Background: While most of Keriel's Pokemon are artificial, arcane constructs created to shape the Mage's will into a form suitable to these lands, the Harbingers' divine essence is not something he can replicate. The Northern Gale finds itself at home in the tundra where he resides, far away from most of those it deems not worth its time... but it can be reluctant to leave for other adventures.
Merit: Revered by many humans, as one of the divine birds.
Demerit: Sees itself as above such things as negotiation.

Background: Golemancy is a difficult science; not so much in theory, even - it's not hard to ensoul an object - but to make the soul animate, to give it something to do instead of merely being trapped in a shell, is much more challenging. Still, being able to often possess his creations has its advantages for this sort of research. Having heard of electric constructs like Voltorb and Porygon, Keriel thought to see if he could replicate their mechanisms, and after having a crate of mundane appliances shipped to his tower at great expense, created miniaturized versions so that he could bring them with him to bind the new spirit to as necessary.
Merit: Miniaturized! Good for scouting and getting into places it shouldn't be.
Demerit: Gets restless if in a form for too long, and may abandon tasks it's bored with to try something different.

The Ransei Region is in a state of peace. After the events of Conquest, posterity has been granted to the people of the land, and joy can be heard and felt in every soul. The breeze is pleasant, the waters calm, and the politics are... well, lets not worry about all that. What is for sure is both Man and Mon are able to thrive in recent days. The Ransei region is so attractive that tourists now frequent all the time! We go now to a young trainer who has been in the region for the span of 3 weeks, on a journey of discovery and strength.

The Trainer Keriel has made quite the name for themselves in the Ransei region, and they are on the way to the capital to meet with very important individuals. A wooden carriage travels first through the countryside, then, through winding roads and mountainous terrain. The heavy Mudsdale generates some angst among the passengers of the carriage, as the path is narrow and not reinforced in any way, but it seems to be holding. The day is peaceful yet again, bordering on dull. Flying pokemon in the sky, ranches and towns scattered across the plains to the left, rocky terrain and pillars of black smoke ahead... wait... pillars of black smoke!?

"STOP!!" The carriage driver says, and Mudsdale makes a sudden halt. The small group dismounts and exits the carriage to investigate the anomaly. The pillar seems to be caused by a fire! The blaze itself is at the end of its life, and burns weakly, but the damage it left behind is burnt tree trunks, and other piles of unidentifiable objects, charred and ruined. The carriage driver, very confused, starts to approach the wreckage. As he takes a few steps forwards, a WOOOSHHH blows all the soot and ash towards the party! Everyone, including the Mudsdale, is covered in black tar and soot. Some are coughing, some trying to wipe their eyes, and everyone's vision obscured. Keriel's senses are sharp, and they feel a heat growing along with the whirlwind of black ash. Is the fire spreading again? Is there a mystery foe trying to ambush them? How long can they stay in the radius of ash until they run out of oxygen? Keriel must act fast, for everyone else is stunned by the sudden events!

Roleplay Segment Details:

Roleplay Segments precede each battle. They give the ref a chance to flex their creative muscles and create an overarching story for the challenge to follow. The exact procedure for a Roleplay Segment is as follows:

Using minimum 1 paragraph, the ref should describe the setting and situation, then present the challenger with an obstacle. The obstacle should generally match what the ref rolled on the Event chart, but the specifics are up to the ref's discretion. (For example, the Event chart might dictate that a large object blocks the challenger's path. Whether that object is a fallen tree, a sleeping Snorlax, an invisible forcefield, or anything else is up to the Ref's imagination.)

After the ref posts their piece, the challenger must respond to that obstacle by using their own Pokemon. The challenger's response is valid if it meets the following criteria:
The response must be at least 1 paragraph in length.
The challenger's team must react to the obstacle.
Each Pokemon must contribute at least one (1) thing from the following list:
A move it knows.
Its Ability.
Its Pokedex entry (from any of the official Pokemon games).
Its biology (from Bulbapedia).
Its Background.
Its Merit.
Its Demerit.
For each Pokemon, at least one (1) of the things that it contributes must be new within that challenge. (For example, if a Pokemon used Water Gun on a previous Roleplay Segment, then Water Gun on its own will not be a valid contribution for the next Roleplay Segment.)
The challenger and their Pokemon must stick together as a group.
Note that the challenger's team must react to the obstacle, but they need not overcome it. For example, suppose the obstacle in one RP Segment is a steep chasm that the challenger needs to cross. The challenger sees that one of their Pokemon has the Demerit of "being scared of heights." In their response, the challenger writes that their Pokemon becomes anxious and refuses to cross the chasm. Even though it does not resolve the problem put before the challenger, this response is valid because it describes a valid reaction to the obstacle.

