ZU Avalugg [QC 3/3] [GP 2/2] [Done]

177827

[OVERVIEW]

With great physical bulk, reliable recovery, and access to Rapid Spin, Avalugg can find itself a niche role on stall teams in the ZU metagame. Thanks to its sky-high Defense stat, Avalugg can stomach hits from a variety of physical attackers in the tier including Pinsir, Choice Band Komala, and Torterra. Rapid Spin allows it to remove entry hazards for the team, especially against certain Stealth Rock users such as Torterra, Sandslash, Marowak, and Gabite due to its great matchup versus them. However, since Avalugg is a grounded pure Ice-type, it is weak to entry all forms of entry hazards, especially Stealth Rock, and unable to beat entry hazard setters such as Mawile, Bronzor, and Explosion Golem, thus not making it the best form of entry hazard removal in the tier. In addition, its extremely low Special Defense stat leaves it vulnerable to special attackers such as Combusken, Swanna, and Electivire. Avalugg faces tough competition as a form of entry hazard removal, as Sandslash and Komala provide better role compression and are not weak to Stealth Rock. Lastly, Avalugg mainly fits on defensive teams and requires a considerable amount of support from its teammates, such as a special wall like Bronzor, to take special hits for it.

[SET COMMENTS]
Moves
========

Rapid Spin allows Avalugg to switch in on entry hazard setters such as Torterra, Sandslash, Gabite, Smeargle, and Quilladin and remove Stealth Rock, Spikes, and Sticky Web to support the team. Avalanche gives Avalugg an Ice-type STAB move that move has great synergy with Avalugg's slow base Speed and high base Attack, dealing great damage if Avalugg is hit first on that turn. Toxic can be used to cripple switch-ins such as Gourgeist-XL, Combusken, and Simipour, which provides more utility. Roar allows Avalugg to phaze Pokemon that try to set up on it such as Silvally-Fighting, Pinsir, Shiftry, and Pawniard.

Set Details
========

Maximum HP and Defense investment alongside an Impish nature allows Avalugg to become the best physical wall it can be to take on Swords Dance users such as Pinsir and Leafeon. Sturdy is Avalugg's best ability, as it gives it the opportunity to phaze a setup sweeper or OHKO a threat with Avalanche such as Altaria or Marowak when at full HP. Leftovers gives Avalugg passive recovery, while Rocky Helmet wears down physical attackers using contact moves such as Komala.

Usage Tips
========

Switch Avalugg in on physical attackers such as Pinsir, Komala, Torterra, and Marowak, as Avalugg can take their hits quite comfortably. Also, directly switch in Avalugg on a predicted Stealth Rock from setters that it can spin on and beat such as Torterra, Sandslash, Marowak, and Gabite. It is best to keep Avalugg as healthy as possible throughout the match, as it can continually check physical attackers and remove entry hazards when needed. Therefore, Avalugg will have to use Recover a considerable amount, potentially letting it be taken advantage of. Avalugg is also able to throw out a Toxic on a predicted switch-in as well as Toxic stall a majority of physical attackers. Use Roar to phaze setup sweepers such as Swords Dance Pinsir and Silvally-Fighting. It is best to avoid Toxic poison from Bronzor, as that will then put a timer on Avalugg. If this happens, it is best to switch out Avalugg for Pokemon like Lickilicky, which carry Cleric moves like Heal Bell and provide Wish support. Avalugg must also avoid taking special hits, as its poor special bulk will not allow it to take many special attacks from Combusken, Swanna, and Simisear. Against these foes, it is best to switch out Avalugg for Pokemon with great special bulk such as Mareanie and Bronzor.

Team Options
========

Special walls such as Bronzor, Kecleon, and Lickilicky can sponge special attacks that threaten Avalugg, as it has poor Special Defense; in return, Avalugg can take physical hits for them, while Lickilicky also provides Wish support and can serve as a cleric with Heal Bell. Altaria and Beheeyem can beat Ghost-types such as Gourgeist-XL and Dusknoir that attempt to act as a spinblocker to Avalugg. Defoggers such as Rotom-F can remove Toxic Spikes and Stealth Rock so that Avalugg does not get whittled down too far over the course of the match. Pokemon such as Mareanie and Muk can absorb Toxic Spikes. Silvally-Dragon, Gourgeist-XL, and Pyukumuku can be excellent partners for Avalugg, as they complement its weaknesses and can check Pokemon such as Combusken, Silvally-Water, Silvally-Fighting, and Floatzel.

