Are you vibin' to the vibe?

Hello, Smogon, and welcome to Tomtom's RMT. This is my third RMT, but my first in 5th Gen. This is a kind of odd team, but I find it works fairly well, winning me around 70% of matches where there isn't an opposing Thundurus.

First off, I had seen shofu of Youtube using a Bulk Up Conkeldurr, and I wanted to try it out. So, there's the first member.

Then, I needed to have a decent defensive core to support him, and I like FerroCent.

I found I wanted some decently synergizing sweepers from there, so there were SubRoost Staraptor, and Sheer Force Nidoking.

I found that SpecsJolt went fairly well with Staraptor, so there was the preliminary team.

I found Jolteon wasn't really pulling its weight, so I replaced it with a Broken Plot Thundurus.

I found that CB Nite and Tar did the job better than Raptor and King, respectively, to there they are.

There is the team as it stands today, for you to rate/hate/ridicule

Here is the team more in depth:

conkeldurr.jpg

Conkeldurr (F) @ Leftovers
Trait: Guts
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Atk / 252 SDef
Careful Nature (+SDef, -SAtk)
- Bulk Up
- Drain Punch
- Mach Punch
- Payback

This guy is a boss. I have 6-0ed many a person who sent out a Forretress and set up Rocks, Spikes, and Toxic Spikes while I Bulk Up'd to +6. Yes, those people are noobs, but it doesn't stop this guy from being a boss. I run Max/Max/Special Defense because it allows it to survive many powerful special attacks such as Modest Life Orb Hydreigon's and Timid Specs Lati@s' Draco Meteors and OHKO them both (or 2HKO Hydreigon with DPunch+Mach Punch if he's a lucky bastard). Yeah. It's a boss. Bulk Up is there to boost stats, obviously. Drain Punch and Payback are there for STAB and coverage, respectively. Mach Punch gets priority to destroy faster threats when at low HP.

Type Synergy: Psychic: Ferrothorn, Tyranitar, Jellicent (if the attack isn't named Psyshock)
Flying: (does anything even USE Flying?) Thundurus, Tyranitar

Nattorei.png

Ferrothorn (F) @ Leftovers
Trait: Iron Barbs
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SDef
Relaxed Nature (+Def, -Spd)
- Stealth Rock
- Power Whip
- Leech Seed
- Thunder Wave

This is a physically defensive Ferrothorn, in case you didn't notice. EVs obviously max out the defensive side. Ferrothorn is the teams main offensive pivot. He is vital in taking down threats like Haxorus, and Lati@s if Conkeldurr is down. He is probably the most important 'mon on the entire team, as without him, I would be easily swept by things like DDance Haxorus and the ilk. I will not, in all likelyhoods, be replacing this guy, as he is too vital to the team's synergy to lose.

Type Synergy: Fire/Fighting: Jellicent, Dragonite

jellicent.jpg

Jellicent (M) @ Leftovers
Trait: Water Absorb
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 SDef
Calm Nature (+SDef, -Atk)
- Will-O-Wisp
- Taunt
- Recover
- Surf

This is a Pringlesmon. If there's a special threat without Psyshock or TrickChoice, this guy walls it. If Specs Lati@s comes in on this thing, I tank the Draco, taking only 70% at maximum, meaning I can Recover back up, and tank the rest of the hits, barring a crit. The moves are pretty standard, look em' up on the analysis if you want to know why he's running them. However, I feel he isn't really pulling his weight, as too many things come in and either set up in his face, or OHKO him.

Type Synergy: Ghost/Dark: Ferrothorn, Tyranitar
Electric: Ferrothorn (still want to call that thing Nattorei :P)
Grass: Dragonite, Ferrothorn

248Tyranitar.png

Tyranitar (M) @ Choice Band
Trait: Sand Stream
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Atk / 4 Spd
Adamant Nature (+Atk, -SAtk)
- Crunch
- Pursuit
- Stone Edge
- Superpower

What with all the MixRockTars swirling around these days, this staple of Gen4 has fallen somewhat out of use, meaning the Slowbro coming in gets OHKOed if I have my rocks up. Beat that, MixTar. Tyranitar is a general hit absorber on my team, and doles out double what he took. There used to be a Nidoking in this slot, and to him I say eat your heart out, you aren't getting back in here.

