Pokemon Attitude: Hazel is a very sassy and mischievous pokemon. She likes to play practical jokes at the expense of others, and very often can go a bit too far.
Pokemon Background: Hazel has always been a thief, not to obtain things but more to cause minor inconvenience to others. Often stealing things like a single sock, a can opener, or a key to a lock. Hazel is always snatching items from passers by.

Galega is native to Kalos, and at some point after the two of you had reunited, he mentioned a small village he had heard about slightly north of Dedemille Town, hidden in the forests along the way to Frost Cavern. Apparently this village contains a secret that can drastically increase the battling power of select Pokemon, and Hazel qualifies! As such, you head north from Dedemille town together, forging a path through the snow once you've left the beaten trail.

It's a good thing Galega is always carefully watching where he's going, or else you might not have noticed the sudden drop before you went down it! A vast chasm blocks your way, and if you squint you think you can make out water at the bottom of it. Probably not worth jumping and hoping for the best. Maybe the village was in a different direction? You prepare to turn and walk along the chasm, when you glimpse a man with blue hair vanishing into the trees on the other side! That looks like as sure a sign as you'll get about where the village is.

Hazel forcibly lifts the river below up to where you are, and Galega surfs you all across it! Almost like Gogoat have been bred for centuries just to give people rides or something. It's a good thing there's no chance that by asking him to do this for you you are reinforcing his fate as determined purely by virtue of his species!

You disembark on the other side of the river, and remembering where you saw the blue haired man vanish, you look for tracks. It's a good thing the snow is so deep, as you're able to follow his footprints up until he joins a well-established trail with packed snow. You might not be able to tail him anymore, but you've got something even better — a cleared path directly to the village!

As you walk into the village, you pause to take in the sights. You don't see anyone with blue hair, oddly enough, but there are plenty of small buildings that seem to be houses and a few larger buildings that are probably stores, all centered on a lake in the middle of the town. Lacking a better plan, you walk lakeward, and before too long someone stops you. You give them your name and your quest, and the person tells you to wait where you are as they find who you're looking for. You sit in the snow, your Pokemon huddling with you for warmth, and eventually a new person walks up to you.

"Welcome to our town. I am Pam, one of the keepers of the secret technique. You'll forgive me for the delay, we've recently had some issues with people trying to steal from us."

You assure Pam you would never do such a thing, and want to train in the village to learn their technique in a respectful manner.

She trusts that you aren't one of these thieves since you announced your presence and agreed to the trial match, but people who do as you did are rare. Apparently two days ago a Pokemon that seemed to be acting entirely of its own accord tried to take it!

"The good news is, part of our trial is an endurance challenge, and no thief has yet been able to complete it."

Arriving at the lake, you see that despite the temperature, it isn't frozen over. And down at the bottom, something glints in the light.

"Go ahead and get it out! This is your next test."

It's far too cold to go for a dive without getting hypothermia, and the lake looks deep enough that you don't think you can just nudge the artifact with a branch. How will you retrieve it?
