Balanced Team (OU)

Hey guys, I'm in the competative Pokémon world for a few months and I really need help with my team. I'm not really good at strategies and so on, so you can help me with that. So please give a comment and tell me the bad thing of my team, or the things I could improve. Thanks

In depth:

Exilion the Salamence
dpmba373.png

Salamence (M) @ Life Orb
EV: 232 Atk / 26 SpA / 252 Spe
Nature: Naughty
Ability: Intimidate
Moveset:
- Dragon Dance
- Dragon Claw
- Earthquake
- Fire Blast

My lead, a Salamence. Idea is pretty simple, Dragon Dance up or switch out if the opponent can Ice Beam me or something. If he stays in I can sweep with Dragon Claw, Earthquake or Fire Blast for taking down Steel leads. Life Orb is for some extra damage but I'm thinking of switching it to Focus Sash because Mence easily gets down by an Ice Beam or Blizzard.

Arania the Skarmory
dpmba227.png

Skarmory (F) @ Leftovers
EV: 252 HP / 64 Atk / 176 Def / 16 Spe
Nature: Impish
Ability: Keen Eye
Moveset:
- Stealth Rock
- Roar
- Drill Peck
- Roost

After Salamence got killed or I switched out, Skarmory is there for setting up Stealth Rock. Drill Peck is for STAB, I heal myself via Roost and if I want to get some damage on other Pokémon, or a Pokémon is starting Calm Mind, Swords Dance, Dragon Dance etc. I use Roar.

Aquamelt the Vaporeon
dpmba134.png

Vaporeon (M) @ Leftovers
EV: 188 HP / 252 Def / 68 Spe
Nature: Bold
Ability: Water Absorb
Moveset:
- Surf
- Ice Beam
- Wish
- Protect

My wisher, he can pass wishes to Pokémon to heal them or nullifies the effects of Spikes for my switches. Surf is a nice STAB move. Ice Beam can take out Dragons, or could do a lot of damage at least. I use Protect for keeping my Vaporeon healthy while Wishing. Vaporeon also lures out Electric attacks for my Electivire.

Lektroluv the Electivire
dpmba466.png

Electivire (M) @ Expert Belt
EV: 252 Atk / 252 Spe / 4 HP
Nature: Adamant
Ability: Motor Drive
Moveset:
- ThunderPunch
- Ice Punch
- Cross Chop
- Earthquake

After a Speed boost from Motor Drive, this beast goes crazy with his STAB ThunderPunch to take out fishes and birds. Ice Punch for Dragons or Grasses. Cross Chop is for Blissey and Darks and Earthquake for Fires and other things that are weak to Ground. Expert Belt for pumping up all those Super Effective moves.

ShadeQueen the Dusknoir
dpmba477.png

Dusknoir (F) @ Leftovers
EV: 252 HP / 252 Sp. Def / 4 Def
Nature: Careful
Ability: Pressure
Moveset:
- Will-o-Wisp
- Shadow Sneak
- ThunderPunch
- Pain Split

Well, the Special Wall of the team. I'm thinking of replacing it with a Aromatherapy Blissey by the way, and if I do that I'll replace Skarmory with Forretress. But yeah, Dusknoir can take Special hits very well. With Will-o-Wisp I burn the opponent and dealing some damage with Shadow Sneak or ThunderPunch. I heal myself via Pain Split.

5000 gHz the Porygon-Z
dpmba474.png

Porygon-Z @ Choice Scarf
EV: 252 SpA / 252 Spe / 4 Def
Nature: Modest
Ability: Download
Moveset:
- Tri Attack
- Thunderbolt
- Ice Beam
- Psychic

I really like Scarf-Z, most of the times he's faster so I can use my STAB move Tri Attack, or Thunderbolt, Ice Beam or Psychic. Just the one who's the most effective.

So guys, that was my team. Please give me some comments and critics about my team, I really need it. Thanks for reading.

Robinzzz.

I guess Ill be the first to rate your team. Overall You have a nice Balance of pokemon types, but using Salamence as a lead is way too risky, many of todays lead can either outspeed or survive salamences onslaught and cripple it, and salamence is really useful for late game sweeping, Your Skarmory might make better use of Shed shell since Magnezones usage seems to be steadily increasing and losing your main physical wall so early can spell disaster, Electivires Physical set is good but the Mixset is Harder to wall so you should consider it. Vaporeon and Dusknoir seem solid as for Porygon Z Psychic would be better replace by shadow ball or dark pulse which provide better coverage, although u probably want a strong attack against fighting types.

Yes, Skarmory would be a better lead as to - setting up Stealth Rock right away and start roaring away or just switch right after you set up rocks. And may I also reccomend a Spinner? :toast:

Porygon-Z should be using a Timid nature instead of a Modest Nature. The Timid nature allows it to be an effective revenge killer, outrunning Pokemon such as Jolly Gyarados after they have Dragon Danced. Porygon-Z already has plenty of power even without a Modest nature. The extra Speed will allow Porgon-Z to revenge kill more threats. Psychic is a bad attacking type in OU as it really does not offer any coverage. It allows Tyranitar to come in freely in on Porygon-Z and kill it with Pursuit. Instead, you can try Trick over Psychic to allow Porygon-Z to cripple Pokemon that like switching-in on it such as Blissey. You could even try something such as Hidden Power Fighting to get a super effective hit on Heatran and Tyranitar, common switch-ins to Porygon-Z.