[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Other Options
=============

Earthquake can be used to catch Pokemon such as Probopass, Combusken, Raichu, and Simisear as they switch in, as they all can take advantage of Avalugg. It is generally not preferred, however, as Avalugg must forego using Toxic or Roar in the last slot, and the utility those two moves provide is superior.

Checks and Counters
===================

**Specially Attacking Threats**: Due to Avalugg's poor base Special Defense, a majority of special attackers threaten Avalugg such as Combusken, Simisear, Beheeyem, and Floatzel. All of these Pokemon have the ability to OHKO Avalugg.

**Super Effective Attacks**: Fire-, Fighting-, Steel-, and Rock-type moves can take down Avalugg. Fire Blast from Simisear, Focus Blast from Combusken, Flash Cannon from Probopass, and Head Smash from Rampardos are all super effective moves that can eliminate Avalugg.

**Entry Hazards**: Avalugg is weak to all forms of entry hazards; Stealth Rock, Spikes, and Toxic Spikes are all detrimental to it in battle. This forces Avalugg to use Recover often in order to stay at as high HP as possible; thus, Avalugg can easily be taken advantage of by offensive threats, as they can switch in on a predicted Recover.

**Status**: Toxic poison prevents Avalugg from staying in for extended periods of time. Acquiring poison prevents Avalugg from indefinitely spinning on Stealth Rock setters, as well as from checking certain Pokemon such as Swords Dance Pinsir and Silvally-Fighting.

[OVERVIEW]

*With great physical bulk, reliable recovery, and access to hazard removal, Avalugg can find itself a niche role in the ZU tier. Just say Rapid Spin instead of hazard removal.
*With a sky-high Defense stat Avalugg can stomach hits from a variety of physical attackers in the tier including Pinsir, Komala, and Marowak.
*Rapid Spin allows it to remove entry hazards for the team, and most notably immediately allowing Avalugg to spin on Stealth Rock users such as Sandslash, Marowak, and Gabite.
*However, Avalugg being a pure Ice-type, is weak to entry all forms of entry hazards, and especially weak to Stealth Rock, thus not making it the best form of hazard removal in the tier as it does not beat hazard setters such as Golem, Mawile, and Bronzor. With max Defense, it is actually able to 1v1 (assuming it doesn't take SR damage) non-Toxic Golem so adjust this point accordingly.
* In addition, it's extremely low Special Defense stat leaves it vulnerable to special attackers such as Combusken, Swanna, and Electivire.
*Avalugg also sports an extremely low speed stat and is also vulnerable to Taunt users such as Mismagius, Floatzel, and Vigoroth. Misdreavus
*Lastly Avalugg's poor defensive typing does not provide it with any useful resistances and provides it with many weaknesses. Move to last point
*Avalugg faces tough competition as a form of hazard removal as options including Sandslash, and Komala as they are not weak to Stealth Rock and provide better role compression.

Mention that Avalugg mainly fits on defensive teams and requires considerable support

Moves
========

*Rapid Spin allows Avalugg to switch in on entry hazard users and remove them to support the team. The overview mentions that it cannot switch into the top entry hazard setters and is very weak to entry hazards, so be sure to specify what it can spin on.
*Recover allows Avalugg to continually stay healthy giving it longevity throughout the match to continuously check physical attackers like Pinsir, Bouffalant, and Marowak.
*Avalanche gives Avalugg an Ice-type STAB move, doubling in power if Avalugg is hit first in that turn to deal great damage to foes. This move has great synergy with Avalugg's slow base Speed and high base Attack.
*Roar allows Avalugg to phase out Pokemon that try to setup on it such as Silvally-Fighting, Pinsir, Shiftry, and Pawniard. Should come after Toxic point
*Toxic can be used to cripple switch-ins to Avalugg such as Gourgeist-Super, and Simisear, which provides more utility.

