[OVERVIEW]

Araquanid's natural Special Defense and typing allow it to set up on many passive Pokemon, namely Vaporeon, and it can also take on many attackers such as Blastoise and Salazzle. It also manages to maintain an offensive presence with Water Bubble-boosted Liquidation. However, its low base Attack and Speed leave it outmatched by opposing wallbreakers like Golurk and Sirfetch'd, and it struggles if the opposition lacks Pokemon for it to use Substitute on. Its subpar physical bulk also leaves it struggling to capitalize on many of its resistances, so it can take heavy damage trying to switch into the likes of Copperajah and Passimian.

Substitute should be used against foes that cannot break past Araquanid, such as Vaporeon; it can also be used against Pokemon that it comfortably scares out, like Mudsdale and Salazzle. From behind a Substitute, Araquanid should use a combination of Liquidation and Toxic to wear down foes. Leech Life provides some extra recovery and is Araquanid's best move against Water-resistant foes like Starmie, Rotom-C, and Guzzlord. 188 Speed EVs are used to outspeed uninvested Vaporeon; alternatively, 220 EVs allow it to outpace maximum Speed Glastrier if needed.

Araquanid is most at home when taking advantage of and crippling passive Pokemon like Vaporeon and Mudsdale; this is a great boon for sweepers like Nasty Plot Salazzle. Pokemon like Mudsdale and Diancie also benefit from Araquanid switching into stray Scalds and checking Blastoise for them. In exchange, they can take on various physical attackers that threaten Araquanid; Mudsdale easily takes on the likes of Tyrantrum and Aerodactyl, while Diancie takes care of Flying-types such as Ninjask. Because Araquanid is still vulnerable to Exploud and Sylveon when behind a Substitute, it appreciates the support of Steel-types like Copperajah and Escavalier to take their attacks. In return, Araquanid threatens the opposition's Ground- and Fire-types.

Araquanid is a rare user of Sticky Web, which can be really useful for partners in competitive Speed tiers, like Exploud and Drapion; it can even pull off a dedicated lead set with moves like Magic Coat in such cases. However, such a set is generally regarded as a waste of Araquanid's other talents.

Checks and Counters
====

**Sound Move Wallbreakers**: Araquanid needs to be wary of Exploud and Choice Specs Sylveon; both can bypass Substitute, potentially landing OHKOs after Substitute damage.

**Electric-types and Electric-type Coverage**: Despite Leech Life offensively pressuring them, Rotom-C and Heliolisk are generally safe switch-ins to Liquidation and threaten heavy damage with their STAB attacks. Goodra can hit Araquanid hard with Thunderbolt, preventing it from being a good pivot into it.

**Faster Physical Attackers**: If Araquanid struggles to get a Substitute up, its low Speed and physical bulk leave it vulnerable to the STAB and coverage moves of faster attackers like Golurk and Tauros; even the likes of Diancie and Rhydon can invest in Speed to demolish it before it gets a chance to use Liquidation.

**Poison-types**: Between Dry Skin and its Poison typing, Toxicroak is utterly unfazed by anything Araquanid could try to do to it. Other Poison-types like Dragalge and Vileplume also have solid matchups against it. Garbodor also annoys Araquanid with Rocky Helmet and Aftermath.

**Residual Damage**: Mudsdale and Vaporeon can poison Araquanid with Toxic on the switch and completely ruin its chances of stallbreaking if its team lacks a cleric. Chip damage from Xatu's or Weezing's Rocky Helmet can also give Araquanid issues. Additionally, Passimian can remove Araquanid's Heavy-Duty Boots with Knock Off, forcing it to take entry hazard damage.

