Avatar: The Legend of Korra first official trailer up

this is NOT a sequel to the travesty that was the M Night Shyamalan movie. rather, it's a animated series in the spirit of avatar: the last airbender.

Official trailer here

i make a lot of tv show and book topics >_> anyway, the animation looks amazing. the original writers and I think even The Track Team (soundtrack creators) will be back.

it would be awesome if they included a short little prologue attached to the first episode where they tie up some loose ends from avatar: tla, mainly zuko's mother

i don't care what the intended demographic is, the tla series are awesome. not even sure i would be able to fully appreciate everything if i was a kid

Well from what was shown it seems that fire bending is probably the most widely known and most used bending form in the series, or at least Korra's preferred style despite her being a water bending. Much like how even though Aang mastered water bending but never used it -- mainly because air or fire bending doesn't need a direct source.

It's cool to see a flying bison, probably aapa, but we will see if there's somehow more, though that wouldn't make sense unless aapa was a girl and reproduces asexually. I'm more than excited to see the anti-bending regime -- though I wouldn't understand why that group exists as supposedly anyone can learn bending. The biggest thing if anything this season (I guess you would call it??) is I want to see the extent of energy bending besides taking away other people's bending. I want to see how the writers take it, if at all. I'd assume Aang taught his child how to energy bend.

Either way I'm excited to see it, the action looks good and it should be pretty awesome to watch. No doubt that everyone in the world loves Aang, so I'm amazed that an anti-bending movement happened on top of that I'm amazed he did nothing to stop it.

I read somewhere that Aang found an island with more flying bison… deus ex machina? -_-

I like the premise of people against bending. Its logical because not everyone can bend even if they belong to any of the nations. I'd like to know if benders have become a majority, or perhaps a minority, or at least their status in society. Supernatural abilities could become nuisances, a la X-Men perhaps? Average humans fearing what these people with "magic" powers can do?

Something else I need to know: What's the deal with Zuko's mother?

Anyways, can't wait to see more Korra and more polar bear dog

EDIT: Hey, Zuko's mother was named "Ursa" which means "bear" which makes me wonder why the writers made Korra's pet half polar bear…

Really looking forward to the series love The Last Airbender.

I find it interesting Korra mainly uses Fire bending when its considered opposite to her natural waterbending.

I'm so fucking pumped for this. The last airbender was my pretty much my life between ages 15-17.

UGH. WHY AREN'T YOU RELEASED YET?

Haha, Aang and being proactive? Yeah right, bud. It took him ages to sort out the two tribes when getting across the great divide, he couldn't handle the villages that flat out ignored him and it took him ages to deal with the Fire Nation. The kid's a monk; he'd just let people do what they want.

I can't see the video ("unavailable from my location") so I'll pray that this is animated and not a shitty movie.

Anyway, I loved the series (I don't think anybody disliked it) so enjoy this news.

I can remember auramaster, I think, telling me that there was going to be another series in the same universe, and I can't wait. The first series was amazing, and I still break them out sometimes. Can someone describe the video for those of use who can't see it?

When I saw this thread title I thought it meant they were somehow making another of those awful live action ones... x_x

Instead, I'm all kinds of excited. I absolutely loved Avatar :D

This is just speculation, but I feel like Korra might've been a Fire Bender born within the Water Tribe or something. Seemed like she left on not-the-greatest terms. Obviously that goes against the fact that it looks like she's using Water Bending in the semi-silhouette, but who knows?

And the fact that a lot of the areas this takes place in look more urban is exciting. Clearly there's been some rebuilding since Aang did his thing.

And try this if you can't see the video. A cam version someone took at Comic Con, apparently.

It looks good, although the urban shift does look a bit weird. And I thought it would be some terrible sequal to that movie as well. The only question now is: why is it still 'The Last Airbender' if Aang does not feature, because I assume that he would be shown if here did.

How did i miss this?

Atheno, i say that Avatar: The Last Airbender is the title of the series, so they kind of have to keep it.

With that in mind, the movie only had The Last Airbender without Avatar, could this mean something...?

(Yes it could.)

The movie only got renamed because it came out around the time that "Avatar" did. Otherwise people who didn't know the Nickelodeon series would've been confused by "Avatar: The Last Airbender."

