Draft Basculegion

Not open for further replies.
**Draft Order**: Round 4 onwards

**Price Range**: 10-11 points

**Overview**:Both Basculegion formes are strong wallbreakers and solid late-game sweepers, most commonly used when supported by rain thanks to solid STAB attacks like Hydro Pump and Wave Crash. However, Adaptability allows them to become threatening attackers even without rain support. Picking Basculegion formes provides the drafter flexibility; Basculegion-F excels in matchups where Special Attack is preferred and against Ghost-weak teams, while Basculegion-M excels in matchups where Wave Crash is very spammable. Both formes' middling Speed outside of rain does mean they require specific support from their teammates to truly excel. Furthermore, they find themselves competing with other, faster rain sweepers and wallbreakers, which means that they're rarely your first choice for either of their roles.

Common Roles
========
**Swift Swim Sweeper**: Both Basculegion formes become extremely hard-hitting threats under rain, outspeeding the entire unboosted metagame and a good portion of the boosted metagame as well. With their high-powered Water-type STAB moves further boosted by the rain, they can threaten OHKOs or punch holes for their teammates.

**Wallbreaker**: Both Basculegion formes' access to Adaptability, combined with their high-Base Power STAB moves, can make for a potent wallbreaker. Using a Choice or damage-boosting item enhances their wallbreaking potential further. They also have access to Flip Turn, allowing them to retain momentum for their teammates and dent physical walls switching in.

Common Moves
========
**Primary STAB Moves**: Wave Crash, Hydro Pump, Liquidation, Shadow Ball, Phantom Force, Aqua Jet, Surf

**Setup Moves**: Agility

**Utility Moves**: Flip Turn, Substitute, Pain Split

**Coverage**: Crunch, Head Smash, Ice Beam, Ice Fang, Psychic Fangs, Tera Blast

Niche Moves
========
**Rain Dance**: Rain Dance allows both Basculegion formes to set up rain in a pinch, enabling it them to outspeed the entire unboosted metagame and punch holes for their teammates.

Common Items
========
**Choice Band / Choice Specs**: Both Choice Band and Choice Specs are commonly used to amplify both Basculegion formes' wallbreaking potential to even further heights.

**Choice Scarf**: Choice Scarf is more commonly used when both Basculegion formes are not paired with weather to shore up their middling Speed. This allows them to act as revenge killers or late-game sweepers without needing a turn to set up.

**Damage-boosting Items**: Damage-boosting items are more commonly run when Basculegion's formes want to switch their moves but still retain the power to punch holes or sweep through an opposing team.

Niche Items
========
**Resistance Berries**: One-time resistance Berries can be used to take a super effective attack and, in return, set up or take out the foe.

**Heavy-Duty Boots**: Heavy-Duty Boots can be run in matchups where Basculegion's formes are expected to come in frequently and do not benefit from a damage boost.

Tera
========
Both Basculegion formes are solid Tera users. Offensive Tera types such as Tera Water and Ghost boost their STAB moves to even more frightening amounts of damage, and Tera Ghost also gives Basculegion-M access to a physical Ghost-type STAB move in Tera Blast. On the other hand, Tera Electric and Fighting allow both Basculegion formes to muscle past natural defensive answers, such as bulky Water- and Dark-types, respectively. Adaptability also works well with Tera, giving Basculegion's formes an extra punch on their new type. However, this does mean they lose the Adaptability boost on their original typings. The major drawback of using Tera with Basculegion's formes is that it locks you out of selecting a top-tier Tera Captain, which usually benefits from Tera far more than Basculegion's formes would.

Draft Strategy
========
Both Basculegion formes are solid wallbreakers with options to pivot for their team. They are most commonly seen on rain teams, as that allows them to make full use of their kits. This means you should not draft them without dedicated team support, as they need it to fully function.

**Rain Setters**: Basculegion's formes are best utilized with teammates to set up rain for them. This allows them to be used to their full potential, as rain both shores up their middling Speed and boosts their Water-type STAB moves even further. Pelipper is the most common teammate here, as it doesn't need a turn to set rain.

**Late-game Cleaners**: Both Basculegion formes excel at punching holes for their teammates, so a teammate that can make solid use of this is often appreciated. Furthermore, you can reverse these roles by having this teammate punch holes for Basculegion's formes to exploit. Iron Valiant, Darkrai, and Serperior all appreciate both Basculegion formes' ability to punch holes for them.

**Slow Pivots**: Basculegion's formes' middling bulk means they do not like hard-switching into moves. Thus, a slow pivot that can bring it them in safely is much appreciated. Scizor, Corviknight, and Iron Hands all help Basculegion's formes in one way or another.

**Entry Hazard Control**: Both Basculegion formes appreciate strong entry hazard control from their teammates. Considering they tend to take some recoil damage or hits when they come in, having strong hazard control ensures a bit more longevity, allowing them to do their job without being locked into running Heavy-Duty Boots. Great Tusk, Corviknight, and Cyclizar all help out with this, with Great Tusk threatening the Dark-types that naturally beat Basculegion's formes.

