Media Artificial Intelligence's place in creating art?

I am returning to this thread because I've been seeing an increased amount of edited AI art that genuinely got me couple of times, despite being an artist myself and having been rather accurate in my guesses so far

artifacts remain but drawn over AI art looks 90-99% natural, but still feels wrong in a way? Not quite like full AI art though...

that has me now a little confused because there is an artistic element to it and it could be comparable to taking another artists work as a reference, which is something that basically every artist does to a degree. So I am not even completely sure if its stealing from the side of the user. It would be stealing from the people that make the tools though, as they commercially profit from other people's work

I won't be doing it personally because it still feels wrong and editing it over so much that it looks right would probably take longer than using a decent reference. But I can't deny that, for the first time, I am seeing AI involvement in the artistic process that genuinely looks decent, good even at times...

what's your takes on that?