The Mage holds a gem out, channeling water into it - and through the Essence of Animation, a flood of water drenches the area, smothering the remaining embers - heedless for any damage the water itself might have done. (Hydro Pump) Still, the Mage seeks to get his bearings; fire or not, he can't fight what he can't see, and it will take some time - so for now, he stays back, avoiding any steam that might have been called up as the fire is forcibly extinguished.
Unbidden, the Harbinger of the Northern Gale soars overhead, the smoke an affront to Its sensibilities; a chill wind flows through the air, as the smoke clears. (Defog) It will remain soaring until it can be sure that nothing else will encroach upon Its skies.

Each Pokemon must contribute at least one (1) thing from the following list:
A move it knows. :rotom-wash: Hydro Pump / :articuno: Defog
Keriel receives +2 RPT

Volcarona is going to emerge from above, using the pokedex entry:
When volcanic ash darkened the atmosphere, it is said that Volcarona’s fire provided a replacement for the sun.

The Teamwork is astounding! Keriel's team reacts quickly, and snuffs out the remnants of the ash and flame-scarred area. With the soot blown from the area, the handful of passengers, along with the carriage leader and his Mudsdale, all breathe easier - literally! Some of the passengers remove their hands from their pokeballs, disengaging from the situation that seems to be resolved. Others look above, mesmerized by the majestic bird soaring overhead.

"Thank you, trainer!"A young buy runs up, an excited glint in his eyes, "I've never seen these Pokemon before!" He looks awestruck, turning attention away from the Harbinger of the Northern Gale to the Essence of Animation. Keriel doesn't see any pokeballs on the excited young boy's belt.

The brief moment is interrupted by a "SCREEEEE" from overhead. The watchful Articuno seems to have seen something! All attention is turned above, and too everyone's surprise, the newly cleared skies are getting covered in a black soot again! This time, its coming from all around them, not just from the area in front. First, in slow pulses, then, all at once, smoke billows out from bellow and races upwards. Contrary to the first time, the ash is rising vertically, instead of coating the surrounding area. Its as if its getting pushed from below...

Before anyone has time to act, or fall into another state of panic, attention turns to Articuno who makes a sudden move in the sky. It positions itself as if its facing a foe, though no one else can discern whats behind the wall of black clouds. Then, a bright, warm light pierces through the obscured sky! Following the light, a small... subtle... constant hum... like a buzzing, fills the area. Its ominous, but is definitely coming from that light source! Articuno seems on guard, holding its ground between the light above and the people below.

The light grows brighter, the area gets hotter, and the soot gets thicker in the sky as the far-off glow approaches the caravan. Keriel's keen senses of discernment sees through the confusion and smoke, and what approaches them in the sky is...!

:sv/volcarona:
1720829789747-png.647236

The carriage leader's jaw goes slack, and he mutters, fear and awe apparent in his tone: "L-long ago... when volcanic ash darkened the atmosphere... Volcarona... it's said, that Volcarona's fire provided a replacement... for the Sun!!!" At the end of this recollection, he grabs Mudsdale's saddle, and beckons everyone to get back in the caravan, "You all didn't pay me to face this kind of danger! Get back in, we're getting out of here!"

While the group shuffles in to the carriage, Keriel's Articuno doesn't retreat from its smoldering foe. In fact, with Keriel's keen eye and connection to its Pokemon, it sees a shadow just behind the Volcarona. "Is that...?"

:sv/audino:
1720830231648-png.647240

A sight few, if any, can say they've ever witnessed... a Volcarona descend from the sky, shining as bright as the Sun it blotted out, and on its back, an Audino, clutching on for what seems like dear life as the volcanic insect descends towards our hero!

