Bellossom (Update)

Sorry this has taken us so long to get to.

- De-slash Leftovers on Sunny Day support. Three turns are way too valuable.

- STRONGLY consider making the sunny day support set more offensively-oriented. I'm the Crowned Super Sex Master Of Rain Teams (they're creating the badge for me right now) and I know how important defensive synergy is for weather support. I don't stick a bloody water Pokemon as a rain setter (well I did use Lanturn but it's immune to Electric moves, anyway) because the rest of my team is made up of water pokemon, and I don't see why I would use a defensive grass Pokemon to do so on a team that's going to have at least one or two other grass-type sweepers. The only way I can think of as far as this being successful goes is if Bellosom uses Sleep Powder and a decently-powered set of moves to both set up sun and cripple and damage counters to the other sweepers...for which it needs an offensive spread. I would recommend:

Bellossom @ Heat Rock
252 SpA/4 SpD/252 Spe

-Sunny Day
-Sleep Powder
-HP [Fire]/Moonlight
-Solarbeam/Leaf Storm

This should function as an early-game weather restarter that lures in counters to your other sweepers so you can put them to sleep and/or damage them. The current set functions as a bulky mid/late game weather restarter, but defensive synergy is horribly important for those, and Bellossom has the same exact typing as half your sweepers so...I don't see it working out as well.

Just my comments. Try and get Jabba in here, he knows a bit more about sun teams and maybe he can help.

OK, so I've been playing around with your set FB, and I think it's the best of both worlds and the best Bellossom is going to get. So, I changed some of what I wrote to fit the new set. So, bumping this to get some stamps!

P.S., Jabba is ignoring me and refuses to even acknowledge my pleas for help, so someone needs to get his butt in here ASAP. haha ;)

Moonlight can be used in place of Hidden Power Fire to give Bellossom much more survivability and allow her to set up Sunny Day as much as possible. As a bonus, under the sun Moonlight heals 75% of her health.

Moonlight heals 2/3 not 3/4

Ok, I've taken a look at the set and it looks all good. Only thing I noticed is that you mention paralysis in the middle of the description even though this set doesn't carry Stun Spore (probably forgot to fix it), but that's more of a GP stuff than anything. Also, you should use Synthesis because it's cuter ._.

QC Approved 1/2

Thanks Bluewind!

About Synthesis, should I mention it somewhere or replace it with Moonlight in the analysis? I don't see the point in mentioning both in the analysis as they are technically the same thing... ugh conundrums.

Yeah sorry took a bit of a break from qc shit for a bit. It looks solid but I'm never keen on just ripping a mon's analysis clean and taking it to one set unless I've tried out everything else that looks reasonable. So let me do that and I'll get back to you tomorrow or tuesday.

Actually the Synthesis thing was more of a joke, as I don't think it really matters which one you use due to their respective effects being the same. Regarding what Jabba said, I just went over Bellossom's old analysis and I think with her defenses a support set could be viable (Leech Seed, Stun Spore, Sleep Power and Energy Ball is kinda what I have in mind, with some slashes for Synthesis and Substitute); so I'll test it a bit and post something here.

well i got tired of waiting for jabba so im postin...

anyway everything looks fine from what i can see except you say " Be warned though, as Bellossom is a supporter first and an attacker second, and Bellossom should only be attacking to scout the opponent's Sunny Day counter or be used as a last resort." but then put hp fire as the primary option over synthesis.

its just a little nitpick nothing big anyways so:

Thanks folg! Fixing that sentence...

Well, I wrote this a hella long time ago, so it's not my best writing, but I'm pretty sure it's ready for GP checks. Bring it on people!!

[Overview]

Unfortunately for Bellossom, she's the epitome of the average Grass-type; from her average stats, to her average ability, to her average movepool, and to even her average typing, Bellossom has almost nothing over her competition. Don't be fooled though, as this doesn't make Bellossom a bad Pokemon. Her stats are placed in just the right spots to abuse her ability, Chlorophyll, and her movepool has all the right moves to ensure she won't be a disappointment if you use her correctly.

[SET]
name: Sunny Day Support
move 1: Sunny Day
move 2: Sleep Powder
move 3: Hidden Power Fire / Moonlight
move 4: SolarBeam / Leaf Storm
item: Heat Rock / Life Orb
nature: Modest
evs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe

[SET COMMENTS]

This set is about as good as it gets for Bellossom, and her best attempt at competition in UU. The main idea is to come in on something that poses little threat to Bellossom, such as Milotic or Rotom, set up Sunny Day, use cripple an opponent withSleep Powderon whatever Pokemon is on the field, and switch out to a teammate that can abuse the remaining six turns of sun. Bellossom works great in the early game if your Sunny Day hasn't been revealed yet, and some of the opponent's team has been scouted. The last two slots gives Bellossom some auxiliary support to ensure she isn't completely hapless against the enemy. Hidden Power Fire gets a pseudo-STAB boost under the sun, and pairs well with the Grass-type attack in the last slot for neutral coverage. SolarBeam is the primary choice in the last slot as its synchronicity with Sunny Day is pretty much a given.

