Welcome to Battling 101! If you're seeking a tutor for SV Ubers, you are in the right place. Please read all the rules carefully and fill out every part of the application.

RULES

  • You must be able to access Discord, or whatever your tutor wants as the primary form of communication.
  • You must be willing to use Pokemon Showdown! even if you are being tutored in a cartridge format such as Battle Spot or VGC.
  • You, the tutee, should have at least 15 posts before signing up AND your account's age should be a minimum of at least 1 month old before signing up.
    • This is not a strict requirement meaning you may still be paired without satisfying it, so no matter what, DO NOT spam post elsewhere in the forum. That is an infractable offense and we do not encourage such behavior from potential Tutees.
  • You must have battled competitively for a decent amount in at least ONE of the Smogon tiers or Battle Spot / VGC to sign up. Playing 10 or so matches on the PS! ladder is not substantial enough, ~70 or so is more reasonable. This experience does not need to be for the format you sign-up for; this is just to weed out people who have never played competitively that can improve themselves simply by using resources already available to them without needing a tutor to hold their hand.
  • You, the tutee, are responsible for setting up times with your tutor. When you receive the Smogon notification informing you of the pairing, please take the initiative and post on their VM wall first. Continued scheduling and communication is key to a successful pairing!
  • Use the Tutee Talk forum to complain about your tutor (or praise them if they're doing a good job). These are no longer mandatory, but if your tutor is ridiculously inactive or is a complete jackass, COMPLAIN HERE. Nobody can see your tutee talk posts except for you and the Battling 101 Staff; everything is confidential.
  • Signups older than 4 months or 1 month since last login will be considered inactive. These will be moved to the Inactive Posts thread, and can be returned back to this thread by request.
  • Tutors can and will drop you if sessions go badly, and significant violations may result in a ban from B101. Be active, be enthusiastic, be respectful. Make the best of your time together!

Tell us a little about your experience in competitive Pokemon (min. 3 sentences): I started playing competitively in early XY and spammed Baton Pass on the ladder. I was pretty skilled I guess. I then got more involved with Smogon and started to play in various tournaments like UUPL and later on Snake and SPL. I could use a bit more practice in this tier though, so I'm looking to get help

I'm a Little Cup main who joined with the freezai LC open and has been doing it ever since. I've been drafted in a few team tournaments, notably the previous two Little Cup Premier Leagues as well as Little Cup Winter League (Inagural SV tour) where my team won. I've gotten a few solid results in the tier vs top players, but nothing too exceptional.

Tell us a little about your experience in competitive Pokemon (min. 3 sentences): I've been in Smogon for a couple years now, mostly playing monotype and recently got interested in Ubers. I joined a couple uber circuit tours and laddered a bit but now I wanna improve my teambuilding and overall grasp of the tier.

Tell us a little about your experience in competitive Pokemon (min. 3 sentences): Playing mons for fun for a year or so now. Been playing lots of smaller ladders and been really enjoying Ubers, but don't "tryhard" often. Went for one peak when I started playing and hit top 5, but now just chill between 1600-1500s running teams for fun more than anything, but can consistently get reqs with good W/L ratios. Did fine during ULT, but didn't get an oppurtunity to play much because of exams, but what it showed me is how much I enjoyed playing against really good players, which made me want to improve at the game. I want to get a few things out of this, first, I want to peak ladder. I wasn't able to before, but I think with some better guidance I can. Additionally, I want to learn more about tour play, since I want to get more involved in them, but not sure how to really succeed in tour setting (signed up for Ubers Open, so hopefully can go pretty far with your help, future tutor!)

Tell us a little about your experience in competitive Pokemon (min. 3 sentences):I played mons in 2016 (Peaked top 23 in ORAS). Came back in May/June after WC ended to compete for a spot in my team and started to learn the tier, right now i'm in a weird spot where Ithink how things works, but still want to improve and a tutor guidance would help a lot. I would like to fight for a spot in UPL/UWC next year so I'm trying to improve as much as I can.

Tell us a little about your experience in competitive Pokemon (min. 3 sentences): I have been playing OU for a while now, and I still ladder a fair bit on OU. Played in the OU fall seasonal, and will hopefully join more open tours soon. The Miraidon been made me interested in the Ubers tier, as it seems like an exciting time to get in touch with the metagame as its changing. Ive only barely managed to get to 1500´s on Ubers ladder, and it seems most my losses are due to lack of meta knowledge. The Ubers tiers looks really cool. Having fun on ladder and enjoying watching the SCL games. Would love some guidance to improve as a player, and maybe espacially as a builder, in the Ubers tier.

Tell us a little about your experience in competitive Pokemon (min. 3 sentences): I first touched a mons game back in 11/2/22 (Yes I remember it, Pokemon X asw) And discovered PS during February 2023, and then I was hooked onto competitive Pokémon since then. It wasn’t until 2024 when I actually tried to go all out and try to become an actually good player and become more active on the forums, The first format I ever tried was SV UU, but in the end it was Ubers and AG that hooked me with their high power levels. I originally just played these tiers in order to practice and use these skills to destroy people on the actual game, but later I wanted to actually play it to play it. Anyways I have tried a few suspect tests, tried to write an analysis in AG twice and stuff, Ubers is my favorite tier of all time and I want to be able to also train my patience a little for both the game and irl stuff I guess.
Are you able to use Discord?: It’s the app I use most, ofc. (Pigbeeef is the username)

I'm aware I don't have the 15 forum posts yet, but I'm not really a forums person - I've been active on PS for over a decade and a trusted user for a good portion of that time.

I've been "casually competitive" for a while, I started around 2014 and have tried a variety of formats. I've particularly enjoyed the higher powered formats, reaching around 1500 in Gen7BH, Gen8AG, and Gen9AG. I played in PSPL VIII representing the Mafia room in Gen8 Ubers and did... poorly, but had a good time playing there. Now that I've got some free time again, I'm looking to improve my play overall and in Ubers/AG in particular. Hopefully I can redeem myself if I get a chance to play in PSPL again.
My preferred playstyle is Offense teams designed around flexible pivots and high damage sweepers wearing down the opposing team, but I'm open to trying alternatives.
