Overview
########
Blastoise, having gained a Mega Evolution, is arguably the best bulky spinner for offensive teams besides Excadrill. Blastoise sports great bulk backed by a good mono-Water typing, and it has great Special Attack after it Mega Evolves. It also gets great coverage in Aura Sphere, Dark Pulse, and Ice Beam alongside its Water STAB moves. Being able to hit Ghost-types that block its Rapid Spin with Dark Pulse is a huge advantage for a spinner. Blastoise does, however, use a Mega slot, which might limit teambuilding. Blastoise also lacks reliable recovery, meaning it can be easily worn down with repeated hits. Even so, if your team needs a reliable spinner, Blastoise is the way to go.

move 4: Aura Sphere / Ice Beam

Moves
========
The choice between Scald, Water Pulse, and Hydro Pump as a Water STAB move is mainly down to personal preference. Scald allows Blastoise to punish physical attackers that try to switch into it with a potential burn. With a boost from Mega Launcher, Water Pulse is a 90 Base Power move with a nifty 20% chance of confusing the opponent. Hydro Pump is another option as it hits harder than both Scald and Water Pulse, but is less reliable due to its lower accuracy. Dark Pulse is mandatory, as it removes unwanted Ghost-types that block Rapid Spin. The last moveslot is dedicated to specific threats and should be chosen based on your team's specific troubles. Aura Sphere, which is boosted by Mega Launcher, hits Tyranitar and Ferrothorn harder than any other move. Another option is Ice Beam, which hits Dragon-types such as Dragonite while still being able to hit Grass-types, such as Tangrowth and Breloom, hard.

Set Details
========
The given EV spread is standard for a tank, allowing Blastoise to take a few hits while still hitting hard. 20 Spe EVs are used to outrun minimum base 80 Speed Pokemon. For normal Blastoise, Rain Dish is the preferred ability, as Blastoise should Mega Evolve as soon as possible, making the boost from Torrent largely useless. Rain Dish also provides Blastoise with some recovery under the odd Drizzle. An alternative EV spread is 188 HP / 252 SpA / 68 Spe, which allows Blastoise to outspeed defensive Rotom-W. This EV spread does detract from Blastoise's good bulk, however.

Usage Tips
========
Blastoise should be used on offensive teams that need a sturdy tank. Teams with Pokemon that are weak to entry hazards and rely on entry hazards themselves really appreciate Blastoise as a spinner. Blastoise should Mega Evolve as soon as possible to take advantage of the power of Mega Launcher. It shouldn't be played recklessly however, as it lacks recovery and can easily be worn down with entry hazards and repeated hits.

Team Options
========
Teammates that can handle annoying Electric- and Grass-types are appreciated. Dragon-types such as Latios have nice synergy with Blastoise, as they resist both Electric- and Grass-type moves. In return, Blastoise can tank Ice Beams and remove Stealth Rock for them. Grass-types such as Venusaur can easily take multiple hits from the annoying Rotom-W, other Electric-types, and Grass-types. Tornadus-T is a valuable partner as it can beat Mega Venusaur. It can also beat Toxicroak with a Flying-type move, while Blastoise can remove Stealth Rock for Tornadus-T in return. Another excellent partner is Talonflame. Talonflame resists the Grass-type moves that Blastoise hates and can easily dispose of Mega Venusaur. In return, Blastoise can switch into Heatran, a common switch-in for Talonflame, as well as removing Stealth Rock. Ground-types such as Gastrodon do a pretty good job against Electric-types due to their immunity.

Other Options
########
Roar and Dragon Tail are cool options for phazing, but Blastoise already struggles with four-moveslot syndrome. Dragon Pulse can be used as it is boosted by Mega Launcher. It has great neutral coverage and hits Dragon-types for super effective damage, but Ice Beam does the same while also hitting Grass-types. Foresight is an option to guarantee a successful Rapid Spin, but Mega Blastoise can already beat most spinblockers. RestTalk can also be used if you desperately need Blastoise to stay healthy for most of the match.

Another way to take advantage of Mega Blastoise's great offensive capabilities is by giving it a more aggressive setup: it can forgo Rapid Spin in favor of an additional attack, and max out its Speed to outrun threats rather than invest in bulk. However, Mega Blastoise is naturally slow to begin with, and it is worn down even more easily thanks to a lack of defensive investment.