Type Synergy: Fighting: Jellicent, Thundurus, Dragonite
Bug: Conkeldurr, Jellicent, Thundurus, Dragonite
Water: Dragonite, Ferrothorn, Jellicent
Steel: Thundurus, Ferrothorn, Jellicent
Ground: Thundurus, Dragonite
Grass: Thundurus, Dragonite, Ferrothorn

Dragonite_149.jpg

Dragonite (M) @ Choice Band
Trait: Multiscale
EVs: 108 HP / 252 Atk / 148 Spd
Adamant Nature (+Atk, -SAtk)
- Earthquake
- ExtremeSpeed
- Outrage
- Fire Punch

This pudgy dragonmon is my main check to Thundurus and frail Chlorophyll users. Extremespeed is probably the move I use the most, as it can pick off frail sweepers such as the ones mentioned earlier. The EVs outspeed Magnezone while maintaining maximum Attack and high bulk. Fire Punch is there to hit Shedinja and say "Hi" to Ferrothorn (props to the thread, Kepperino!).

Type Synergy: Ice: Jellicent
Dragon: Ferrothorn
Rock: Ferrothorn, Conkeldurr

Thundurus.png

Thundurus (M) @ Life Orb
Trait: Prankster
EVs: 252 SAtk / 6 SDef / 252 Spd
Timid Nature (+Spd, -Atk)
- Nasty Plot
- Focus Blast
- Hidden Power [Ice]
- Thunderbolt

Finally, there's Broken Plot Thundurus. This thing is way too powerful. 2HKO Blissey after a Nasty Plot? That's too powerful. Oh, and don't start saying "well so does porygon-z herp-durp" because Thundurus does it with Base 111 Speed, while P-Z does it at I-get-outspeeded-by-everything-and-their-100-year-old-grandmother Base 90. Seriously, people? Ban this thing!

Type Synergy: Ice: Jellicent
Rock: Ferrothorn

Conkeldurr (F) @ Leftovers
Trait: Guts
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Atk / 252 SDef
Careful Nature (+SDef, -SAtk)
- Bulk Up
- Drain Punch
- Mach Punch
- Payback

Ferrothorn (F) @ Leftovers
Trait: Iron Barbs
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SDef
Relaxed Nature (+Def, -Spd)
- Stealth Rock
- Power Whip
- Leech Seed
- Thunder Wave

Jellicent (M) @ Leftovers
Trait: Water Absorb
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 SDef
Calm Nature (+SDef, -Atk)
- Will-O-Wisp
- Taunt
- Recover
- Surf

Nidoking (M) @ Life Orb
Trait: Sheer Force
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SAtk / 252 Spd
Timid Nature (+Spd, -Atk)
- Earth Power
- Flamethrower
- Ice Beam
- Thunderbolt

Staraptor (F) @ Leftovers
Trait: Reckless
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SDef / 252 Spd
Jolly Nature (+Spd, -SAtk)
- Brave Bird
- Close Combat
- Roost
- Substitute

Thundurus (M) @ Life Orb
Trait: Prankster
EVs: 252 SAtk / 6 SDef / 252 Spd
Timid Nature (+Spd, -Atk)
- Nasty Plot
- Focus Blast
- Hidden Power [Ice]
- Thunderbolt

As you said, other Thundurus stand a good chance at 6-0ing you if you lose the speed tie. Also chlorophyll sweepers on sun teams will be able to do the same with ease. Thundurus is pretty powerful, if not broken, but you need a way to beat it if you want to win consistently. There are two quick ways to fix this. You could try running a choice band dragonite over Staraptor. With its extremespeed you can pick off Thundurus and frail chlorophyll sweepers. CB Outrage also lets you deal around 80% to Reuniclus who can threaten a sweep against you as well. Dragonite is also incredibly bulky, has multiscale, and makes a great lead as not much can beat it 1v1.