Set Details
========

*Maximum Hp and Defense investment alongside an Impish nature allows Avalugg to become the best physical wall it can be to take on Swords Dance users such as Pinsir, and Bouffalant.
*Sturdy is Avalugg's most optimal ability as it can never be OHKOed from full giving it the opportunity to Roar out a setup sweeper. Give examples of what it would check with Sturdy.
*Rocky Helmet wears down physical attackers using contact moves such as Komala, while Leftovers gives Avalugg passive recovery. Adjust this point with the set changes

Usage Tips
========

*Switch-in Avalugg on physical attackers such as Pinsir, Komala, and Marowak as Avalugg can take their hits quite comfortably.
*Also directly switch in Avalugg on Stealth Rock users such as Sandslash, Marowak, and Gabite or other Stealth Rock setters that it can spin on and beat. Mention that Avalugg must be wary of Toxic from Sandslash and Gabite.
*It is best to keep Avalugg as healthy as possible throughout the match as it can continually check physical attackers and continually remove hazards when needed. Mention that this means Avalugg tends to click Recover a lot
Utilize Avalanche to 1v1 a foe going for a strong attack and in return OHKO it with Avalanche. Give an example of this, preferably a scenario
*Use Roar to phase out setup sweepers such as Swords Dance Pinsir and Sivally-Fighting. Mention that Avalugg must be wary of being worn down.
*It is best to avoid burn from Pokemon such as Gourgeist-Super, as it will halve Avaluggs base 117 Attack stat and as well as toxic poison from Bronzor as that will weaken Avalugg significantly. Mention how Avalugg should play around this
*Avalugg must also avoid taking special hits as its poor special bulk will not allow it to take many special attacks from Combusken, Swanna, and Simisear.

Overall the usage tips are solid and can be slightly more detailed. Mention how Avalugg should switch into teammates to cover the threats it loses to, how important it is to stall foes, and how it should play around entry hazard setters

Team Options
========

* Special walls such as Bronzor, Kecleon can sponge special attacks that threaten Avalugg as it has poor SpD, as well as Avalugg can take physical hits for them. Mention Lickilicky. It's also able to wish pass and use heal bell. Specify that bronzor is also able to check golem for avalugg.
*Pursuit trappers such as Pawniard, can trap and remove Ghost-types such as Gourgeist-Super and Dusknoir that attempt to act as a spin blocker to stop Avalugg from getting off a Rapid Spin. Should remove this point entirely because Gourg-XL is never really Pursuit trapped and Dusknoir is scarcely used. Instead, replace this point with teammates that can beat those Ghost-types, such as Altaria and Beheeyem.
*Defoggers such as Swanna, and Rotom-Fan can remove Toxic Spikes and Stealth Rock so that Avalugg does not get whittled too low over the course of the match.
*Tangela, Mareanie, and Gourgeist-Super can be excellent partners for Avalugg as it they compliment Avalugg's weaknesses. Tangela is not in the tier. Specify what they check for Avalugg

Mention Fire-checks such as Pyukumuku and Silvally-Dragon.

[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Other Options
=============

*Earthquake can be used to catch Pokemon such as Probopass, Combusken, Raichu, and Simisear upon switch in as they all can take advantage of Avalugg. mention why it typically is not used.

Checks and Counters
===================

**Special Attacking Threats**: Due to Avalugg's poor base SpD, a majority of special attackers threaten Avalugg such as Combusken, and Electivire. Be more specific (can mention calcs)

**Super Effective Attacks**: Fire-, Fighting-, Steel-, and Rock-type moves can take down Avalugg. Give examples.

**Entry Hazards**: Avalugg is weak to all forms of hazards, Stealth Rock, Spikes, and Toxic Spikes are all detrimental to Avalugg in battle. Avalugg loses 1/4 of its HP every time it switches in on Stealth Rock. Second part is fluff so remove that. Instead, mention how it forces Avalugg to frequently use Recover and how it can be taken advantage of or pressured as a rocker.

**Status**: Burn and poison do not allow Avalugg's Sturdy to be intact. toxic poison prevents Avalugg from staying in for extended periods of time. Should be more detailed here, give examples of what this prevents Avalugg from doing (i.e checking Pokemon it usually checks)

*Maximum Hp and Defense investment alongside an Impish nature allows Avalugg to become the best physical wall it can be to take on Swords Dance users such as Pinsir, and Bouffalant.
*Sturdy is Avalugg's most optimal ability as it can never be OHKOed from full giving it the opportunity to Roar out a setup sweeper, or OHKO a threat with Avalanche, such as Dragon Dance Altaria, Shell Smash Crustle, or Quiver Dance Butterfree.
*Leftovers gives Avalugg passive recovery, while Rocky Helmet wears down physical attackers using contact moves such as Komala. Make a separate bullet for Rocky Helmet as it's relevant enough to warrant this. It deters physical attackers and can help with spreading chip damage since Avalugg is commonly used on more defense-oriented teams.

