PU Leader

[OVERVIEW]

Despite its access to both Sticky Web and Toxic Spikes, Ariados is an abysmal lead for multiple reasons. Its low Speed leaves it very vulnerable to Taunt users, notably Froslass and Qwilfish, two far better leads, as well as a slew of offensive Pokemon. To make this issue worse, the prevalence of Skuntank, Qwilfish, and Roselia tends to limit the effectiveness of Toxic Spikes. Ariados's offensive presence is also rather lackluster, forcing it to rely on Swarm-boosted Megahorn for most of its damage output. Finally, it is simply grossly outclassed by other leads like Froslass, Qwilfish, and even Smeargle, with their higher Speed tiers and greater utility options and supportive capabilities making them easier to use and much more consistent.

[SET]
name: Lead
move 1: Sticky Web
move 2: Toxic Spikes
move 3: Megahorn
move 4: Toxic Thread / Sucker Punch
item: Focus Sash
ability: Swarm
nature: Jolly
evs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe

[SET COMMENTS]

This set tries to use Ariados's access to Sticky Web and Toxic Spikes to turn it into a lead. Although it can slow down and cripple opposing Pokemon with Toxic Thread, which can make for easier setup, there is very little reason to use Ariados over other leads like Froslass, Qwilfish, and Smeargle. All of them are faster, have greater staying power because of their superior defensive presences, can more actively threaten Taunt users, and have access to greater utility and support options like Will-O-Wisp, Destiny Bond, Taunt, Thunder Wave, Explosion, and Spore. Froslass can even block Rapid Spin thanks to its Ghost typing, while Qwilfish and Smeargle directly outperform Ariados as Toxic Spikes and Sticky Web users, respectively.

Its low Speed leaves it very vulnerable to Taunt users, notably Froslass and Qwilfish, two far better leads, as well as a slew of wallbreakers like Aurorus, Stoutland, and Mesprit. (just say offensive mons cuz it dies to like anything, and no need to put examples here)To make this issue worse, Skuntank, Qwilfish, and Roselia being very common tends to limit the effectiveness of Toxic Spikes. Its offensive presence is also rather lackluster, forcing it to rely on Swarm-boosted Megahorn for most of its damage output. All of them are faster, have greater staying power because of their superior defensive presences, can more actively threaten Taunt users, and have access to greater utility and support options like Will-O-Wisp, Destiny Bond, Taunt, Thunder Wave, Explosion, and Spikes.