The wild Volcarona steadies its, and it engages in evasive maneuvers as it senses an unknown, on-rushing foe. It sways to and fro in the sky, the ashen sky its background. The heat from the pokemon seems to be directed towards the virtual washing machine, and it causes an evaporation effect. The water, as it rises... there seems to be a force pulling the vapor towards Volcarona, replenishing it as it prepares its attack!

Gimmick 2 Effect: For three (3) turns, each time the ref hits the challenger with an attack, the ref's Pokemon heals 4 HP.

Essence of Animation takes its own rvasive maneuvers, forming mirages of itself that swarm Volcarona. This tactic is just enough to quell the magma moth before it grows too strong and wreaks too much havoc. As the bug's wings flap weakly, its caught in a soft pink light, and is carried away into the forests. As the steam rises and heat dissipates, Keriel and co witness the source of the pink light...!

Articuno prevails.

Keriel has won. What this means will be added later. Onto the second part.

Onto scenario 2
Feudal Scuffle
Battles won - 1/3

Keriel prevailed! In the time they battled, the bus has driven away safely with the passengers of the tour. The Audino lay on the ground, weakened from the battle. As Keriel and co approach, a buzzing resumes, and the Volcarona from before exists the forest once more. It still looks exhausted from the earlier battle, however it does not seem antagonistic anymore. With curiously protective behavior, it hovers towards and above the Audino, and the pink energy from before radiates off of its body and onto the fallen Pokemon. Moments later, the Audino gets up, a shocked expression on its face. Then, contrary to the peaceful Volcarona, the Audino screeches terribly, glaring at the Articuno that took it out!

The screech is followed by a rumbling, different than the buzzing of the Volcarona, and Keriel has to cover their ears for protection. Audino continues and as the painful screeching echoes on, the ground shakes and vibrates. One would think its from the intensity of the angry Pokemon's vocals, but with Keriel's discerning eye, they see dirt start to rise up from the ground. Then... pop! One by one, Larvesta emergy from the surrounding terrain, seemingly responding to the screech of the Audino. Two, then ten, then twenty - they won't stop coming! Soon, as far as Keriel can see beyond the trees, Larvesta scatter the ground all around. Instinctively, Articuno grabs Keriel to carry them into the safe sky - or so it thought. As Keriel ascends, and the swarm of Larvesta blot the ground below, the Audino and Volcarona conspire to knock them out of the sky!

Audino grabs the nearest Larvesta, and loads it onto one of Volcarona's wings, pulling it back like a slingshot. Then, with a mighty flap, Volcarona launches the Larvesta like a missile in Keriel's direction! As if this was a practiced routine, the launched Larvesta coats itself with flames, becoming a projectile fireball, barreling towards Keriel. And Audino doesn't stop - with incredible speed, it grabs and loads the seemingly endless supply of Larvesta on the ground, loads them onto each of Volcarona's wings, and they are launched in a barrage at the airborne Keriel!

The Mage calls out to Rotom to form a barrier of psychic energy, around them, Reflecting the missiles, or at least slowing them down enough to make their escape. He's about to call to the Harbinger to set a second screen, but the bird has a mind of its own, and isn't so happy with just being defensive. The motions of its flight become erratic and jerky, and one would be forgiven for thinking it maddened. But the strange rhythm does have a meaning to it, and as the sky darkens and begins to extinquish the Larvesta, it's clear it was finding its own way to perform a Rain Dance while airborne.

Each Pokemon must contribute at least one (1) thing from the following list:
A move it knows. :rotom-wash: Reflect / :articuno: Rain Dance
Keriel receives +2 RPT = 4 total

With quick reflexes and effective teamwork, Team Keriel deflects away the hurdling burning Larvesta, and the rogue avian douses the battle field with a dance that calls the storm! The Audino, now drenched, scowls at the trainer as they hurry away. The Volcarona hovers over to the dozens of doused and scattered Larvesta. It tries to gather them together, with protective and nurturing behavior.

Keriel retreats in the direction they intended to go, leaving behind the bus that backtracked with all the civilians. They now travel on foot to meet the Feudal Lord. Articuno seems too proud of its accomplishments, and it is beside itself with joy, flying ahead and above them. Meanwhile, Rotom is as curious as ever, darting back and forth between the trees and fauna, keeping up with Keriel's steady pace.

All of a sudden, Keriel pauses, Articuno descends, and Rotom returns to its trainer's side. A heat radiates around the area once again, and darting between the trees-
