Hey there! Welcome to BBP! I'm TheEver, but you'll most commonly see me referred to as Eve. I'm gonna walk through some of my thoughts as we battle.

For my first send, just going off of types, Nacli doesn't want to see Riolu, and Swirlpool doesn't want to see Shinx, so Nidoran seems like the safest send! I'll give it a Lum Berry to protect it against a potential Thunder Wave from Shinx or Will-O-Wisp from Charmander. And even if you don't inflict a Major Status on them, the berry will return to my backpack if I switch out so I can equip a different item later!

Let's show off some fun differences between BBP and the source game. Nidoran's Poison Point makes its opponents attacks weaker the more dosage their Poison has, and deals double damage on steps where it doesn't attack. I'm taking some up-front damage this round, but this setup should ensure that I'm well positioned for next round's first order.

Since Nidoran is slower, it was able to get Reflect up on the last step of the round without triggering your Reflect substitution. Now, with Reflect up and with Poison dosage accumulating, Nidoran can trade hits much more favourably. Its best move, Poison Jab, has 8 BAP meaning Decoy is quite a threat. Using a 9 BAP or greater move like Earth Power takes care of Decoys.