Usage Tips

========

*Switch-in Avalugg on physical attackers such as Pinsir, Komala, and Marowak as Avalugg can take their hits quite comfortably.
*Also directly switch in Avalugg on Stealth Rock users such as Sandslash, Marowak, and Gabite or other Stealth Rock setters that it can spin on and beat, however Avalugg must be wary as both Sandslash and Gabite carry Toxic and that is detrimental to Avalugg's longevity.

Therefore Avalugg will have to use Recover a considerable amount to ensure can keep its Sturdy intact, and in turn can be taken advantage of. I would just flat out say that Avalugg should try to conserve its Recover PP
*Avalugg is also able to throw out a Toxic into a predicted switch such as Gourgeist-Super on a predicted Rapid Spin, as well as Toxic stall a majority of physical attackers.
*Utilize Avalanche to 1v1 a foe going for a strong attack and in return OHKO it with Avalanche, such as a boosted Marowak going for a Stone Edge, Avalugg can survive the hit and OHKO it back with Avalanche.
*Use Roar to phase out setup sweepers such as Swords Dance Pinsir and Sivally-Fighting. In turn, Avalugg must be wary of being worn down, as it will not be able to survive a hit from these threats and phase them out.
*It is best to avoid burn from Pokemon such as Gourgeist-Super, as it will halve Avaluggs base 117 Attack stat and as well as toxic poison from Bronzor as that will weaken Avalugg significantly. Mention Specially Defensive Mareanie in its own sentence since they form a good defensive core with great type synergy.
*Altaria and Beheeyem can beat Ghost-types such as Gourgeist-Super and Dusknoir that attempt to act as a spin blocker to stop Avalugg from getting off a Rapid Spin.
*Defoggers such as Swanna, and Rotom-Fan can remove Toxic Spikes and Stealth Rock so that Avalugg does not get whittled too low over the course of the match.

It is generally not preferred, as Avalugg must forego using Toxic or Roar in the last slot, and the utility those two moves provide are preferred more.
Mention Gyro Ball here as well.

Checks and Counters

===================

**Special Attacking Threats**: Due to Avalugg's poor base SpD, a majority of special attackers threaten Avalugg such as Combusken, Simisear, Beheeyem, and Floatzel . All of these Pokemon have the ability to OHKO Avalugg. ( 252 SpA Combusken Focus Blast vs. 252 HP / 0 SpD Avalugg: 542-638 (137.5 - 161.9%) -- guaranteed OHKO) (252+ SpA Choice Specs Beheeyem Psychic vs. 252 HP / 0 SpD Avalugg: 433-511 (109.8 - 129.6%) -- guaranteed OHKO) (252 SpA Life Orb Floatzel Hydro Pump vs. 252 HP / 0 SpD Avalugg: 324-382 (82.2 - 96.9%) -- guaranteed 2HKO)

**Entry Hazards**: Avalugg is weak to all forms of hazards, Stealth Rock, Spikes, and Toxic Spikes are all detrimental to Avalugg in battle. This forces Avalugg to use Recover a considerable amount of times in order to keep it at as high HP as possible, thus Avalugg can easily be taken advantage of by offensive threats as they can switch in on a predicted Recover.

**Status**: Burn and poison do not allow Avalugg's Sturdy to be intact. Toxic poison prevents Avalugg from staying in for extended periods of time. Acquiring a toxic poison prevents Avalugg from indefinitely spinning on Stealth Rock setters, as well as checking certain Pokemon such as Swords Dance Pinsir and Silvally-Fighting as Avalugg will be worn down.

