[OVERVIEW]

========

Avalugg is a great wall on Ice teams thanks to its incredible Defense allowing it to tank physical attacks from Pokemon like Excadrill and Mega Sharpedo, utility in Rapid Spin, and access to Recover. Furthermore, Sturdy allows it to survive an OHKO and use Rapid Spin or attack with Avalanche. Avalugg can also phaze threatening setup sweepers like Mega Scizor and Volcarona that will attempt to use it as fodder. Unfortunately, its pure Ice typing doesn't contribute much to Ice teams, compounding a weakness to Stealth Rock and Steel-, Fire-, and Fighting-types like Magnezone, Heatran, Victini, and Mega Gallade. Its lack of coverage moves and inability to normally run Toxic leave it walled by opposing defensive Pokemon like Porygon2, Jellicent, and Skarmory. Avalugg's poor special bulk also causes any special attack to wear it down to a great extent.

[SET]
name: Defensive Rapid Spin
move 1: Rapid Spin
move 2: Avalanche
move 3: Roar
move 4: Recover
item: Rocky Helmet / Leftovers
ability: Sturdy
nature: Impish
evs: 252 HP / 4 Atk / 252 Def

[SET COMMENTS]
Avalanche utilizes Avalugg's decent Attack to give it an offensive presence against faster Pokemon like Terrakion and Weavile. Roar allows Avalugg to phaze setup sweepers like Mega Scizor and Azumarill. Sturdy allows Avalugg to survive any attack and use Rapid Spin or Avalanche. Rocky Helmet wears down physical attackers like Azumarill, Excadrill, and Mega Lopunny, but Leftovers is an option to give Avalugg passive recovery.

All of Avalugg's teammates appreciate Rapid Spin removing entry hazards. Kyurem-B's vast coverage allows it to muscle through defensive Pokemon like Mega Venusaur, Heatran, and Sableye. Choice Scarf Weavile can deal with threatening Psychic- and Ghost-types like Victini and Gengar and revenge kill faster Pokemon like Choice Scarf Jirachi, Mega Lopunny, and +1 Volcarona. Mamoswine can KO Rock-, Steel-, and Electric-types like Tyranitar, specially defensive Jirachi, and Raikou and offers an immunity to Electric-type attacks. Piloswine also offers an Electric immunity and can better survive special attacks from Pokemon like Mega Charizard Y and Volcarona. Avalugg also forms a bulky defensive core with Piloswine that can check physical attackers like Golurk and Drapion. Lapras can sponge Water-type attacks, KO Water-types like Slowbro, Suicune, and Rotom-W, and notably survive +2 Bullet Punch from Mega Scizor and retaliate with Hidden Power Fire. Cloyster can set up with Shell Smash and outspeed and KO Fire- and Bug-types like Victini and Choice Scarf Heracross. In return, Avalugg can switch into priority users like Breloom and Mega Pinsir, which may revenge kill Cloyster.

[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Other Options
=============

Ice
--------
Toxic cripples defensive and Ice-resistant Pokemon like Porygon2, Slowbro, and Rotom-W. Avalugg can utilize Sturdy + Mirror Coat to surprise and KO special attackers like Heatran and Keldeo. Although Toxic and Mirror Coat have their uses, Roar is still the preferred option so Avalugg isn't used as setup fodder.

Checks and Counters
===================

Ice
--------

**Bulky Pokemon**: Avalugg doesn't have good attacking stats, so it has a problem breaking through opposing bulky Pokemon like Tentacruel, Mega Venusaur, Porygon2, and Slowbro. The latter three can notably heal off the damage Avalugg does with their reliable recovery.

**Ghost-types**: Ghost-types prevent Avalugg from removing entry hazards, causing it to be worn down every time it comes in.

**Special Attackers**: Due to its poor special bulk, special attackers like Keldeo, Hydreigon, and Nidoking can KO Avalugg; however, the latter two need to be cautious of Avalugg being at maximum HP and retaliating with Avalanche.

**Residual Damage**: Avalugg is easily crippled and worn down by burn and poison, as they both nullify Leftovers recovery, as well as by entry hazards. Entry hazards also hinder the use of Sturdy, allowing Pokemon to pick up KOs more easily on Avalugg.