If you don't like CBnite, the second is running a scarfer over Nido. This will let you revenge Thundurus and I think nido himself makes a decent scarfer. Stuff like Landorus or Terrakion are good at that too.

Hey there,

Cool team. However, like Eggbert said, your team is very weak to Thundurus and Chlorophyll sweepers. Once your Thundurus is down, the opponent's will be sweeping big time. Energy Ball/ Growth / HP Fire /Sleep Powder Venusaur also threatens this team pretty much, you'll have to rely on Sleep Powder missing Staraptor to actually kill it. Furthermore, this team is weak to Reuniclus. It will be able to set up its Calm Minds on Ferrothorn and then sweep your team, maybe Staraptor can stop it with Brave Bird, but still, Reuniclus is so bulky that it isn't even funny. Even if Jellicent is able to tank Draco Meteor from Latios, it can't take multiple Draco Meteors, and if the opponent has a pursuit user (like Tyranitar), you're screwed. Latios is take down everything on this team. Calm Mind Latias with HP Fire (which is quite common) steamrolls through this team easily as well. Nothing will be able to revenge kill it, while it will be able to take down everything in 1/2 hits. All those threats share a same counter though. I suggest you swap Nidoking for a Choice Band Tyranitar. It checks all these threats bar Thundurus, which is kinda cool. Since you have Conkeldurr, you will have no troubles with opposing Sand Storm threats. Here's the standard set :

Tyranitar @ Choice Band
Adamant
Sand Stream
EVs : 252 HP / 252 Atk / 4 Spe
-Crunch
-Pursuit (OHKOes Latios even if it stays)
-Stone Edge
-Superpower (You can go with Earthquake too)

Now if you wanna beat Thundurus, take Eggbert's suggestion.

Thanks, guys. I think I'll try the TTar, first.

EDIT: Well guys, it would appear that Staraptor and Nidoking are getting the boot. Thanks!

maybe switch out jellicent for unaware curse quagsire? it helps against thunderous and is a great counter to those boost users.

Quagsire
Leftovers
Relaxed
252 hp, 252 def, 4 att
Unaware
MOVESET:
Curse
Recover
Earthquake
Waterfall

To fix the Thundurus issue, you could try a Scarf Tyranitar to serve as a check. Reuniclus remains a problem though, so I would personally prefer a ChopleTar over your current set. Stealth Rock / Crunch / Fire Blast / Pursuit allows you to trap Latios / Latias and check threats like Gengar, Reuniclus and Thundurus before a boost. It also opens up a slot for Spikes on Ferrothorn; the extra hazards can be really useful.

I'd also recommend a Lum Berry on Thundurus. You still have enough power for all the necessary KOs, but you won't have to worry about status. This really punishes people who rely on specially defensive Jirachi to check Thundurus, since +2 Thunderbolt KOs and Body Slam won't paralyze. Thunder Wave is also an option if you need an emergency check to other Thundurus with LO, but it'll hurt your coverage significantly.

I'm still missing the check to Specs Latios once Tar goes down. Dmeteor is going to hit very hard on anything, and there's HP Fire vs. Ferrothorn. Additionally, Rotom-W looks like it could give you a couple of issues if it runs HP Ice. I really think Lum on Thundurus could help you a lot as well; especially against Loom who, with Sub Poison Heal Stone Edge (best set imo) could really screw up your team bad.

Another change could be making dnite a mixnite. Would give him access to fire blast and Draco meteor and make him hit harder on your teams weaknesses. Maybe even givig dnite the thunderwave and givig ferro protect for surviving