[OVERVIEW]

*With great physical bulk, reliable recovery, and access to Rapid Spin, Avalugg can find itself a niche role in the ZU tier. on what kind of teams?
*With a sky-high Defense stat Avalugg can stomach hits from a variety of physical attackers in the tier including Pinsir, Komala, and Marowak. For what its worth I see a lot of Toxic Komala nowadays, so I would specify a set that does not use Toxic such as Choice Band or Assault Vest Komala.
*Rapid Spin allows it to remove entry hazards for the team, and most notably immediately allowing Avalugg to spin on Stealth Rock users such as Sandslash, Marowak, and Gabite. restrucure this last to part to mention that Avalugg can spin on these Stealth Rock users because of its good matchup.
*However, Avalugg being a grounded pure Ice-type, is weak to entry all forms of entry hazards, and especially weak to Stealth Rock, thus not making it the best form of hazard removal in the tier as it does not beat certain hazard setters such as Mawile, Bronzor, and Golem carrying Explosion.
* In addition, it's extremely low Special Defense stat leaves it vulnerable to special attackers such as Combusken, Swanna, and Electivire.
*Avalugg also sports an extremely low speed stat and is also vulnerable to Taunt users such as Misdreavus, Floatzel, and Vigoroth. I don't necessarily think this is a bulletpoint worthy of staying in the Overview. While this is absolutely a true statement, Avalugg most notably fits on stall teams, which struggle against Taunt users as a whole due to their overreliance on non-attacking moves to function. Therefore, this bulletpoint portrays Avalugg unfairly imo.
*Avalugg faces tough competition as a form of hazard removal as options including Sandslash, and Komala as they are not weak to Stealth Rock and provide better role compression.
*Avalugg mainly fits on defensive teams and requires a considerable amount of support from its teammates, such as a special wall name one or two being able to take special hits for it.
*Lastly Avalugg's poor defensive typing does not provide it with any useful resistances and provides it with many weaknesses. This last statement is something you could infer just from it being a pure Ice-type, and shouldn't necessarily be stated in the Overview. Remove.

Somewhere in the Overview you need to state that Avalugg should not be the sole entry hazard remover on a stall team, but rather paired with a Defog user such as Altaria or Silvally-Dark. Also, since you are taking out the currently last sentence, you'll need to find a way to tie a nice bow on the Overview.

Moves

========

*Rapid Spin allows Avalugg to switch in on entry hazard users such as Sandslash, Gabite, and Marowak and remove them to support the team. Can you explain to me how Rapid Spin allows Avalugg to remove Sandslash/Gabite/Marowak from play. "them" in this sentence is extremely ambiguous. Also, Stealth Rock users are not the only Pokemon Avalugg has a good matchup against, namely Spikes Quiladin and Sticky Web users Smeargle and Shuckle.
*Recover allows Avalugg to continually stay healthy giving it longevity throughout the match to continuously check physical attackers like Pinsir, Bouffalant, and Marowak. Recover is one of the few examples in the Moves category that are fairly self-explanatory and are generally regarded as fluff. Go ahead and remove for now.
*Avalanche gives Avalugg an Ice-type STAB move, doubling in power if Avalugg is hit first in that turn to deal great damage to foes. This move has great synergy with Avalugg's slow base Speed and high base Attack.
*Toxic can be used to cripple switch-ins to Avalugg such as Gourgeist-Super, and Simisear, which provides more utility. Okay, I really like running Earthquake on Avalugg, which admittedly still deserves to be Other Options. However, can we change the Simisear example to Simipour?
*Roar allows Avalugg to phase out Pokemon that try to setup on it such as Silvally-Fighting, Pinsir, Shiftry, and Pawniard.

Set Details

========

*Maximum Hp and Defense investment alongside an Impish nature allows Avalugg to become the best physical wall it can be to take on Swords Dance users such as Pinsir, and Bouffalant. Not overly comfortable with the Bouffalant mention. Substitute blocks Toxic, and while it is extremely uncommon, Soundproof Bouffalant does exist, therefore blocking Roar. If you are looking for just about any example of a Pokemon that uses SD well, you probably wouldn't mind to replace this example.
Dragon Dance Altaria? Replace that with just normal Altaria. And Shell Smash Crustle? Wouldn't you just realistically switch into your Pyukumuku/Circle Throw Poliwrath? Not a good example either imo
*Leftovers gives Avalugg passive recovery, while Rocky Helmet wears down physical attackers using contact moves such as Komala.