Checks & Counters
########
**Grass-types**: Mega Venusaur is probably the best counter out there as it can take multiple assaults from Blastoise, does not fear Ice Beam thanks to Thick Fat, and can retaliate with a Grass STAB move. Other Grass-types such as Tangrowth and Breloom can also threaten Blastoise with a Grass STAB move. They must be wary of Ice Beam, however. If Blastoise lacks Aura Sphere, Ferrothorn becomes a menace, as it can either damage Blastoise with Power Whip or even proceed to set up entry hazards.

**Electric-types**: The likes of Rotom-W and Thundurus can easily come in and threaten Blastoise with an Electric STAB, though the latter does face the risk of getting hit by Ice Beam on the switch. Other Electric-types, such as Galvantula and Mega Manectric, can force Blastoise out and gain momentum with Volt Switch.

**Specially Defensive Walls**: Pokemon such as Chansey can easily tank multiple hits due to their massive special bulk and proceed to either status Blastoise or attack it with Seismic Toss. As Blastoise lacks reliable recovery, they can easily wear it down with repeated hits.

**Dragon-types**: If Blastoise lacks Ice Beam, Dragon-types such as Goodra and Dragonite can tank any hit and proceed to retaliate. The latter can also use Blastoise as setup bait. Kyurem-B can also threaten Blastoise with Fusion Bolt, but it does face the risk of switching into Aura Sphere.

**Water Immunities**: Pokemon such as Gastrodon and Toxicroak are immune to Blastoise's Water STAB due to their respective abilities. The former can either cripple Blastoise with Toxic or use Earth Power. The latter can set up with Swords Dance and proceed to do some serious damage to the team.

**Water-types**: Other Water-types, such as Manaphy, can easily set up on Blastoise as they resist its Water STAB. In Manaphy's case, it can also hit Blastoise with Energy Ball. Other Water-types, such as Keldeo, can also easily switch in and attack. Another example is Gyarados, as it can set up a couple of Dragon Dances and sweep.

Overview
########
  • Arguably the best Bulky Rapid Spinner for Offense.
  • Great bulk backed with a good mono water typing.
  • Great special offense after it Mega Evolves
  • Gets great coverage with Aura Sphere, Dark Pulse and Ice Beam alongside its Water STABs
  • Able to hit Ghost-types, that blocks its Rapid Spin, hard with Dark Pulse.
  • Uses a Mega slot.
  • Lacks Recovery

Moves
========

  • The choice between Scald, Water Pulse and Hydro Pump is personal preference mainly.
  • Scald allows it to punish physical attackers that try to switch in, with a surprise burn.
  • Water Pulse, with boost from Mega Launcher, is a 90 BP with a nifty 20% chance of confusing the opponent.
  • Hydro Pump hit harder that both Scald and Water Pulse, but is less reliable due to accuracy.
  • Dark Pulse hits Ghost-types, like Jellicent and Trevenant, hard. It allows Blastoise to reliably remove hazards.
  • The last moveslot is dedicated to specific threats and should chosen on your team's specific troubles.
  • Aura Sphere, also boosted by Mega Launcher, hits Tyranitar and Ferrothorn harder than any other move.
  • Another option is Ice Beam, which hits Dragon-types, like Dragonite, while still being able to hit other Grass-types like Tangrowth and Breloom hard.

Set Details
========
  • The given EV spread allows Blastoise to function as a tank. This EV spread is quite standard for a tank, as it allows it to tank a few hits while still hitting hard.
  • For normal Blastoise, Rain Dish is the preferred ability as Blastoise should Mega Evolve as soon as possible. Rain Dish does provide Blastoise with some recovery from the odd Drizzle though.
  • 188 HP / 252 SpA / 68 Spd is an alternative EV spread. It allows Blastoise to outspeed defensive Rotom-W. This EV spread does subtract from Blastoise's good bulk, however.

Usage Tips
========
  • Blastoise should be used on Offensive teams that need a sturdy tank. Teams with Pokemon weak to entry hazards and rely on hazards themselves, so Defog is not an option.
  • Blastoise should Mega Evolve as soon as possible to take advantage of the power of Mega Launcher.
  • It shouldn't be played recklessly, since it lacks recovery and can easily be worn down with hazards.

