weavile is personally my favorite Pokémon on this team and presents the most surprise to its opponent.

Vaporeon: Support
Item: Leftovers
EV’s: 188HP/254 DEF/68 SPD
Nature: Bold

~Surf
~Ice Beam
~Wish
~Protect

Vaporeon fits into this team nicely, and works very well with the rest of the team. Vaporeon’s main purpose in this team is to support the other members of the team, especially Bronzong. Vaporeon’s moveset also allows it to recover itself, and also lets it stall and scout. Surf is an obvious move, as it takes advantage of Vaporeon’s good Spc. Atk. and STAB boost. Ice Beam is very useful for taking down Dragons, and other Pokémon that are extremely vulnerable to it. Wish is an excellent support move that not only allows Vaporeon to recover, but also to replenish the other Pokémon’s HP on the team. Protect is to scout out enemy attacks and also stall for a Wish to finally recover Vaporeon. Wish also provides Bronzong recovery, which it would normally not have. Not only does Wish provide recovery for one of the tanks on the team, but it also replenishes Salamence’s HP, which is worn down through Sandstorm, Stealth Rock, and Life Orb damage. Vaporeon, overall, is a great support Pokémon for this team.

Rotom H: Revenge Killer

Item: Choice Scarf
EV's 252 SPC ATK/224SPD/HP34
Nature: Modest

~Overheat
~Thunderbolt
~Shadow Ball
~Trick

---Testing---

Salamence: Main Sweeper

Item: Life Orb
EV’s: 232 ATK/ 254 SPD/ 24 SPC ATK
Nature: Naive

~Dragon Dance
~Outrage
~Earthquake
~Fire Blast

Salamence is an incredibly threatening Pokémon now that it has Outrage in its arsenal.
With a single DD, Salamence can threaten to sweep an entire team, and with a second DD, you’re going to expect major devastation if the opponent has no priority moves. Dragon Dance allows Salamence to raise its already ridiculous Atk. even higher, and also gives Salamence the speed boost it requires to smash anything that was faster then it. Outrage is a fearsome move that can literally destroy anything when it has the chance, even without a DD. Earthquake is for grounded Steel types like Heatran and Metagross. Fire Blast takes care of Forretress and levitating Steel types such as Skarmory and Bronzong. Salamence works great with Bronzong. After Bronzong puts something to sleep, Salamence can easily switch in, get a DD if it has to, and begin its reign of terror. Even though Salamence takes an insane amount of damage from Life Orb, Stealth Rock, and Sandstorm, support from Vaporeon can usually remedy this predicament Salamence may face. Salamence is really the only Pokémon on this team that can actually inflict major damage on the opponent. Given time through DDs, Salamence can wreck major havoc on any team it may face.

Porygon2: Mixed Tank 1

Item: Leftovers
EV’s: 254HP/216 DEF/40 SPD
Nature: Bold

~Thunder Wave
~Thunderbolt
~Ice Beam
~Recover

Porygon2 seems like an odd choice for a tank, but if you see its ability to counter Salamence and Gyarados, you’ll realize its potential. Porygon2 is a good tank, not a fantastic one, but it gets its job done. Thunder Wave allows Porygon2 to cripple the opponent’s speed. The Thunderbolt + Icebeam combination gives Porygon2 the optimum coverage it needs to counter most Pokemon it may face. Recover allows Porygon2 to recover and also allows it to stall against more bulky enemies. Porygon2 makes good use of Trace, allowing it to come on things like Dugtrio and trap them or trap Steels, especially Magnezone (Although Porygon2 can only stall against it). Porygon2 is a very useful tank to this team that gets the job done.

Bronzong: Mixed Tank 2

Item: Leftovers
EV’s: 252HP/86 ATK/80 DEF/92 SPC DEF
Nature: Sassy

~Stealth Rock
~Hypnosis
~Gyro Ball
~Earthquake

Bronzong is an excellent tank that sponges up attacks from both sides of the spectrum with ease. With its excellent typing and ability, Bronzong only has one weakness, a resistance to Stealth Rock, and an immunity to Toxic Spikes and Spikes. The only problem Bronzong really has is recovery. This is easily remedied by Vaporeon’s support, and allows Bronzong to disrupt the opponent’s team for quite a while. Stealth Rock sets up the horrid entry hazard that will strip a good amount of HP off anything that is weak to Rock. Hypnosis is a great disruptive move that can stop counters or sweepers from attacking and allows Salamence to usually get in safely and start to boost its stats. Gyro Ball works with Bronzong’s pathetic Speed and allows it to destroy Weavile and do a good amount of damage to Tyranitar. Earthquake is for Steels that resist Gyro Ball, such as Heatran and Metagross. Earthquake can do a good amount of damage to them if they attempt to come in to wall Bronzong. Bronzong is a great mixed tank that works great with the rest of the team.

Dugtrio:
STAB earthquake is stronger than supereffective aerial ace
heracross is the only exception and its rarely seen

I'd say keep Aerial Ace. There's not really anything more useful on Dugtrio. You'll still be mainly using the first 3 moves anyway, so Aerial Ace can just be some backup against Heracross, Breloom, and...Parasect.

Do you suggest keeping the Scarf? I'll lose out on killing Jolteon first, but do you think adding a Choice Band on there would be better?

The only thing that doesn't seem to do well on this team is Dugtrio. Dugtrio allows A LOT of set up sweepers to come and and ruin your team. It also is not taking out things that will allow other sweepers to take advantage of the lack of Blissey/Tyranitar/whatever, and it will be hard pressed to take out steels for Salamence sweeps. Metagross is not KO'd easily, most Jirachi are Scarfed, Magnezone is the only exception. Overall, Dugtrio isn't doing much for you.

So I recommend another Scarf sweeper/revenge killer over Dugtrio, one that could counter Scizor and help a bit with Zapdos, who seems like it would give your team problems. Try out this Rotom:

Rotom-h @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 252 Special Att/184 Speed/72 HP
Timid nature
-Overheat
-Thunderbolt
-Shadow Ball
-Trick

Max special attack, speed reaching 418 to outrun max speed Scarftran, and rest in HP. It can switch in nicely into Scizor and help with Zapdos, however do not let it take to many hits because of the lack of defensive investment. It can also ruin set up (on things like Dragon Dance Tyranitar) and help vs. stall teams, Tricking a Scarf onto things like Blissey. Overall a better revenge killer to Scizor/Lucario/steels in general/Heracross. Also comes with the added benefit of an immunity to Explosion, something I feel is completely necessary in today's hyperoffensive metagame.

You can also drop the speed down to 396 (224 speed EVs, neutral nature) because you have Scarftran well covered, and base 130 speed pokemon are a good thing to outrun. You can make it more defensive if you want, or go with a Modest nature to smack things harder.

For Bronzong, Hypnosis is kind of iffy in Platinum due to the low accuracy, but try out Explosion to clear out problem pokemon and grant a free sweeper switch, or Light Screen to help set up a Salamence sweep.

Good luck with your team!

Thanks! I will edit the RMT and test that. Rotom was really good on my Sandstorm Team, and I love that Trick option, it will allow Salamence to switch in more. I will stick with Hypnosis for now, but I may change it to Explosion later.

Bump. Any other suggestions for this team? It's been working a bit better with the Rotom on it.
