[SET COMMENTS]
With its massive Attack, plentiful HP, useful Abilities, and colorful array of coverage, Hariyama establishes itself as a dangerous setup sweeper in PU. Drain Punch is chosen over Close Combat due to not cutting into Hariyama's longevity while still having considerable power. Knock Off removes items from foes while also dealing with pesky Pokemon that aren't afraid of Drain Punch like Delphox and Decidueye. Bullet Punch allows Hariyama to pick off weakened faster threats that may attempt to revenge kill it, like Florges and Flamigo. Ice Punch is also an option to nail common checks like Gligar and Altaria, but is generally not preferred over Bullet Punch as losing out on the priority it provides further underscores Hariyama's terrible speed. Guts mitigates any attempts to stop Hariyama through status effects by boosting its power to explosive levels, and allows it to freely attack foes like Coalossal. Thick Fat is also an option as it pairs well with Tera Steel and allows Hariyama to have a much easier time trading with foes like Paldean Tauros-F and Rotom-H, but does make it much more vulnerable to being stopped by burns. 44 EVs in Speed allow Hariyama to outspeed Dudunsparce. Tera Steel boosts the power of Bullet Punch and gives Hariyama useful resistances to Fairy and Flying, making it able to contend with foes like Staraptor and Florges, while also making it immune to Toxic from foes such as Skuntank and Bellibolt. However, this does also notably give Hariyama new weaknesses to Ground, Fire, and Fighting, allowing Pokemon like Paldean Tauros-W and Golurk to threaten it much more easily.
Hariyama fits best on balance and bulky offense teams that can make use of its ability to shrug off hits and deal considerable damage in return. Pokemon with Haze such as Altaria and Milotic are very effective at stopping Hariyama, so checks such as Florges and Alolan Sandslash for the former and Rotom-C and Decidueye for the latter are greatly appreciated. Decidueye — as well as other teammates like Delphox and Zoroark — is also appreciated due to its ability to dispose of Houndstone, which takes very little damage from Hariyama's Knock Off and has several ways to harass it. Mudsdale is also a large nuisance due to its ability to stomach Hariyama's attacks and force it out with Roar; the aforementioned Rotom-C as well as Milotic and Venusaur can deal with it handily. Partners like Meloetta and Bruxish appreciate Hariyama's ability to switch into Dark-types like Skuntank, and Florges and Scream Tail pair well with it due to its ability to beat Steel-types like Alolan Sandslash and Copperajah, although one must beware of Play Rough from the latter. Hariyama is also pitifully slow, meaning that pivots like Bellibolt and Gligar that can bring it in on slow, passive setup targets like Coalossal are greatly appreciated.
