Besides being the best check to Fire-types for Bug teams by virtue of its ability and typing, Araquanid is also highly valued as a trapper that can threaten the bulkiest walls such as Celesteela and Toxapex. By using Spider Web to trap the foe, Araquanid can use Toxic to stall them out. Additionally, it can use Soak to change the typing of naturally Poison-immune Pokemon such as Heatran and Mega Venusaur into Water-types and then proceed to stall them out with Toxic, or Soak can be used simply to remove the foe's STAB to better survive some 3HKOs such as Latios's Psyshock. Because of this, teammates such as Mega Pinsir and Volcarona are ideal partners, as they can set up and sweep safely when their checks are removed. Teammates such as Choice Scarf Heracross and Scizor can also assist Araquanid by being able to threaten its checks such as Tyranitar and Mega Diancie.

QC approved. Possible fun addition to the Soak line is that it actually removes the foe's STAB as well (most of the time). While obvious, I think it's not commonly considered, but it does help Araquanid survive some 3HKOes (such as Latios's Psyshock)
