Sorry for necro-ing this thread, but I have a rather peculiar request. My BD Azu team is extremely weak to SD Talon and I was wondering if there was an EV spread that can survive a hit after BD and SR (so 63%), while maintaining max attack, preventing Talon revenging me?

I'm running the standard set:

Azumarill @ Sitrus Berry
Ability: Huge Power
EVs: 88 HP / 252 Atk / 168 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Belly Drum
- Aqua Jet
- Knock Off
- Play Rough / Waterfall

This outspeeds min-Skarm but not Talon:

252 Atk Sharp Beak Talonflame Brave Bird vs. 88 HP / 0 Def Azumarill: 207-244 (57 - 67.2%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

But was thinking of the following:

Azumarill @ Sitrus Berry
Ability: Huge Power
EVs: 48 HP / 252 Atk / 80 Def / 124 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Belly Drum
- Aqua Jet
- Knock Off
- Play Rough / Waterfall

This lets it survive 100%:

252 Atk Sharp Beak Talonflame Brave Bird vs. 48 HP / 80 Def Azumarill: 187-222 (52.9 - 62.8%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

While also outspeeding min-speed Scizor. What I want to know is if outspeeding Skarm is that important, as it can't do anything to Azu?

I'm not sure if the above EVs are efficient, but it'd be really helpful to be able to beat the damned bird!

The problem with your second spread is that it gives Azumarill an odd HP number, so the Sitrus Berry won't activate after a Belly Drum at full health. I'd suggest 4 HP / 252 Atk / 112 Def / 140 Spe. It lets Azumarill survive a Sharp Beak Talonflame's Brave Bird after rocks, a Belly Drum, and Sitrus Berry(and using less EVs), gives it an even HP, and keeps max attack. The rest goes to Speed, although you can move some of them to HP/Def to take hits better. For example, a 4 HP / 252 Atk / 128 Def / 124 Spe spread(the same Speed as yours and 16 EVs moved from Speed to Defense) lets it almost always survive Mega Metagross' Meteor Mash after a Belly Drum and Sitrus Berry healing, so it can KO back with a +6 Knock Off/Waterfall:
252 Atk Tough Claws Mega Metagross Meteor Mash vs. 4 HP / 128 Def Azumarill: 220-259 (64.3 - 75.7%)
Stealth Rock turns this into a KO, though.

math

Max HP -> 342 HP
Stealth Rock damage -> 342/8 = 42.75(rounded down, so it's 42)
Belly Drum damage -> 342/2 = 171 HP
Sitrus Berry healing -> 342/4 = 85.5(rounded down, so 85)
So, after rocks damage, a BD, and Sitrus Berry healing, Azumarill has:
342 - 42 - 171 + 85 = 214 HP
And Talonflame's Brave Bird does 213 HP max:
252 Atk Sharp Beak Talonflame Brave Bird vs. 4 HP / 112 Def Azumarill: 180-213 (52.6 - 62.2%)

Skarmory tends to run Counter as it's only attacking move, so I wouldn't worry about being revenge killed. However, it will be able to Defog away your hazards before it goes down, or be able to get up Stealth Rock, or do something else (Toxic, Taunt?). If you're okay with that, you should be fine.

Yeah that's a good point, but I think being able to sort out Talon is enough to justify it. Is there anything else that runs 177 to outspeed min-Skarm? I can't think of anything that could trouble Azu off the top of my head.

Thanks a lot, that's a great start. Before using your spread, I just had a game where being able to survive a Celebi giga drain allowed me to BellyDrum early on, and gave me the match. Starting off with your spread, I messed about with the calculator to give me the following:

This maintains the even HP number, outspeeds 0-speed Scizor, and allows me to survive Talon 100% of the time:

252 Atk Sharp Beak Talonflame Brave Bird vs. 68 HP / 64 Def Azumarill: 190-225 (53 - 62.8%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

It gives Celebi a very slim chance of taking me down:

0 SpA Celebi Giga Drain vs. 68 HP / 0 SpD Azumarill: 194-230 (54.1 - 64.2%) -- guaranteed 2HKO (12.5% chance to KO after BellyDrum, Sitrus, and rocks)

It also gives me a 75% chance to survive Meteor Mash (before rocks):

252 Atk Tough Claws Mega Metagross Meteor Mash vs. 68 HP / 64 Def Azumarill: 237-279 (66.2 - 77.9%) -- guaranteed 2HKO (25% from 75% health)
