Welcome to Battling 101! If you're seeking a tutor for SV Monotype, you are in the right place. Please read all the rules carefully and fill out every part of the application.

RULES​

• You must be able to access Discord, or whatever your tutor wants as the primary form of communication.
• You must be willing to use Pokemon Showdown! even if you are being tutored in a cartridge format such as Battle Spot or VGC.
• You, the tutee, should have at least 15 posts before signing up AND your account's age should be a minimum of at least 1 month old before signing up.
  • This is not a strict requirement meaning you may still be paired without satisfying it, so no matter what, DO NOT spam post elsewhere in the forum. That is an infractable offense and we do not encourage such behavior from potential Tutees.
• You must have battled competitively for a decent amount in at least ONE of the Smogon tiers or Battle Spot / VGC to sign up. Playing 10 or so matches on the PS! ladder is not substantial enough, ~70 or so is more reasonable. This experience does not need to be for the format you sign-up for; this is just to weed out people who have never played competitively that can improve themselves simply by using resources already available to them without needing a tutor to hold their hand.
• You, the tutee, are responsible for setting up times with your tutor. When you receive the Smogon notification informing you of the pairing, please take the initiative and post on their VM wall first. Continued scheduling and communication is key to a successful pairing!
• Use the Tutee Talk forum to complain about your tutor (or praise them if they're doing a good job). These are no longer mandatory, but if your tutor is ridiculously inactive or is a complete jackass, COMPLAIN HERE. Nobody can see your tutee talk posts except for you and the Battling 101 Staff; everything is confidential.
• Signups older than 4 months or 1 month since last login will be considered inactive. These will be moved to the Inactive Posts thread, and can be returned back to this thread by request.
• Tutors can and will drop you if sessions go badly, and significant violations may result in a ban from B101. Be active, be enthusiastic, be respectful. Make the best of your time together!

Tell us a little about your experience in competitive Pokemon (min. 3 sentences): I started playing competitively in early XY and spammed Baton Pass on the ladder. I was pretty skilled I guess. I then got more involved with Smogon and started to play in various tournaments like UUPL and later on Snake and SPL. I could use a bit more practice in this tier though, so I'm looking to get help

Tell us a little about your experience in competitive Pokemon (min. 3 sentences): I play a lot of randbats *citation needed, i main tours plaza. started frmo the ground up a year ago off temp,wolfeyvgc, and freezai (for a while i didn't understand why incineroar was so low tiered cuz wolfey was always talkinga bout it). after figuring out that physical geomancy xerneas was not the way to go, i started playing and teambuilding for tp and gained experience in a lot of formats from it. i haven't played too much monotype, but i've dabbled and played in some mono tours.

Tell us a little about your experience in competitive Pokemon (min. 3 sentences): Haven't really been competitive in the Mono scene until this Gen when I joined the community. So far I was drafted in MWP so I'm glad about my progress in a few months/helping in contributing in the community behind the scenes. I'm hoping this will help me be more confident in my building/playing capabilities to further myself in the bigger tours like MPL <3

Info: I’ve been playing mons competitively for about 3 years. Gotten into a bunch of formats, past gens and lower tiers but mono is special to me. Peaked #2 in both gen 8 and 9, so I know the basics of the tier to say the least. Nowadays I often find myself making dumb mistakes and would like someone to help me get to the next level. Would like to try tournaments in the future and really think I’d need to improve before that.

Tell us a little about your experience in competitive Pokemon (min. 3 sentences): I was top 200 worldwide on the in game ranked in multiple seasons on Sword and Shield, but since then hadn't played as much. I mainly play ladders on showdown and managed to get top 30 on monotype, despite that only being because a lot of the experienced players are inactive.

Otherwise I've been playing pokemon over 18 years and know almost everything there is to know about types, pokemon, abilities and moves etc, along with being well versed with many common strategies or VGC practices.

I'd just like to learn a lot more about the format, I've found it to be very enjoyable and I like implementing all sorts of strategies when playing. (I had most success with a very very simple to use fire team....).

Tell us a little about your experience in competitive Pokemon (min. 3 sentences): I started playing Pokémon itself in gen 7 and loved it, in gen 8 I started on Showdown. I played a good bit of gen 8 Ubers and randoms, dabbled a bit in some other metas as well. When gen 9 came around I began to grind randoms for a while so my gamesense is much much better than it used to be, and I also began working on a monotype poison team. The main thing I need to work on now is my teambuilding because I haven’t got much practice in teambuilding metas. Hopefully this helps!!!

I always played for fun and used to keep up with smog tiers and make teams during sword and shield and ultra sun. But when it comes to make a comprehensive team i still need to learn more and monotype being one of my favourites i always wanted to learn how to build teams with type coverage ,strategies and stuff. Also i have not played much since scarlet and violet and i need some help with current meta and need some help with building teams ans educate me in the format

Tell us a little about your experience in competitive Pokemon (min. 3 sentences): I've been playing Monotype for a while across a few gens and have been able to do really well in tours and on ladder on occasion, and I manage to be able to vote in suspects sometimes, but I haven't really been able to do so consistently. I think I'm a fairly decent player right now, but I also don't think I can really differentiate between what makes a decent player and an excellent player, since I think I could be the latter with some help and dedicated practice but can't perform at a high enough level to be able to do so. Best way I can define it as that I'm at an awkward intermediate stage between being a bit better than average and genuinely noteworthy in tours and ladder. I will also note that while I enjoy playing bad types, like my beloved Rock, I'm perfectly willing to play anything; I mainly think that the mistakes I make when playing something like Rock are the same kinds I make when I play other types as well.