And based on how the Nickelodeon page is titling it, it's "Avatar: The Legend of Korra" and nothing to do with "The Last Airbender" anymore. So the thread title here is just sorta inaccurate.

hey man the last movie was shi--

wait animation??? ok this might be good

edit: who the fuck am i kidding its going to be amazing

omg I'm so fucking excited for this you have no idea

the original was so amazing and about the best thing to happen to television since I Love Lucy

I also love the story behind this one, I just hope that there will be supporting characters and not just Korra the whole series.

yeah it's pretty obvious that the fire nation dude is going with her (maybe sokka 2.0??)

im interested to see who's going to be the bad guy in this era, maybe a coup to overturn the order in avatarland????

oh and OP you should put a disclaimer that this isn't the sequel to the fucking shit ball that was M Night Shamlamadingdong's disaster of a movie

been waiting since the end of book 3 for legend of korra, so i'm definitely psyched. i actually hope they DONT resolve zuko's mother's subplot in this, as i would rather see as little of the prevuous characters as possible. i am going in expecting a fresh series, and i hope they deliver, because Avatar was the best action/drama-oriented western animated series i've seen since Justice League.

I'd heard about this before while on a TVTropes binge. Pity they're not using "avatar" anymore, as this again means people will consider this a sequel to what I have heard was the worst adaptation of an animated series to film ever.

While I'm not an active fan of the series (although I admit it's good, and I'm willing to watch the episodes on Nick.com,) the avatar cycle is basically air-water-earth-fire-just as Roku naturally started as a firebender and Aang naturally started as an airbender, Korra is naturally going to start as a waterbender. Chances are she just learned to firebend first.

As for the future thing...it's supposed to take place enough years after Aang's death that Korra would be born and grow up to her current age according to the art, and it's not unreasonable to assume that Fire Nation technology would have spread in peacetime.

Also, this encourages me to start watching the episodes again.

i'm going to put things that i dont like / will be wary of because there are so many things to love about avatar the last airbender

1. supporting characters - come on. how can you beat sokka and toph? those were the coolest characters ever! katara was mostly whiny, though. and once Zuko joins them <--- a spoiler that character is also a fuckin badass, as well as my favorite character from the series. also you can never beat the touching uncle / zuko moments, the inventors, or BOOMY. also i hope korra isnt like fucking katara.

2. polar bear? how is a polar bear going to get you places?? have fun traversing mountains and shit

3. the anti bending stuff....i don't know, i'm not quite sold. don't you have to do some bending stuff to do anti bending? or is it "energy bending", because that's just like...tai chi or whoever it was that hung out with azula (not mae, the other one). if it's like, controlling the person, that's blood bending. so i don't see that turning out well. also i can't see any evil main character topping azula, and when azula went insane at the end...excellent. the whole ba sing se arc was great, with the dai lee and his agents, that was really great.

i don't think it can top avatar tla but we'll see

oh and OP you should put a disclaimer that this isn't the sequel to the fucking shit ball that was M Night Shamlamadingdong's disaster of a movie

done and done. i went to the midnight premiere of the M Night Shyamalan movie because we had nothing better to do that night. it was hilariously bad, but the only way i would see a sequel is if i was completely drunk before stepping foot into the theatre.

also, added a youtube link to the OP for those who have the nicktoons site blocked in the country. i could've sworn when i first saw the trailer it said "TLA: The Legend of Korra" but i guess not. topic title edited. the drumming in the background in the second half of the trailer is extremely cool btw

Come on he's a kid and was the last of his kind.. he had almost no guidance during the entire fire nation crazy time. Aang would have for sure matured in his life, you even see him wearing the monk's sacred attire at the end of the season. You have to realize Aang was a kid and was missing for one hundred years, the people lost hope. And you don't respect someone you have no faith in.

with Korra who is the reincarnation of what could be considered the most famous avatar, she will command a lot more respect and take more of a leading roll than Aang. The anti-bending movement probably started after Aang dies, that's the most logical explanation I think

...I think it means "people who are AGAINST benders" rather than "people who perform energy bending."

Does someone who is anti-government usually take part in government?

I was looking at Wikipedia and apparently Korra learns air bending from Aang and Katara's kid. This got me in the mood to re-watch all the episodes again.
