Welcome to Battling 101! If you're seeking a tutor for National Dex OU, you are in the right place. Please read all the rules carefully and fill out every part of the application.

RULES

  • You must be able to access Discord, or whatever your tutor wants as the primary form of communication.
  • You must be willing to use Pokemon Showdown! even if you are being tutored in a cartridge format such as Battle Spot or VGC.
  • You, the tutee, should have at least 15 posts before signing up AND your account's age should be a minimum of at least 1 month old before signing up.
    • This is not a strict requirement meaning you may still be paired without satisfying it, so no matter what, DO NOT spam post elsewhere in the forum. That is an infractable offense and we do not encourage such behavior from potential Tutees.
  • You must have battled competitively for a decent amount in at least ONE of the Smogon tiers or Battle Spot / VGC to sign up. Playing 10 or so matches on the PS! ladder is not substantial enough, ~70 or so is more reasonable. This experience does not need to be for the format you sign-up for; this is just to weed out people who have never played competitively that can improve themselves simply by using resources already available to them without needing a tutor to hold their hand.
  • You, the tutee, are responsible for setting up times with your tutor. When you receive the Smogon notification informing you of the pairing, please take the initiative and post on their VM wall first. Continued scheduling and communication is key to a successful pairing!
  • Use the Tutee Talk forum to complain about your tutor (or praise them if they're doing a good job). These are no longer mandatory, but if your tutor is ridiculously inactive or is a complete jackass, COMPLAIN HERE. Nobody can see your tutee talk posts except for you and the Battling 101 Staff; everything is confidential.
  • Signups older than 4 months or 1 month since last login will be considered inactive. These will be moved to the Inactive Posts thread, and can be returned back to this thread by request.
  • Tutors can and will drop you if sessions go badly, and significant violations may result in a ban from B101. Be active, be enthusiastic, be respectful. Make the best of your time together!

Tell us a little about your experience in competitive Pokemon (min. 3 sentences): I started playing competitively in early XY and spammed Baton Pass on the ladder. I was pretty skilled I guess. I then got more involved with Smogon and started to play in various tournaments like UUPL and later on Snake and SPL. I could use a bit more practice in this tier though, so I'm looking to get help

Tell us a little about your experience in competitive Pokemon (min. 3 sentences): I started competitive pokemon back in mid 2023, playing for a couple of months, then stopping altogether. I reached a pretty mediocre peak of 1500 in national dex and around 1600 in national dex ubers, although my gameplay was scattered across a couple of accounts. Now I'm trying to get back into mons, focusing on substantially improving in my favorite format.
Are you able to use Discord?: Yes! I'm more than happy to vc too.

Tell us a little about your experience in competitive Pokemon (min. 3 sentences): I’m primarily a doubles and draft player, managed derby and played in DCL. I’ve played a few natdex tours, NDPL as a sub, NDBD, and NDWC. I’m currently 2-0 in ndwc as a sub. I really want to step up my gameplay, I often struggle with game planning on preview and positioning endgames. I think unconventional building is my strong suit.

Tell us a little about your: I've been playing competitive for a long ass time but have yet to learn a single thing. Been struggling with building teams and using certain moves like future sight and spikes. I often can begin a game but struggle in the end game causing me to lose games that I should not lose. I onces lost a stall game when I had a mega mawile with future sight shifu so yeah.

Tell us a little about your experience in competitive Pokemon (min. 3 sentences): I started off originally in VGC during around the start of Regulation F, then eventually gave up officially around halfway through Regulation H. I migrated to ND partly through Regulation G, being coached on my building and play by the now banned (which I don't agree on) AK/Red, though I was still peaking around the mid 1400s. I kinda forgot about ND and moved to SV AG where I stayed until I heard the news of the tera suspect through a pokeaim or blunder video and immediately jumped on the train, though I still wasn't that great of a player and wasn't able to reach the suspect requirements. From then on I've been flipping between SV AG and ND slowly growing my skill, though recently my motivation to play mons has been lowering because of my struggles playing. I have the teambuilding aspect down almost entirely and find cooking up new structures really fun, but testing them is where the issue comes in because I feel like I'm misplaying in every game I play in recently and it's eating away at my mental.

Tell us a little about your experience in competitive Pokemon (min. 3 sentences): sI have been playing showdown
I’ve been playing pokemon showdown for quite a while. I started playing since gen 6 approximately, which I would say has given me a solid base in mechanics, not really team building (mainly played random battles). I started playing NDOU about 2-3 weeks ago by now, where I have peaked about 1550 elo (I think). Though it’s been fun to see some progress in ladder, I feel that I am lacking quite a lot, the biggest factor being my 0 sense of teambuilding and still feel I am lacking at decision making in certain situations/scenarios.

As mentioned above, I often find myself unsure how to create a proper team that works for me personally and my decision making being shoddy at certain points during late game of battles. To sum it up I want to improve in both aspects as it would be nice to excel in both aspects, and I’m committed to learning and understanding core principles and playing more games with someone who has more experience than me and has more insight within the tier and certain trends of pokemon used.

Tell us a little about your experience in competitive Pokemon (min. 3 sentences): I've been playing since the mid of Gen 8 NDOU, bad player as of now but I'm here to change it and make a name for myself in the community that is worth remembering. I have always been a fan of pokemon since my childhood and am going to be the very best that no one ever was.

Tell us a little about your experience in competitive Pokemon (min. 3 sentences):
I started out playing Gen 7 PU but then switched over to National Dex OU next gen after dexit became a thing. Been consistently hardstuck on mid ladder with occasional wild tilts that bring me very low (embarrassed to say I am now in the 1100s after reaching 1700s just a couple months ago), I have thousands of matches of experience (recently reset my W/L so it doesn't appear so but I do have screenshots) on ladder but I've failed to improve. Despite my ample ladder time I have not picked up on how to build to defeat cores or even recognize cores in the meta aside from the really obvious common ones (I feel like I probably struggle with how big the meta is). My battling probably needs work too. Therefore, my lack of confidence prevents me from participating in anything other than ladder. I would like to get good enough to participate enough to feel like a member of the community. I am eager to learn and determined to get better but will need assistance doing so.

Tell us a little about your experience in competitive Pokemon (min. 3 sentences):
I started playing competitively around the end of generation 8. I gravitated towards Natdex because I enjoyed using megas and I didn't enjoy the slower SSOU meta. Throughout gen 9 I improved tremendously, even being able to get reqs a couple times and peaking around 1800 on the ladder. I took a long break after getting busy with school and ever since I returned I have been hardstuck 1500 and have recently been tilting as low as the 1300s. I would like to think that I have a decent understanding of the metagame but it is evident that that is not the case. Furthermore, I can tell when I choke an individual battle but I do not have a good sense of the major mistakes that I consistently make in my gameplay.

Tell us a little about your experience in competitive Pokemon (min. 3 sentences): I play NatDex a lot and want to get better. My highest peak on the ladder was 1700 and now I currently now get around the 1400-1550 range. I think my team building could use some work but I may need some battle tips too.
