weekly update or whatevz
harumph
so im attempting to download the client for the free trial, but its not working. it downloads really fast up to around 40%, then slows to a crawl and says that i have a firewall up.
im awful with computers, and have no idea how to remedy this problem. my windows firewall is turned off.
Go again into the windows secury thing and make sure stuff is turned off, if you have other firewalls or antiviruses, turn them off temporarily (don't worry, you won't get a virus!). If that doesn't work, try fooling around with different settings, you can always download the actual client from other websites (try maybe filefront or sumtin), as the only thing that matters when you make a trial is the actual account. Other than that, I'm not too sure, I had that problem the first time I downloaded wow, so restart, make sure you have admin privileges on your comp (which may sound silly but can sometimes be the cause!) and just keep fooling around. Sometimes the downloading servers may also have issues so just leave it running or even just download it some other time. Right now isn't a great downloading time anyways since they just released a new patch so mass downloads + other stuff have made the downloads a bit sketchy. I recommend just leaving it on for a while - for example I was getting the new patch yesterday and it was terribly slow and seemingly stuck at around <1% for a while but then it just shot up, so it's a bit rollercoastery right now.
tl;dr version: let it download, restart, doublecheck internet settings, or just try it again in a few days or so when download servers are a bit more stable.
So I tried to play WoW and i played for a week or so got to about level 20. Then I deleted it off my computer and swore never to play it again. This game is an addiction. I guess it would be cool if you had enough friends who were on it and nothing better to do. Honestly I just never got the point of this game. You just kill animals and buy stuff then that stuff wears out and you buy more stuff.
What is so good about this game that it makes it worth the time you have to put into it?
You should try group play, it might be weird to keep grouping up with random people but for the most part it's really entertaining. I see what you're saying about it seeming repetitive, but really under the surface there's soooo much more to it - even while leveling. Working on professions is always fun, there's pvp, there's instances/dungeons. Blizzard also just recently took away some of the monotony of leveling by making it easier from 20-60 with less required for each level and quests from 30-60 giving more exp in general. Blizzard is really making strides to make it less painful for people like you (which is a totally fine way of looking at leveling). As I was also saying, there is a lot more under the surface, exploring new areas for the first time can be really fun, and just doing instances for many different reasons is a ton of fun too. It's definitely a grouping game, and while soloing is perfectly acceptable, to get the most out of the game you really just have to either get some buddies from irl to play with you, or just meet cool people in the game that you can party with, and overcome those obstacles with. You don't want to forget the endgame either, Blizzard really put a lot of effort into it (and while it may not always be balanced) and it's almost like the game really starts when you hit max level - you've got arenas (which is more sophisticated PvP), raiding, and just much much more. Touching on the addiction part, I can see where you're coming from. It really varies from person to person, and as for myself, I've been regulating myself pretty well recently but I've felt slight addiction and all you've gotta do really is just take a step back and deal with it.
Sorry for the tl;dr - I can be quite verbose when it comes to this stuff xD!
On another note, everyone is still welcome to play with us, we're on Trollbane Horde, guild name is Avalanche and we've got some smogonites (or ex-smogonites) aka me, Glalie, MrE, Synre, and meddle (that should be it, sorry if I forgot anyone!). Just don't be douches and you're welcome to be a part of our happy wow family.
You can pm Noobster/Rhyse (my Shaman and Druid respectively), Akatosh (Glalie) or Meddle. We've got a few more people with invites, but these would probably be your best bets - and hey! just mention you're from smogon.
More personal wow updates: I've been 66 with my Shaman for like a week and a half - been kinda lazy recently with him, letting him sit with rested but I'm almost 67! Been working on my druid for a bit, he's in the low 20s but he's a lot of fun. Right now I'm doubting that I'm gonna main with it since I enjoy my Shaman quite a lot (and I just wanted a change of pace temporarily), but you never know - one char's gonna be for arena and one for raiding. Probably Druid arenaing, since I like feeling overpowered sometimes 8).