Team Options
========
  • Teammates than can handle annoying Electric- and Grass-types. Dragon-types have nice synergy with Blastoise, as they resist both Electric- and Grass-type moves. In return Blastoise can tank Ice Beams.
  • Grass-types, like Venusaur, can easily take multiple hits from annoying Rotom-W and other Electric-types. As well as Grass-types.
  • Tornadus-T can beat Mega Venusaur, whom counters to most Water-types. Tornadus-T can also beat Toxicroak, with a Flying-types move. Blastoise also removes Stealth Rock for Tornadus-T.

Other Options
########
  • Roar and Dragon Tail are cool options for phazing, but Blastoise already struggles with it only being able to use four moves.
  • Dragon Pulse could be used as it is boosted with Mega Launcher. It gains great neutral coverage and hits Dragon-types for super effective damage.
  • Mirror Coat could be used as a gimmick to surprise Special Attackers.
  • Blastoise learns status moves like Toxic and Yawn. It could be used to cripple an incoming check or counter.
  • Foresight is an option to guarantee a successful Rapid Spin.

Checks & Counters
########
  • Mega Venusaur
  • Rotom-W and Thundurus, the latter does face the risk of getting hit by Ice Beam on the switch though.
  • Gastrodon can easily tank hits due to its typing, good bulk as well as access to recovery.
  • If lacking Ice Beam, Dragons like Goodra. As well as Assault Vest Tornadus-T.
  • Specially defensive behemoths like Chansey and Florges.
  • Toxicroak and setup with Swords Dance, as it takes minimal damage from any move but Ice Beam.

Megas are broke
Nitpicking but i think EVs to outspeed defensive Rotom W definetely have a merit, not necessarily as the main spread but Rotom really does screw over Mtois' fantastic bulk badly.

Could you make the analysis a little less redundant?

For example, you state that it's a top notch bulky Rapid Spinner... but then state it has access to Rapid Spin.
  • A normal Blastoise set could be viable, but struggles against Ghost-types, since it lacks the power from Mega Launcher.
  • Item wise, Blastoisenite is the way to go. It allows Blastoise to Mega Evolve and gain Mega Launcher as an ability.
  • Torrent is inferior as it only activates when Blastoise has less than 33% HP. Modest Nature is the preferred nature as it allows Blastoise to hit even harder.
All of this is just fluff, you don't need to state any of this.
Landorus-T and Gliscor, are both immune to Electric-types moves.
Not only is this obvious that ground-types are immune to Electric moves, it's also not necessarily accurate since Electric-types tend to carry HP Ice, making these Pokemon poor choices. Gastrodon would almost certainly be a better choice.
Tornadus-T with an Assault Vest can beat Mega Venusaur, whom counters to most Water-types. Tornadus-T can also beat Toxicroak, with a Flying-types move. Blastoise also removes Stealth Rock for Tornadus-T.
Do you really need to mention Assault Vest? Just mention Tornadus/Tornadus-T as a partner.

In the checks & counters section, you could stand to mention more relevant Electric-types over Heliolisk (Thundurus, Mega Manectric, Galvantula, etc)

The rest of the analysis is good. After you fix these issues, you can considered this stamped.

I have been using this set to some success. Suicune does the same job and can have Leftovers but thought I would share.

name: Rest Talk
move 1: Rest
move 2: Sleep Talk
move 3: Scald / Water Pulse / Dark Pulse
move 4: Roar / Rapid Spin
ability: Rain Dish
item: Blastoisenite
nature: Modest
evs: 252 HP / 252 DEF / 4 SpD

Main benefit here is Rest healing Blastoise to tank more hits. Sleep Talk is to make sure it can stay in while not being set up on. Scald is to burn and Water Pulse is for the power with chance of confusion. Roar is to phaze threats out and rack up damage with Stealth Rock or Spikes. Rapid Spin is the utility if needed on your team. Dark Pulse to check other counters such as Ghosts. The forth move could be anything but utility such as Roar or Rapid Spin is suggested. Ferrothorn is a great partner as they check each other well and it sets up the Stealth Rocks and Spikes. EVs are to tank hits, Modest to give it a boost.