**Defensive Teammates**: Basculegion's formes basically provide no defensive utility, barring their Ghost typing allowing them to switch into Fighting-type moves. This means that other teammates should pick up the slack. Those teammates are especially useful if they can compress the roles that both Basculegion formes need to function. Great Tusk, Corviknight, and Archuladon all are great defensive teammates that help Basculegion's formes function.

Checks and Counters
========
**Strong Priority Users**: Both Basculegion formes are vulnerable to several forms of priority, including Sucker Punch from Kingambit and Meowscarada, Grassy Glide from Rillaboom, and Thunderclap from Raging Bolt.

**Faster Pokemon**: Be it Choice Scarf users when Basculegion's formes are in rain or threatening wallbreakers out of rain, neither forme is exactly the bulkiest of Pokemon. This means that they are vulnerable to getting OHKOed by foes that are faster than them. Choice Scarf Darkrai and Choice Scarf Weavile both outspeed Basculegion's formes in rain, and Urshifu-S and Kyurem both outspeed them out of rain.

** Water-resistant Pokemon**: Basculegion-M struggles to hit Water-resistant foes due to its lack of secondary STAB moves and solid coverage. This means that bulky Water-types can attempt to halt it in its tracks. Empoleon, Rotom-W, and Ogerpon-W all can act as solid defensive options.

**Draft Order**: Round 4 and onwards

**Price Range**: 10-1211 points

**Overview**: Basculegion is a strong wall breaker and solid late-game sweeper. Most commonly used when supported by Rain it is far less one-dimensional than one might think. Adaptability allows it to become a threatening attacker even without the support of rain thanks to solid STAB attacks like Hydro Pump and Wave Crash. The gender difference also helps Basculegion as you can run both a physical and special attacker. I'd mention that Female is preferred in matchups where special attacks excel, especially against Ghost weak teams as its Phys ghost coverage sucks, and that Male is great when Wave Crash is spammable. It's middling speed outside of rain does mean it requires specific support from its teammates to truly excel. Furthermore, it finds itself competing with other, faster rain sweepers and breakers, who are naturally much faster, which means that it's rarely your first choice for either of its roles.

**Rain Dance**: Rain Dance allows Basculegion to set up weather in a pinch. Allowing it to outspeed the entire unboosted metagame and punch holes for its teammates.

Common Items
========
**Choice Band/Choice Specs**: Both of these items are commonly used on Basculegion to amplify its breaking potential to even further heights. These items will support whatever Basculegion wants to do in and out of weather.

**Choice Scarf**: Choice Scarf is more commonly used when Basculegion is not paired with weather to shore up its middling speed stat. This allows it to act as a revenge killer or late-game sweeper without needing a turn to set up.

**Heavy-Duty Boots**: Heavy-Duty Boots can be ran in matchups where Basculegion is expected to come in a lot. and would not benefit from a damage boost otherwise.

Tera
========
Basculegion is a pretty solid Tera user. Offensive tera such as water and ghost to boost its stab to even more freighting amounts of damage. make mention of added coverage such as electric/fighting to break through its natural checks Defensive tera such as Fairy and Steel can give Basculegion a free turn to setup. Adaptability also works well when it comes to tera. Giving giving you an extra punch on your new type if you intend on using that as attacking moves. Its major drawback is that it locks you out of selecting a high tier Tera Captain, which would ususally benefit from Tera far more than Basculegion would.

you need a short summary here, see some other analyses for ideas
**Rain Setters**: Basculegion is best utilized on a team that has other teammates to set up rain for it. This allows it to be used to its full potential. Pelliper is the most common teammate here.

**Late-Game Cleaners**: Basculegion excels at punching holes for its teammates. So a teammate that can make solid use out of this is often appreciated. Furthermore, you can reverse these roles having this teammate punch holes for Basculegion to exploit. Iron Valiant, Iron Moth and Serperior all appreciate Basculegion's ability to punch holes for them.

**Slow Pivots**: Basculegion middling bulk means it does not like hard switching into moves. The a slow pivot that can bring it in safely is much appreciated. Galarian-Slowking, Corviknight and Iron Hands all help Basculegion one way or another.

mention a defensive backbone as legion provides none whatsoever, it also appreciates hazard control so that it isnt forced into running boots

Checks and Counters
========
**Strong Priority Users**: A weakness to Sucker Punch, means that Basculegion has to carefully maneuver around it. While a single non-stab sucker punch might not kill it does allow great threats onto the field to revenge kill or set up in its face due to having to respect Sucker Punch. Kingambit and Meowscarda are solid examples. Furthermore, Rillaboom and Raging Bolt do about the same thing, having super effective priority moves that each respectively hit Basculegion for a lot.

**Fast Scarfers**: Fast Scarfers can outspeed Basculegion even with weather support allowing them to kill Basculegion before it can do anything or force it to run a speed-boosting nature, somewhat weakening Basculegion just by existing. Darkrai and Weaville both come to mind.