**Taunt**: Taunt from foes like Mew, Mega Gyarados, and Sableye prevents Avalugg from using Recover and Roar.

move 4: Recover
If the set name is Defensive Spin, then wouldn't you want Rapid Spin as the first move?

[SET COMMENTS]
Adjust accordingly with new move order.
* Avalanche is used over other Ice moves to utilize its decent Attack and poor Speed to give it an offensive presence. How does its poor Speed factor in? Avalanche has negative priority.
* Rocky Helmet wears down physical attackers like Azumarill, Excadrill, and Landorus-T Mega Lopunny that contacts Avalugg. I dislike Landorus-T as an example here. Mega Lopunny seems more relevant.
* Kyurem-B's colorful coverage allows it to can muscle through defensive Pokemon like Jellicent, Mega Venusuar Venusaur, Heatran, and Zapdos and Steel-types like Ferrothorn and Mega Scizor with Hidden Power Fire. Are Jellicent and Zapdos really all that relevant here? Feel like there's better examples out there.
* Weavile can deal with threatening Psychic- and Ghost-types like Choice Band Victini and Gengar, and revenge kill faster Pokemon like Choice Scarf Jirachi, Mega Lopunny, and +1 Volcarona thanks to Choice Scarf. Needs a decent amount of chip to revenge kill Mega Lopunny. If this is Choice Scarf Weavile then why was there a need to specify Victini's item?

Checks and Counters
Add Fighting- and Steel-types.
**Bulky Pokemon**: Avalugg doesn't have good attacking stats, so it has a problem breaking through opposing bulky Pokemon Tentacruel, Mega Venusaur, Porygon2, and Slowbro. The latter three can notably heal off damage Avalugg does with Synthesis, Recover, and Slack Off, respectively their reliable recovery. The former two Pokemon Porygon2 and Slowbro should be cautious of the occasional Toxic from Avalugg as it can wear them down exponentially. Tentacruel and Mega Venusaur cannot be poisoned.

**Fire-types**: Fire-types like Darmanitan, Victini, and Volcarona can demolish Avalugg with their STAB moves. The former two can muscle through Avalugg with their physical attacks, regardless of its high Defense.

**Special Attackers**: Due to its poor special bulk, special attackers like Chandelure, Keldeo, Hydreigon, and Nidoking can KO Avalugg, however, the former two need to be cautious of Avalugg being at maximum HP or else, it can retaliate with Avalanche. I prefer that you keep it to more mainstream examples than Chandelure.

[overview]
- no need to state 184 defense, just talking about its physical bulk is good enough
- use a different fighting example maybe like mega gallade>nape

[SET]
name: Defensive Rapid Spin (Ice)

[set comments]
- rapid spin line is dex info, you can just remove it
- name a good avalanche target
- raikou is a bad example for roar, doesn't really need to setup to take on avalugg
- also take out the line about recover, see rapid spin
- you can also remove the max/max ev line, its unneeded
- kyurem-b only takes on mega scizor with hp fire which is rare, same with ferrothorn. i would remove those examples
- add victini to the weavile examples
- avalugg is a shaky infernape check, since either its lead fire or mixed lo on fighting. would use something else

[other options]
- add mirror coat, with sturdy intact it can nab some surprise koes such as vs heatran.
- add toxic here. both of these would replace roar, mention why roar is generally more useful

[checks and counters]
- bulky pokemon: remove toxic, since its mentioned nowhere aside the oo
- delete fire, steel, and fighting-types from the c&c section. supereffective section isn't needed and fairly obvious
- merge entry hazards + status into residual damage

Its pure Ice typing doesn't contribute much to Ice teams due to them already being weak to Stealth Rock and Steel-, Fire-, and Fighting-types like Magnezone, Heatran, Victini, and Mega Gallade.(This sounds like a negative trait and should prolly be moved down.) Roar allows Avalugg to phaze set up sweepers like Mega Scizor, Mega Heracross, and Volcarona that will attempt to use it as fodder.(These two sentences sound like set detail sentences. I would rephrase it somehow to be more general) Its lack of coverage moves and room inability to normally run Toxic leaves it walled by opposing defensive Pokemon like Porygon2, Jellicent, and Skarmory.