This is just a suggestion to give Blastoise another effective set to run, especially to those worried about the longevity of Blastoise sticking around.

I can't speak for the restalk set since I haven't used or played against it, maybe someone can test it out or provide logs or something.

But otherwise it looks pretty good, I'll stamp it for now. qc 2/3

and assault vest regular blastoise really has no way to get past spinblockers without using status moves, leftovers would be better. (but you still probably should be using tentacruel)

Remove Mirror Coat, Toxic, and Yawn from OO. Those are bad and inferior choices.

QC APPROVED 3/3

To those that are GPing this, please go through this thoroughly, as the writing can use some work. Thank you.

How are Mirror Coat & Yawn bad choices?
Why pass up coverage for Mirror Coat when Blastoise would rather hit crap hard or spin away hazards? I wouldn't sacrifice a lot of Mega Blastoise's health in order to hopefully score a surprise KO against something using a special attack, which may not even be the case. If you Mirror Coat and the opponent doesn't actually use a special attack on that turn, you blew it. Mirror Coat and Counter have always been gimmicky moves on Pokemon other than Wobbuffet and are more or less inferior to the variety of other options one can use, and Blastoise is an example of this. Yawn is in much the same boat. I would hit something hard instead of using that to hopefully cause the opponent to sleep (which is not as gamebreaking anymore) or switch out...

Meh, I don't encounter many entry hazards, mostly because I tend to do 3 on 3 battles. Plus Counter won me the Spring Friendly, so I really want to find something to give these moves again.

This EV spread (redundant use of "tank") is quite standard for a tank, as it allows allowing Blastoise to tank a few hits while still hitting hard. For normal Blastoise, Rain Dish is the preferred ability,(AC) as Blastoise should Mega Evolve as soon as possible, making the boost from Torrent largely useless. Rain Dish also provides Blastoise with some recovery from under the odd Drizzle. An alternative EV spread is 188 HP / 252 SpA / 68 Spe, which allows Blastoise to outspeed defensive Rotom-W. This EV spread does subtract detract from Blastoise's good bulk, however.

Usage Tips
========
Blastoise should be used on offensive teams that need a sturdy tank. Teams with Pokemon that are weak to entry hazards and rely on entry hazards themselves really appreciate Blastoise as a Rapid S spinner. Blastoise should Mega Evolve as soon as possible to take advantage of the power of Mega Launcher. It shouldn't be played recklessly, since it lacks recovery and can easily be worn down with entry hazards and repetitive repeated hits.

Team Options
========
Teammates than that can handle annoying Electric- and Grass-types are appreciated. Dragon-types (RC) such as Latios (RC) have nice synergy with Blastoise, as they resist both Electric- and Grass-type moves. In return, Blastoise can tank Ice Beams and remove Stealth Rock for them. Grass-types (RC) such as Venusaur (RC) can easily take multiple hits from the annoying Rotom-W, other Electric-types, and Grass-types. Tornadus and Tornadus-T are is a valuable partners as they it can beat Mega Venusaur. (I honestly wouldn't mention regular Tornadus, it's pretty much nonexistent when Therian exists) They It can also beat Toxicroak with a Flying-type move, (change to comma) while Blastoise in return can also removes Stealth Rock for Tornadus and Tornadus-T in return. Another excellent partner is Talonflame. Talonflame resists the Grass-type moves that Blastoise hates and can easily dispose of Mega Venusaur. In return, Blastoise can switch into Heatran, a common switch-in for Talonflame, as well as remove Stealth Rock for it. Ground-types,(RC) such as Gastrodon,(RC) do a pretty good job against Electric-types due to their immunity.

Other Options
########
Roar and Dragon Tail are cool options for phazing, but Blastoise already struggles with four-moveslot syndrome. Dragon Pulse could can be used as it is boosted by Mega Launcher. It has great neutral coverage and hits Dragon-types for super effective damage, although Ice Beam does the same while also hitting Grass-types. Foresight is an option to guarantee a successful Rapid Spin, but Mega Blastoise can already beat most spinblockers. RestTalk can also be used if you desperately need Blastoise to stay for the most part of the match.

