So I just came in from the Advance era, and man things have changed... here's what I'm using atm:
Updated to try and conform.
Tyranitar (M) @ Leftovers
Trait: Sand Stream
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spd
Adamant Nature (+Atk, -SAtk)
- Crunch
- Dragon Dance
- Fire Punch
- Stone Edge
The TTar lead has worked pretty well so far... Stone Edge ohkos gyarados. Well, it doesn't, but the sandstorm finishes gyarados off, so meh to that, plus most people expect cb. I once had a alakazam trick a choiceband onto it and then eat a crunch, which I thought was hilarious. I personally thought TTar was highly overrated in gen3, but it went way up in gen4 while CB Salamence (what I used to lead with) went way down.
Lucario (M) @ Life Orb
Trait: Inner Focus
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spd
Adamant Nature (+Atk, -SAtk)
- Close Combat
- Crunch
- Extremespeed
- Swords Dance
Lucario is my favorite pokemon that was released in gen4, and as he's also really solid (and immune to sand stream) he earned a place on my team... no question. His extreme speed helps me out of a lot of jams, such as Togekiss and it's annoying 60% flinch rate. He's also quick enough without extreme speed to revenge kill quite a few pokemon, including opponent's ttars.
Hippowdon (M) @ Leftovers
Trait: Sand Stream
EVs: 252 HP / 168 Def / 88 SDef
Impish Nature (+Def, -SAtk)
- Earthquake
- Slack Off
- Stealth Rock
- Toxic
My main physical wall. Earthquake doesn't seam to work to well on this... but what can you do? There's not much else to say here... it's a physica wall. I bring it in against physical threats, toxic, stealth rock, sometimes stall... Earthquake seems really sub-par. It does like no damage to anything.
Heatran (M) @ Choice Scarf
Trait: Flash Fire
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Spd / 252 SAtk
Naive Nature (+Spd, -SDef)
- Dragon Pulse
- Earth Power
- Fire Blast
- Hidden Power [Grass]
My main man for special sweeping. I show lucario to bait a fire attack and then flip out to heatran and sweep with fireblast. I went with HP Grass to cover for swampert on this team since I have two pokemon that have Ice attacks... one special and one physical. I also opted against explosion for two reasons: 1) I hate explosion and 2) explosion seems like what you do when the pokemon's time is up... and for that it means switching heatran out and then back in.
Porygon-Z @ Choice Specs
Trait: Adaptability
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Spd / 252 SAtk
Modest Nature (+SAtk, -Atk)
- Dark Pulse
- Hidden Power [Fighting]
- Ice Beam
- Tri Attack
This is another special sweeper, and honestly feels like the weak point of the team. Still, I'm just not sure what to do with this guy. I would like to replace him, but I'm not sure with what. He covers quite a bit for me and I do love his ability to own with tri attack.
Gyarados (M) @ Leftovers
Trait: Intimidate
EVs: 6 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spd
Adamant Nature (+Atk, -SAtk)
- Dragon Dance
- Ice Fang
- Stone Edge
- Waterfall
Gyarados is, was, and always will be my favorite pokemon. There is nothing more special and amazing than 2 DDs on a gyarados and sweeping ftw. I've been flipping back and forth between this and bulky gyara, but one thing's for sure, I hate life orb with a passion. I might try running the bulky EVs with this movepool though, mostly because I find that this move spread is really important.
Gameplan: Opening with sandstream isnt' a problem, but basically this is all a big setup to where I can bring in either TTar or Gyara for the dd sweep.
Disclaimer: I'm still working on getting my head around the vast number of pokemon in this generation. I have not actually played diamond/pearl (I use netbattle) so half these pokemon are still new to me, but I've been playing on netbattle for a while in gen4. Basically this is the first team that started consistantly winning, so I figured at this point it would be a good idea to pop over here and just check to make sure I'm not winning because of some fluke. I seem to have some problems with Gengar (as usual) and Togekiss, but like I said before I can take togekiss by stalling a bit with hippowdon and then using extreme speed to sacrifice lucario.