Moonlight can be used in place of Hidden Power Fire to give Bellossom much more survivability, and allowing her to set up Sunny Day as much as possible. As a bonus, under the sun Moonlight heals 2 / 3 of her health under the sun. Leaf Storm can be used in place of SolarBeam to give Bellossom a one-time power shot at the enemy, but with sun up, SolarBeam is far more reliable. Hidden Power Rock can be used in place of Hidden Power Fire to ensure Bellossom can damage any Fire-types, trying to taking advantage of the sun she'll provide and it eliminates Moltres.

[ADDITIONAL COMMENTS]

The EVs are designed to give Bellossom as much Special Attack as possible, while also giving her enough Speed to reach a Speed stat of 398, enough to which outspeeds Jolly Swellow under the sun. Alternatively, Bellossom can invest in Special Defense with a Calm nature in place of a Modest nature and Special Attack to make her a more bulky supporter. However, the disparity in power is enormous, and Bellossom becomes more of a liability than an asset.

As a supporter, the best teammates for Bellossom are those that can take advantage of the sun and sleep Bellossom provides. Fire-types such as Arcanine and Blaziken make great partners to Bellossom, as they covering her Ice- and Fire-type weaknesses, while enjoying the huge boost in power of their own Fire-type moves. In turn, Bellossom covers their Water-type weakness and can switch into Milotic and Slowbro with impunity. Pairing Bellossom exclusively with other Chlorophyll users such as Exeggutor and Shiftry is not advised; however, Bellossom is able to switch into any weak Ice-type attacks aimed at them and can allows them to use another coverage move in place of Sleep Powder in their set. Bellossom's other weaknesses include Bug-, Flying-, and Poison-type attacks, so using Pokemon who can cover them, such as Regirock and Rhyperior, is recommended.

[Team Options]

Bellossom is best as a Sunny Day starter, so Pokemon who can make the most use of the sun she provides make the best teammates for her. Fire-types are the best teammates as they are able to switch into the Ice- and Fire-type attacks aimed at her, and in return she can switch into any Ground-type attacks they may encounter. Other Chlorophyll users such as Shiftry, Exeggutor, Tangrowth, and Sunflora make good teammates as they will be able to switch in for free once Bellossom has put something to sleep with Sleep Powder. Bellossom should avoid being put on teams with more than two other Chlorophyll users however, as she shares the same exact weaknesses as them and can only offers her ability to switch into Milotic's Ice Beam with impunity. Rhyperior makes a good partner as it's able to switch into the Fire- and Flying-type attacks aimed at her Bellossom, while she can absorb the Ground- and Water-type attacks aimed at it.

[Other Options]

Bellossom doesn't have a lot of other options available to her as, her movepool is extremely shallow. Bellossom can use a straight SunnyBeamer set of Sunny Day / SolarBeam / Hidden Power Fire / Moonlight that plays as a bulkier sweeper who can substantially heal her health; however, she is easily walled and has no other coverage moves available to her unlike her Chlorophyll brethren. She has Stun Spore, and Teeter Dance, and along with Sleep Powder which can be made are useful on double platform and ParaFusion sets; however, her lack of offense is an issue. Bellossom can make use of a Swords Dance set utilizing Leaf Blade, Return, and Drain Punch, but the same dilemma occurs as the Sunnybeamer set. She has access to a SubSeed set, but she is too slow and can only use it while sun is in play, which isn't always possible. Finally, equipping Bellossom with a Choice Specs can give her a lot of more power, but her coverage moves end at Leaf Storm, Sludge Bomb, and Hidden Power Fire.

[Counters]

RestTalk Spiritomb makes an awesome counter to Bellossom, taking little damage from even a full-powered Leaf Storm from the Support set, absorbing Sleep Powder, and it doesn't care about paralysis. and threatens Bellossom with Pursuit threatens Bellossom as she switches out. Opposing Fire-types are a great danger to Bellossom as they can take advantage of the sun she provides, and proceed to OHKO her easily with any Fire-type attack. Caution should be taken when attacking Bellossom with a Fire-type move however, as she may be switching to a Fire-type teammate of her own with the ability Flash Fire to make great use of the increase in fire power. Altaria and Chansey are almost perfect counters to Bellossom as they are not harmed in the slightest from Leaf Storm, and can heal themselves of whatever status Bellossom may inflict on them thanks to their ability, Natural Cure; all the while threatening the rest of Bellossom's teammates with status attacks of their own.

Red is removal

I removed a few unecessary comments in the Counters setcion, the rest was a good read :D Love Bellossom <3

Just a small nitpick, you say in the analysis Bellossom reaches 398 Speed, but HP Fire drops your IVs to 30, so the correct amount is 396 (unless there's a new IV combination that is legal on PO or something). Nothing huge, just my annoying self.

Thanks Komodo and Bluewind. Komodo, I made a number of your changes, there were a few I just didn't agree with though. Mostly those involving changing the tense from "can give" to "giving". Sometimes you have to look at the context of the sentence and what sounds right when speaking when making those kinds of changes. It's mostly a flavor call more than anything really.

solid analysis. changed some phrasing here, added some information there; the grammar was near-flawless, so i focused mainly on improving prose.