Checks & Counters
########
**Grass-types**: Mega Venusaur is probably the best counter out there since it can take multiple assaults from Blastoise, does not fear Ice Beam thanks to Thick Fat, and can retaliate with a Grass STAB move. Other Grass-types such as Tangrowth and Breloom can also threaten Blastoise with a Grass STAB move. They both must be wary of Ice Beam, however. If Blastoise lacks Aura Sphere, Ferrothorn becomes a menace,(AC) as it can either damage Blastoise with Power Whip or even proceed to set up entry hazards.

**Electric-types**: The likes of Rotom-W and Thundurus can easily come in and threaten Blastoise with an Electric STAB, though the latter does face the risk of getting hit by Ice Beam on the switch. Other Electric-types,(ac) such as Galvantula and Mega Manectric,(AC) can force Blastoise out and gain momentum with Volt Switch.

**Specially defensive walls**:(space)Pokemon such as Chansey and Florges can easily tank multiple hits due to their massive special bulk and proceed to either status Blastoise or attack it with Seismic Toss and Moonblast, (AC) respectively. With As Blastoise lacking lacks reliable recovery, they can easily wear it down with repetitive repeated hits.

**Dragon-types**: If Blastoise lacks Ice Beam, Dragon-types (RC) such as Goodra and Dragonite (RC) can tank any hit and proceed to retaliate. The latter can also use Blastoise as setup bait to use Dragon Dance. Kyurem-B can also threaten Blastoise with Fusion Bolt, but it does face the risk of switching into an Aura Sphere.

**Water-types**: Other Water-types, such as Manaphy, can easily set up as they resist Blastoise's Water STAB. In Manaphy's case, it can also hit Blastoise with Energy Ball. Other Water-types,(AC) such as Keldeo,(AC) can also easily switch in and attack with Secret Sword. Another example is Gyarados, as it can set up a couple of Dragon Dances and sweep.

Good amcheck, was some stuff you missed. Sorry for making this such a pain to implement =(
Also 2/2

Could you clean up these two sentences from the moves section slightly:

Dark Pulse is mandatory, as it hits Ghost-types, such as Jellicent and Trevenant, hard. It allows Blastoise to reliably use Rapid Spin once said Ghost-types are removed.

They make it seem like Dark Pulse allows Blastoise to use Rapid Spin after Ghost-types are removed, but I think you were trying to say Dark Pulse is what you use to remove the Ghost-types / scare them so they don't switch in, or something like that.

Umm this is the Blastoise i use in a Volt-Turn team, and it's working really well for me.

Blastoise @ Assault Vest
Ability: Torrent
128 HP / 252 ATK / 128 DEF
Adamant

- Rapid Spin
- Dragon Tail
- Aqua Jet
- Avalanche

Non-Mega Blastoise just does not have the punch to make holes in the enemy Team, especially if he lacks a life orb or a choice item.

Really, non-Mega Blastoise is good only as a support, and nothing else.

Mine is a support. It just happens to have brilliant moves that also happen do deal damage as to be able to give him an assault vest. Rapid spin and dragon tail are my support moves, and with torrent bonus aqua jets can do a lot. Also, avalanche may not seem too powerful, but blastoise has enough bulk with a vest to survive a thundurus's t-bolt and then avalanche, afterwards you'll get a torrent boosted aqua jet to kill it. Same goes for landorus formes and dragons like salamence.

If I want something that takes care of Thundurus & the Dragons, I would instead take a Mammoswine, who can deal with em all without having to lose 70% of my health just for an Aqua Jet that is weaker than a Jolly Mammoswine's :

252+ Atk Torrent Blastoise Aqua Jet vs. 28 HP / 252 Def Deoxys: 94-112 (37.9 - 45.16%) -- guaranteed 3HKO
252 Atk Life Orb Mamoswine Ice Shard vs. 28 HP / 252 Def Deoxys: 101-121 (40.72 - 48.79%) -- guaranteed 3HKO

R u guys sure we can only talk SleepTalk and tank with this pokemon? i mean he has mega launcher and a decent stats for Sp. Attk. He could run both as tank that still can hit hard. But i have no idea what its stat should be for a mediocre tank/hard-hitter...Just an opinion and a little bit of imagination..
