Welcome to Battling 101! If you're seeking a tutor for National Dex OU, you are in the right place. Please read all the rules carefully and fill out every part of the application.

RULES

  • You must be able to access Discord, or whatever your tutor wants as the primary form of communication.
  • You must be willing to use Pokemon Showdown! even if you are being tutored in a cartridge format such as Battle Spot or VGC.
  • You, the tutee, should have at least 15 posts before signing up AND your account's age should be a minimum of at least 1 month old before signing up.
    • This is not a strict requirement meaning you may still be paired without satisfying it, so no matter what, DO NOT spam post elsewhere in the forum. That is an infractable offense and we do not encourage such behavior from potential Tutees.
  • You must have battled competitively for a decent amount in at least ONE of the Smogon tiers or Battle Spot / VGC to sign up. Playing 10 or so matches on the PS! ladder is not substantial enough, ~70 or so is more reasonable. This experience does not need to be for the format you sign-up for; this is just to weed out people who have never played competitively that can improve themselves simply by using resources already available to them without needing a tutor to hold their hand.
  • You, the tutee, are responsible for setting up times with your tutor. When you receive the Smogon notification informing you of the pairing, please take the initiative and post on their VM wall first. Continued scheduling and communication is key to a successful pairing!
  • Use the Tutee Talk forum to complain about your tutor (or praise them if they're doing a good job). These are no longer mandatory, but if your tutor is ridiculously inactive or is a complete jackass, COMPLAIN HERE. Nobody can see your tutee talk posts except for you and the Battling 101 Staff; everything is confidential.
  • Signups older than 4 months or 1 month since last login will be considered inactive. These will be moved to the Inactive Posts thread, and can be returned back to this thread by request.
  • Tutors can and will drop you if sessions go badly, and significant violations may result in a ban from B101. Be active, be enthusiastic, be respectful. Make the best of your time together!

Tell us a little about your experience in competitive Pokemon (min. 3 sentences): I started playing competitively in early XY and spammed Baton Pass on the ladder. I was pretty skilled I guess. I then got more involved with Smogon and started to play in various tournaments like UUPL and later on Snake and SPL. I could use a bit more practice in this tier though, so I'm looking to get help

Tell us a little about your experience in competitive Pokemon (min. 3 sentences):
I was introduced to competitive Pokémon a year ago through "Cobblemon", a Minecraft mod that uses Pokémon Showdown's engine internally to simulate battles inside of the game. I have several top 5 and top 3 placements in various tournaments for the unique server metagames that I played in, including a first place placement in Roanoke Network's "Diamond Premiere League". I started to pick up that I won't continue to get strong from battling in Cobblemon because the skill level of the players is much lower compared to the players in Smogon and in my belief the only way to get strong at something is to get your ass kicked repeatedly. And so I am here. I have been playing NDOU and SSOU for the past couple of weeks, peaking in the 1600's in both formats and am currently participating in the NDOU Summer Seasonal hoping to encounter strong players and learn from them.
Are you able to use Discord?:
Of course, and I am also open to VC or to use any other communication platform.

I got introduced to pokémon showdown in like 2023 by YouTube, from mostly those scripted salt videos haha. Anyways from that year I started mostly playing natdex OU and recently Legend Z-A (quite a fun format). Recently I also peaked 1700, but to this day I still struggle with teambuilding and can't really use any other teams than ones I steal from others or from samples, also a quite bit with decision making when it comes to moves.

Tell us a little about your experience in competitive Pokemon (min. 3 sentences): I got into competitive at 2024 but never quite took it seriously until last year so id consider myself to be quite new to competitive, I do have around 6 months of experience of actually trying to learn. I peaked 1807 but I'm 100% sure I didn't deserve that, I just had insanely good matchups, I basically got there through pure luck. I struggle with teambuilding and I also believe my piloting could use some work.

Tell us a little about your experience in competitive Pokemon (min. 3 sentences): I've been playing competitively on and off for a few years now, mostly via small community tournaments unaffiliated with Smogon. I have won 19 tournaments and have gotten a top-3 placement in 26 tourneys but the average participant skill levels weren't extremely high. I play Natdex OU on Showdown. I'm currently a 1600s player but would love to get better!

Tell us a little about your experience in competitive Pokemon (min. 3 sentences): I started playing in 2021 after watching Freezai videos, and I have played mostly randbats for many years. I also played a little bit of SV OU, hovering around mid ladder, but the Tera mechanic tired me so I stopped. It was in this period that I decided that I wanted to learn how to teambuild, so I played a couple formats of 35Pokes and then started playing Natdex in October of this year.
I peaked early in the 1800s on the ladder with one of my first teams, but then failed to replicate it again with the following ones: most struggled in the 1500-1600s, some made it in the 1700s. I also noticed that I struggle agains high level players: even if I have a good matchup and get an early advantage, I often find myself making many small mistakes that good players are able to exploit and eventually turn the game in their favor.
My goal would be to learn how to make more consistent teams, especially offense which I cannot build at all, and learn how to make better gameplans, so that I avoid losing games that I should be winning.

Tell us a little about your experience in competitive Pokemon (min. 3 sentences):

I've been a long-time Pokémon fan for many years, but I only started getting into competitive Pokémon in the past few months.
Most of my experience comes from online ladder play on Pokémon Showdown, primarily in the NatDex OU format.
I'm currently around the 1400s on the ladder, and while I'm still relatively new to competitive play, I'm highly motivated to improve my fundamentals, matchup knowledge, and decision making.
I'm eager to learn, review games, and continue developing as a competitive player.
