Not what I had intended, but I'm fairly confident that having used up all available recoveries constitutes a situation where the move will completely fail. Pretty much in the exact same way as Heal Block which the DAT specifically mentions. Or I could be wrong and the eggs die, not too sure honestly.

I don't think that using up all your recoveries constitutes the same effect as being Disabled, Tormented, etc. The number of recoveries you have is not subject to change based on your opponent's actions, whereas your state of being Disabled/Taunted/Tormented undoubtedly is.

EDIT: And addressing Heal Block as well. Like what I said above, Heal Block is something that your opponent does, not something that is preset in the battle rules themselves.
 
Yeah you're probably right. It becomes hard to ref contention in here when you end up becoming invested as a battler.