I'm going to suggest that you make Electivire a mixed sweeper if you intend on using him. I say this for a couple of reasons. Thnk about what Pokemon tend to switch-in on Electivire often. Those Pokemon are Hippowdon, Forretress, Donphan, Celebi, Bronzong, etc. All of those Pokemon tend to invest on more Physical Defense than Special Defense. This means that you can hit them harder with your Special Attacks if you make Electivire a mixed sweeper. In addition to that, Electivire will be able to weaken Physical Walls such as Skarmory and Hippowdon, allowing your Choice Band Flygon to break through said Physical Walls easier. So for Electivire,I suggest using ThunderBolt, Flamethrower, Cross Chop, Hidden Power Ice, 36 Atk / 252 SpA / 220 Spe, Mild, Expert Belt. Electivire's main STAB move of Thunderbolt allows it to do significant damage to many of physical Electivire's counters such as the above mentioned Pokemon. Flamethrower deals with Steel-types such as Scizor and Grass-types such as Celebi. Hidden Power Ice is for Pokemon such as Gliscor, Dragonite, and Salamence. Cross Chop allows Electivire to beat what its special attacks cannot overcome such as the Special Defense behemoth Blissey. Cross Chop also beats Snorlax and Tyranitar.

As dliras87 pointed out, Salamence is best used as a late game sweeper than as a lead. The vast majority of leads such as Jirachi , Swampert, Metagross etc, are bulky enough to not be OHKOed by any of Salamence's attacks while they can set up Stealth Rock and hit you back hard with the proper move. In addition to that, some leads tend to use Focus Sash meaning that Pokemon such as Azelf will always beat you. If you Dragon Dance it will Stealth Rock and then survive your next attack with Focus Sash and Explode on you. If you attack right off the bat, it will still set up Stealth Rock and then Explode. Salamence is a valuable member of your team, and you should keep it alive until the late game where it shines best.

What you could try out is replacing Skarmory with Metagross and using Metagross as your lead. This team seems more offensive then defensive and Metagross fits the offensive position more effectively than Skarmory. Metagross is durable, can set up SR, makes for an effective lead that is capabale of taking on most leads being used. Metagross also has great synergy with Salamence, such as Skarmory did. A simple set of Stealth Rock/Bullet Punch/Explosion/Earthquake, Occa Berry, Adamant, 252 HP / 236 Atk / 12 Def / 8 Spe should work. Occa Berry allows Metagross to take on Infernape and Heatran and kill them with Earthquake as you will survive their Fire attacks. SR for support, EQ for Fire-types and to add the coverage with Bullet Punch. Bullet Punch is for priority and STAB while Explosion lets you hit most Pokemon for extremely hard damage, killing them most of the time.

With Salamence as the late game sweeper, you can try Outrage over Dragon Claw. Outrage is Salamence's new gift it received in Platinum and what a gift it is. After a DD, Salamence will be 2HKOing most things with Outrage, something that Dragon Claw fails to do. Last suggestion I have is to possibly try a Rotom-h over Dusknoir. Rotom-h has better resistances, a ground immunity, and an immunity to Toxic Spikes and Spikes, which allows Rotom-h to live longer than Dusknoir. Rotom-h has better Speed, a better movepool, and better statusing options. You could try a set of Will-O-Wisp, ThunderBolt, Shadow Ball, Reflect, 252 HP / 168 Def / 88 Spe. Reflect can help Salamence set up some DD's. Will-O-Wisp allows Rotom to cripple Tyranitar switch-ins and other Physical sweepers. ThunderBolt and Shadow Ball for STAB and Evs to give Rotom some durability.

This is what I think:

Salamence- the moveset is good, yet as a lead might depend since the one you have it is more suited around the middle or near the end of the battle, alternative is making skarmory the lead, since you can set up your stealth rock and be able to dish out some samage early from your opponent switching, and can help a lot during the battle, and focus sash might not help on a set like this, since it is a bit buky to survive most common attacks, and focus sash might not always work, so yache berry might be a better substitute, since most will pack ice attacks that will KO salamence, but with the berry, and after one DD, you might be able to do smething about it in return if you still like to make it lead.

Skarmory- The moveset is fine, but you could replace drill peck for brave bird, since it would be able to do some decent damage, especially if stealth rock had hurt them early on and they are pretty hurt, and roost can pretty much recover the recoil.

Vaporeon- Looks good.

Electivire- Looks good.

Dusknoir- It is possible to replace it for blissey if you like yet wouldn't recommend switching skarmory for forretress, since it can easily be blown away by fire, and might be too slow to react, and bronzong might do a better job at it, yet I think dusknoir & skarmory will do just fine, yet would be best to replace shadow sneak for fire punch, since shadow sneak might get a stab, yet the damage in overall when it doesn't get a super effective is weaker than fire punch, and yet most that can hurt you with a super effective, but are hurt by shadow sneak are mostly special user, and fire punch would help against pokemons like heracross or scizor that can cause a problem, if you are running out of options.

Porygon-Z- moveset is fine, might be best to replace psychic for dark pulse since it has better type coverage, and has a nice flinching effect that suits a choice scarf user. Tri Attack should be good enough to use against fighting types.

I hope this helped :)

having a timid porygon is a big mistake try attack is one of the best move you can have with him so i would advice you not to have any nature that lowers his attack