[OVERVIEW]

Araquanid distinguishes itself (Distinguishes itself from what exactly?) as a solid check to other common Water-types; its movepool and natural Special Defense allow it to handily take advantage of Vaporeon and Blastoise, as well as check other attackers like Salazzle. (I'm not a huge fan of these two sentences. The general ideas are there, but the wording is sort of messy. I'd lead off with how Araquanid is good at exploiting passive Pokemon with a focus being put on Vaporeon. Then, you should do your sentence about the special attackers it's good at handling.) The bubble spider also manages to maintain an offensive presence by leveraging a powerful Liquidation backed up by Water Bubble. However, despite this, its low base Attack and Speed leave it outmatched by opposing wallbreakers like Golurk and Sirfetch'd, and it struggles if the opposition lacks Pokemon for Araquanid to fully take advantage of. Its subpar physical bulk also leaves Araquanid struggling to capitalize on many of its resistances (Examples would help here I think.).

Substitute should be used against opponents that cannot break it, such as Vaporeon; it can also be used against Pokemon that can be comfortably scared out, like Mudsdale and Arcanine. From behind a Substitute, Araquanid should use a combination of Liquidation and Toxic to wear down opponents foes. Leech Life provides some extra recovery, and allows Araquanid to check offensive Water-types like Blastoise and Starmie. Water Bubble is preferred over Water Absorb as it provides Araquanid with a solid offensive presence in Liquidation. 188 Spe EVs are used to outspeed uninvested Vaporeon; alternatively, 220 EVs allow it to outpace maximum Speed Glastrier if needed.

Araquanid is most at home when taking advantage of passive Water-types like Vaporeon; this is a great boon for sweepers like Nasty Plot Salazzle, which appreciates the spider's ability to take advantage of and wear down teams such Pokemon (Keep the focus on Salazzle and sweepers similar to it benefitting from bulky Water-types specifically being crippled and worn down.). Pokemon like Mudsdale and Diancie also benefit from Araquanid's ability to switch into stray Scald attacks, as well as Araquanid's ability to check Blastoise for them. In exchange, they can take on various physical attackers that threaten Araquanid- Mudsdale easily takes on the likes of Tyrantrum and Aerodactyl, while Diancie takes care of Flying-types such as Ninjask. Because Araquanid opts for Leftovers much of the time, it appreciates hazard removal support from the likes of Rapid Spin Dhelmise or Defog Rotom-C. Araquanid reciprocates with its Water Bubble ability that provides it a resistance to the Fire-type moves that threaten these and other Grass-type friends. Because Araquanid is still vulnerable to certain wallbreakers like Exploud and Sylveon when behind a Substitute, it appreciates the support of Steel-types like Copperajah and Bronzong to take their attacks. Araquanid pulls its weight in this partnership by threatening to use powerful Liquidations against the opposition's Ground-types and Fire-types.

However, such a set is generally regarded as a waste of Araquanid's other talents.

Checks and Counters

**Sound wallbreakers**: Araquanid needs to be highly wary of Exploud and Choice Specs Sylveon; both can blast through Substitute, potentially landing OHKOs after Substitute damage.

**Faster physical attackers**: If Araquanid struggles to get a Substitute up, then its low Speed and physical bulk leave it vulnerable to the STAB moves and coverage of faster attackers like Golurk and Sirfetch'd; even the likes of Diancie or Rhydon can invest in Speed to demolish the spider before it gets a chance to use Liquidation.

**Toxicroak**: Between Dry Skin and its Poison typing, Toxicroak in particular finds itself utterly unfazed by anything Araquanid could try to do to it. (Consider changing this to Poison-types in general because a good few of the ones in NU---Toxicroak, Dragalge, and Vileplume in specific---match really well into Araquanid. Even Garbodor can bother it because of Rocky Helmet and Aftermath.)

**Bulky Water-types**: Despite Araquanid's typically good matchup against passive Water-types, they can sometimes carry moves for the Substitute matchup. For example, Roar Vaporeon and Mantine with Flying-type STAB moves can both break or circumvent Araquanid's Substitute. (Araquanid's niche is that it sits on Vaporeon and still bothers other bulky Water-types, so then saying down here that hey, these Pokemon actually beat it, is misleading.)

Heliolisk can go in here too. Tbolt or hvoice if behind sub, also dry skin to negate liquidation.

This mon loses to a lot LOL..