Usage Tips

========

Specifically mention that Avalugg should switch in on the predicted Stealth Rock as to not take unnecessary chip damage. Also you praise Avalugg for checking Sandslash and Gabite well and now its afraid of Toxic. A bit of inconsistency with the rest of the analysis imo.
*It is best to keep Avalugg as healthy as possible throughout the match as it can continually check physical attackers and continually remove hazards when needed. Therefore Avalugg will have to use Recover a considerable amount to ensure can keep its Sturdy intact, and in turn can be taken advantage of. Avalugg keeping Sturdy isn't that important.
*Avalugg is also able to throw out a Toxic into a predicted switch such as Gourgeist-Super on a predicted Rapid Spin, as well as Toxic stall a majority of physical attackers. Why would Gourgeist-XL switch into Avalugg of all things?
*Utilize Avalanche to 1v1 a foe going for a strong attack and in return OHKO it with Avalanche, such as a boosted Marowak going for a Stone Edge, Avalugg can survive the hit and OHKO it back with Avalanche. Fluff, remove
*Use Roar, to phase out setup sweepers such as Swords Dance Pinsir and Sivally-Fighting. In turn Avalugg must be wary of being worn down, as it will not be able to survive a hit from these threats and phase them out. The last part of this bullet point doesn't make a whole lot of sense. Read it aloud to yourself, then rewrite it.
*It is best to avoid burn from Pokemon such as Gourgeist-Super, as it will halve Avaluggs base 117 Attack stat and as well as toxic poison from Bronzor as that will weaken Avalugg significantly. It is best to switch out Avalugg into Pokemon like Lickylicky who carry Cleric moves like Heal Bell, and provide Wish support. Gourgeist-XL never wants to trade a burn for being badly poisoned ever. Also, Avalugg being burned isn't a big deal at all.
*Avalugg must also avoid taking special hits as its poor special bulk will not allow it to take many special attacks from Combusken, Swanna, and Simisear. It is best to switch out Avalugg into Pokemon with special bulk such as? as they can take on these threats.

Team Options

========

* Special walls such as Bronzor, Kecleon, and Lickylicky can sponge special attacks that threaten Avalugg as it has poor SpD, as well as Avalugg can take physical hits for them. Lickylicky also provides Wish support and can serve as a cleric as it cariies Heal Bell.
I'm being very picky, but having two examples of Pokemon and having two examples of entry hazards means the first example goes with the first example and the second with the second. Swanna does indeed remove Toxic Spikes; however, because this Swanna is running Defog, I can infer that its the special Swanna set with Scald and Hurricane, which has a tough time breaking through the most common Toxic Spikes user, Mareanie.
*Silvally-Dragon, Gourgeist-Super, and Pyukumuku can be excellent partners for Avalugg as it they compliment Avalugg's weaknesses and can check Pokemon such Combusken, Simisear, Silvally-Water, Silvally-Fighting, and Floatzel. Which one of these examples check Simisear? Silvally-Dragon dies to +2 All Out Pummeling. Remove that Simisear from the list.

Checks and Counters

**Special Attacking Threats**: Due to Avalugg's poor base SpD, a majority of special attackers threaten Avalugg such as Combusken, Simisear, Beheeyem, and Floatzel . All of these Pokemon have the ability to OHKO Avalugg. ( 252 SpA Combusken Focus Blast vs. 252 HP / 0 SpD Avalugg: 542-638 (137.5 - 161.9%) -- guaranteed OHKO) (252+ SpA Choice Specs Beheeyem Psychic vs. 252 HP / 0 SpD Avalugg: 433-511 (109.8 - 129.6%) -- guaranteed OHKO) (252 SpA Life Orb Floatzel Hydro Pump vs. 252 HP / 0 SpD Avalugg: 324-382 (82.2 - 96.9%) -- guaranteed 2HKO)

You shouldn't ever put calcs into a smogdex analysis.

Burn really doesn't really effect Avalugg all that much, and Sturdy is overexaggerated in the entire analysis as being this all-important thing Avalugg must maintain, and its not.

[OVERVIEW]

With great physical bulk, reliable recovery, and access to Rapid Spin, Avalugg can find itself a niche role in the ZU tier on stall teams. A sky-high Defense stat Avalugg can stomach hits from a variety of physical attackers in the tier including Pinsir, Choice Band Komala, and Marowak Torterra (more relevant example rn). Rapid Spin allows it to remove entry hazards for the team, immediately allowing Avalugg to spin on certain Stealth Rock users such as Torterra, Sandslash, Marowak, and Gabite due to it having a great matchup vs them. Avalugg should be paired with another reliable hazard remover such as Altaria, or Silvally-Dark as Defog support can help minimize hazard stacking, against Avalugg. However, Avalugg being a grounded pure Ice-type, is weak to entry all forms of entry hazards, and especially weak to Stealth Rock, thus not making it the best form of hazard removal in the tier as it does not beat hazard setters such as Mawile, Bronzor, and Golem carrying Explosion. In addition, it's extremely low Special Defense stat leaves it vulnerable to special attackers such as Combusken, Swanna, and Electivire. Avalugg faces tough competition as a form of hazard removal as options including Sandslash, and Komala as they are not weak to Stealth Rock and provide better role compression. Lastly, Avalugg mainly fits on defensive teams and requires a considerable amount of support from its teammates, such as a special wall like Bronzor, being able to take special hits for it.

