Attempt at an Anti-Platinum team

The game has changed with all the additions Platinum has brought in. Skymin running around everywhere, Heatran, Salamence, and Scizor on just about every team. This is my attempt at taking down these "new" threats.

heatran.png

Heatran (M) @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Flash Fire
EVs: 252 Spd/252 SAtk/6 SDef
Timid nature (+Spd, -Atk)
- Earth Power
- Explosion
- Flamethrower
- Hidden Power [Dark]

I know I am trying to counter the metagame, but I need Heatran here. He does two things for me: Kills Zong, and stops all these damn Trick-Scarfers. The most prevalent being Metagross, Alakazam, and Gengar. Why HP Dark? Its mostly filler, since I don't need HP Ice or Electric, hits gengar and Zam harder.

gyarados.png

Gyarados (M) @ Leftovers
Ability: Intimidate
EVs: 68 HP/252 Atk/188 Spd
Adamant nature (+Atk, -SAtk)
- Earthquake
- Ice Fang
- Waterfall
- Dragon Dance

This is just a staple on all of my teams, servers no purpose other than to DD and Anihilate. Everyone understands what this guy does.

swampert.png

Swampy (Swampert) (M) @ Leftovers
Ability: Torrent
EVs: 252 HP/6 Atk/252 Def
Impish nature (+Def, -SAtk)
- Avalanche
- Earthquake
- Waterfall
- Stealth Rock

I am trying this over Vaporeon. It does just about the same thing and can give me some help against electrics. Covers Heatran for me, Salamence, and can suffle once Rocks are setup.

zapdos.png

Zappy (Zapdos) @ Leftovers
Ability: Pressure
EVs: 224 HP/120 Def/64 Spd/100 SAtk
Timid nature (+Spd, -Atk)
- Thunderbolt
- Hidden Power [Ice]
- Heat Wave
- Roost

This thing has Skymin covered. Resists Seed Flare and Air slash, and is immune to eath power. I only got to watch out for Skymins that carry HP Ice. Zappy Also enjoys having Heat Wave since it can also decently counter Scizor as well. Roost for for more survivability.

jirachi.png

Jirachi @ Leftovers
Ability: Serene Grace
EVs: 80 HP/176 Spd/252 SAtk
Timid nature (+Spd, -Atk)
- Calm Mind
- Energy Ball
- Hidden Power [Fire]
- Psychic

I have never used Jirachi before, but I gotta say it working out well. This guy counters Scizor for me, he resists both of scizor's priority moves and can hit back hard with HP Fire. Jirachi can also do a fair amount of sweeping if I get some Calm Minds in there.

skarmory.png

Skarmory (M) @ Leftovers
Ability: Keen Eye
EVs: 252 HP/96 Atk/156 Def/4 Spd
Impish nature (+Def, -SAtk)
- Drill Peck
- Spikes
- Roost
- Whirlwind

Residual damage FTW! If I get Rocks and Spikes set up every poke that comes in, that isn't resistant/immune to both, takes about 29% damage. That is much appreciated and can help late-game. Rocks also helps hinder Skymin sweeps. Whirlwind > Roost because too many people were trying to setup on me.

Additional:

-Does anyone know the Max IV setups for HP Fire and HP Ice on Legendaries? Specifically Jirachi and Zapdos.

-Yes my team is Electric weak, and Stealth Rocks weak. I am thinking about putting in Donphan. But who do I put him over?

Heatran learns Dark Pulse so HP dark is kinda dumb, and dark pulse is pointless on heatran when Fire Blast hits neutral things just as hard, use hp ice/electric/grass

I am not to fond of you having 3 pokemon weak to electric without a for sure way of absorbing the attack, as you only have jirachi or zapdos that can take an electric attack decently. As for your jirachi I think it would serve better with Substitute over energy ball since I am assuming its only there for swampert. I am not sure you realized this or not but your skarm doesnt have roost which means its kind of serving like a suicidal spiker or something which I am not to sure about

Alright, I took out Vaporeon and put in Swampert. This helps my Electric weakness out, the only other thing I could think of would be Either Donphan or Electivire over Gyarados.

I could try Rocks/Spikes/Roost/Whirlwind I just don't want to be f'd when a taunter comes in.

You could always give Swampert SR to make room for the much needed roost on Skarmory. Swampert is an effective layer of SR due to being fairly bulky so that should work fairly well.

As already stated HP Dark is very, well... useless. Heatran learns Dark Pulse which has about 20 more BP. Fire Blast does more to Gengar and Alakazam either way, and as you are running a ScarfTran, it is necessary for the boost in power Heatran needs to sweep. I would recommend you switch Flamethrower for Fire Blast because of this fact. As Dark Pulse or HP Dark are basically just fillers, why not use a filler than can help you? This means work around Heatran's threats, and especially your whole teams. Since Heatran and your team are basically Gyarados bait, bar Zapdos, HP Electric is in order. This would go over HP Dark of course.

Gyarados and Swampert are basically fine, but now we come to Zapdos. Zapdos is basically fine but you say it covers your Skymin and Scizor weaknesses. If you really want this to cover both your EV spread would need to be tweaked a bit. First of all, you would need to basically just max the HP (252 HP EVs). Second, we would want to even out both defenses and still keep those speed EVs of 64. To even out defenses, 60 Def, and 20 SpD evens this out. If you would like even more bulk, it is suggested you use, 84 Def, 44 SpD. Both defenses will be even and it will help you take both easily. The remaining EVs of 66 will all go to the Special Attack.

To summarize, switch Zapdos's EV spread to 252 HP, 84 Def, 66 SpA, 44 SpD, 64 Spe. This will balance the defenses and allow you to take care of both threats effectively. The moveset and everything else about Zapdos is fine though. As for the rest of your Pokemon, they are fine. I hope my advice helps you somewhat.

I'm wondering as to why you have earthpower on swampert with a -special attack nature, especially when he has stronger move in Earthquake backed by a stronger base stat. Change earthpower for earthquake. It serves no real purpose to use power over quake, no pokemon weak to ground will take more from it than from a quake when you have a -nature.

The team looks good on paper, but having Skarm, Gyara and Tran makes it very Starmie weak. Magnezone can also trap Skarm and Jirachi.

Yeah, I forgot Heatran learned Dark Pulse, my bad. I think I will throw in HP Electric.

And I will change Zappy's EVs thanks alot for that one!

And Earth Power was a mistake, I realized shortly after losing a match that I clicked the wrong attack.