**Faster Pokemon**: Outside of rain Basculegion suffers from a very middling speed-stat, meaning it is very prone to getting killed by things even slightly faster. Rotom-Wash, Kyurem and Urshifu-Single Strike are all very threatening wall breakers that are faster than Basculegion.

QC 1/2 - I'd prolly try flesh out sentences, this reads very bullet pointy right now, making it hard for the reader to fully grasp what you're saying. Sol might do that himself in GP but no harm in helping. If QC2 shifts this away from a Rain focus, that's also fine

The gender difference also helps Basculegion as you can run both a physical and special attacker. autumn said to delete this Basculegion also has flexibility with its formes, Where female Basculegion excels in matchups where special attack is preferred or against Ghost-weak teams, as Basculegions physical Ghost stab is basically non-existent. The male version on the other hand excels in matchups where Wave-Crash is very spamable. Its middling speed outside of rain does mean it requires specific support from its teammates to truly excel. Furthermore, it finds itself competing with other, faster rain sweepers and breakers, who are naturally much faster, which means that it's rarely your first choice for either of its roles.

Tera
========
Basculegion is a solid Tera user. Offensive tera such as water and ghost to boost its stab to even more freighting amounts of damage, and Tera Ghost gives Basculegion-M access to a physical Ghost-type Tera Blast. On the other hand Tera Electric and Fighting allow Basculegion to muscle past natural defensive answers examples (even just archetypes) are helpful for this point. Defensive tera such as Fairy and Steel can give Basculegion a free turn to setup. not relevant enough in my eyes, "setting up" is not often a priority with basculegion Adaptability also works well when it comes to tera giving you an extra punch on your new type if you intend on using that as attacking moves. note the loss of the adapt boost on its original stabs Its major drawback is that it locks you out of selecting a high top tier Tera Captain prefer that phrasing since you can still get a 15 point tera cap with it, just not a max points one, which would usually benefit from Tera far more than Basculegion would.

Draft Strategy
========
Basculegion is a solid wall breaker with options to pivot for its team. It is most commonly seen on rain teams as that allows it to make full use of its kit. This means you should not draft it without dedicated team support, as it needs those to function to its value.

Pelliper is the most common teammate here as it doesn't need a turn to set rain.

**Late-Game Cleaners**: Basculegion excels at punching holes for its teammates. So a teammate that can make solid use out of this is often appreciated. Furthermore, you can reverse these roles having this teammate punch holes for Basculegion to exploit. Iron Valiant, Iron Moth poor choice for rain, pokemon listed here don't have to necessarily be obvious fits on rain, but there shouldn't be anti-synergy and Serperior all appreciate Basculegion's ability to punch holes for them.

**Slow Pivots**: Basculegion middling bulk means it does not like hard switching into moves. The a slow pivot that can bring it in safely is much appreciated. Galarian-Slowking, bad choice when you're not drafting this thing outside of rain, come up with another one Corviknight and Iron Hands all help Basculegion one way or another.

**Hazard Control**: Basculegion appreciates strong hazard control on from its teammates. Considering it tends to take some recoil damage or hits when it comes it, having strong hazard control ensures a bit more longevity allowing Basculegion to do its job without being locked into running Heavy-Duty Boots. Great Tusk, Corviknight and Cyclizar all help out with this, with Great Tusk threatening the dark types that naturally beat Basculegion.

**Defensive teammates**: Basculegion basically provides no defensive utility barring its ghost typing allowing it to switch into fighting moves. This means that other teammates should pick up the slack. Those teammates are especially useful if they can compress the roles that Basculegion needs to function. Great Tusk, Galarian-Slowking same as above and Archuladon all form great defensive teammates that help Basculegion function.

Checks and Counters

**Strong Priority Users**: A weakness to Sucker Punch, means that Basculegion has to carefully maneuver around it. While a single non-stab sucker punch might not kill it does allow great threats onto the field to revenge kill or set up in its face due to having to respect Sucker Punch. Kingambit and Meowscarda are solid examples. Furthermore, Rillaboom and Raging Bolt do about the same thing, having super effective priority moves that each respectively hit Basculegion for a lot. entirely fluff Basculegion is vulnerable to several forms of priority, including Sucker Punch from Kingambit and Meowscarada, Grassy Glide from Rillaboom, and Thunderclap from Raging Bolt.

Rotom-Wash, Kyurem and Urshifu-Single Strike are all very threatening wall breakers rotom-w is not my first choice of a "wallbreaker" that are faster than Basculegion.

These last two paragraphs effectively say the same thing twice, they can at least be combined.

everything here is offensive counterplay, which is fine tbh given its low speed without swift swim and extreme power behind its moves, but there are more weaknesses to be mentioned. water resists should be a bullet point, especially mentioning basculegion-m's lack of secondary stab + middling coverage

qc 2/2. this is a gp nightmare though so attempting to clean it up before gp takes a look would be helpful.

Had to do significant rewriting and restructuring in this one; standards don't permit "Basculegion" to be a catch-all for both its formes. Highly recommend using the reply method to implement this.