Rapid Spin allows Avalugg to switch in on hazard setters such as Torterra, Sandslash, Gabite, Smeargle, and Quilladin and can remove Stealth Rock, Spikes, and Sticky Web to support the team. Avalanche gives Avalugg an Ice-type STAB move, doubling in power if Avalugg is hit first in that turn to deal great damage to foes. This move has great synergy with Avalugg's slow base Speed and high base Attack. Toxic can be used to cripple switch-ins to Avalugg such as Gourgeist-Super, Combusken, and Simipour, which provides more utility. Roar allows Avalugg to phase out Pokemon that try to setup on it such as Silvally-Fighting, Pinsir, Shiftry, and Pawniard.

Set Details
========

Maximum Hp and Defense investment alongside an Impish nature allows Avalugg to become the best physical wall it can be to take on Swords Dance users such as Pinsir, and Leafeon. Sturdy is Avalugg's most optimal ability as it can never be OHKOed from full giving it the opportunity to Roar out a setup sweeper, or OHKO a threat with Avalanche, such as Altaria, or Marowak. Leftovers gives Avalugg passive recovery, while Rocky Helmet wears down physical attackers using contact moves such as Komala.

Usage Tips
========

Switch-in Avalugg on physical attackers such as Pinsir, Komala, Torterra, and Marowak as Avalugg can take their hits quite comfortably. Also directly switch in Avalugg on a predicted Stealth Rock from users such as Torterra, Sandslash, Marowak, and Gabite or other Stealth Rock setters that it can spin on and beat. It is best to keep Avalugg as healthy as possible throughout the match as it can continually check physical attackers and continually remove hazards when needed. Therefore Avalugg will have to use Recover a considerable amount, and in turn can be taken advantage of. Avalugg is also able to throw out a Toxic into a predicted switch into a threat, as well as Toxic stall a majority of physical attackers. Use Roar to phase out setup sweepers such as Swords Dance Pinsir and Sivally-Fighting. It is best to avoid Toxic poison from Bronzor as that will then put a timer on Avalugg. It is best to switch out Avalugg into Pokemon like Lickylicky who carry Cleric moves like Heal Bell, and provide Wish support. Avalugg must also avoid taking special hits as its poor special bulk will not allow it to take many special attacks from Combusken, Swanna, and Simisear. It is best to switch out Avalugg into Pokemon with special bulk such as Mareanie and Komala as they can take on Special attacking threats. Komala doesnt really fair well against any of these specific examples, use a different example such as Bronzor (for Swanna).

Team Options
========

Special walls such as Bronzor, Kecleon, and Lickylicky can sponge special attacks that threaten Avalugg as it has poor SpD, as well as Avalugg can take physical hits for them. Lickylicky also provides Wish support and can serve as a cleric as it cariies Heal Bell. Altaria and Beheeyem can beat Ghost-types such as Gourgeist-Super and Dusknoir that attempt to act as a spin blocker to stop Avalugg from getting off a Rapid Spin. Defoggers such as Rotom-Fan can remove Toxic Spikes and Stealth Rock so that Avalugg does not get whittled too low over the course of the match. Pokemon such as Mareanie and Muk can also absorb T-spikes. Silvally-Dragon, Gourgeist-Super, and Pyukumuku can be excellent partners for Avalugg as it they compliment Avalugg's weaknesses and can check Pokemon such Combusken, , Silvally-Water, Silvally-Fighting, and Floatzel.

**Status**: Toxic poison prevents Avalugg from staying in for extended periods of time. Acquiring poison prevents Avalugg from indefinitely spinning on Stealth Rock setters, as well as from checking certain Pokemon such as Swords Dance Pinsir and Silvally-Fighting, as Avalugg will be worn down.
