BlazBlue - 2d fighters are still alive

imperfectluck

Banned deucer.
Any fan of the Guilty Gear series will instantly recognize the style behind BlazBlue, I'm sure. So far, I'm maining Arakune and Noel, and trying to work a bit more on my Ragna and V-13. Played quite a bit online, seems like Carl and Litchi are almost never to be seen.

Any smogoners here play BlazBlue at all? What do you guys think about the balance of the game? Would would you rate it?

My PSN account is imperfect_luck is someone is interested in playing.

I tried it out but I'm absolutely horrible at fighters. I just got Street Fighter IV although I think I'd prefer BlazBlue... I might pick it up down the line. I think Noel looks like the character I'd like to main if I got the game. At least I did the best with her spamming buttons XD

This game is too fun, though it's the first fighter I've played since Tekken 3 ("and smash") so I don't have any Guilty Gear experience or anything like that. I'm utter garbage right now but am uh, "competent" with Jin? I am consistent enough with his moves to usually pull them off when appropriate, that's about it lol.

I've had maybe 30 online matches, it's been almost 100% Jin, Noel and Ragna which is a bit disappointing, but yeah. Definitely a lot of fun despite the fact that I'm barely decent enough to handle mindless online spam.

The Canadian release date was pushed back to July 29, other than a few independent stores that only got the 360 version. I'm definitely picking this up when it comes out though.

Oh, and:
KoFXII: July 28
BlazBlue: July 29
Marvel: July 29

Looks like I'll be busy that week!

No it wasn't. EB got them in a little late, but the first shipment was here within the week. It's only if you didn't pre-order or pre-ordered late that you got screwed. Apparently there were 800 pre-orders across the country but Aksys only shipped 500. Most of my friends who pre-ordered got a copy.

BANG SHISHIGAMI! DEFENDER OF LOVE AND JUSTICE!

After watching a few videos, I'm actually really interested in this game, despite never having played GG. I will say that the soundtrack is absolutely brilliant, especially BANG SHISHIGAMI'S theme (not the one where he does the Bang Install, though that's just hilarious).

Obviously I will try to main BANG SHISHIGAMI, or maybe Jin if I feel like playing the typical pretty boy swordsman. Noel looks really cool too.

I played the game for 4 hours and got finished all the way to the true ending. I wanted to play online, but I had no money. Then ipl kept making remarks about how the ps3 has free online play and the 360 doesn't.

Carl sucks without nirvana helping him. Jin is really fun to play with and so is Rachel and Noel.

Bang is really funny in the game, an Nu is just plain weird.

I just bought it today. I have virtually no previous experience with fighting games, but I'm getting the hang of it (enough to hold my own against the CPU so far anyways), though there's still a ton of stuff I haven't learned to do yet.

The character I like the most so far is V-13. Her Drive is pretty easy to use in combos and she doesn't move around much when using it, so it's pretty simple to use.

I played this last week at a friend's house, and I must say, it was a very enjoyable experience.

Anyone who enjoys Guilty Gear or fighters in general will take a liking to this title. The animation, music, backgrounds, characters, and fighting styles are all refreshing, and the inclusion of a color select menu is handy when you do not feel like guessing with a random button.

The thing I most noticed and probably the greatest aspect of the game is its relaxed, lain-back style. It is the type of fighter one generally enjoys playing and is sure to have a good time, despite opponent difficulties. Furthermore, it is very user-friendly and easy to pick up. A friend in my group does not play fighting games, yet he was able to use his character of choice well enough to fend off our Guilty Gear main.

I had enough of an opportunity to play as several of the characters. Arakune seems to be my main, along with Rachael (the Alucard girl, right?), the brain-and-brawn scientist (his name escapes me, though the concept is awesome), and the female with the eyepatch (although I found myself to be ridiculous with her, so I shy away from choosing her). Forgive me for not remembering their names. Taokaka is also quite entertaining. ^_^

i'm a huge guilty gear fan (was gonna type gg fan, but thought better of it), but haven't had a chance to play blazblue at all. are the challenges to unlock everything as crazy as the ones in the guilty gear series?

Guilty Gear is superior to Blazblue in my opinion and 2d fighters are superior to "3d" ones.

The 3d fighters still play like the 2d ones anyway, unless you're playing Virtua Fighter.

For those to poor for guilty gear or blazblue I reccomend getting GGPO and getting Garou for it.

I got the game and I gotta say, it's a work of art in more ways than one. The characters are vivid, the storyline is halfway decent for a fighting game(with a decent twist), the online is great, the gameplay is fast and intense and the music is pure sex in mp3 form. I got the collectors edition so I got a collection of all the songs and they're all pretty good. I'm not a big fan of the musical direction but I can appreciate the quality in each song.

I'm getting god stomped online though, I can't believe some of these guys are this good already. I'm getting comboed like this game has been out for years. >_<;

I'd recommend GGXX#R if you could find it ;D

I don't own the game (I've played it at a friend's), but I really don't think it lives up to the Guilty Gear series. I've been keeping up with videos and etc up until release, and to be honest, was slightly disappointed. With the exception of Arakune and Litchi, the characters seemed kind of boring to use. But that's not to say its a bad game. I'm still seriously considering cashing out 250 for this game.

On a side note, for you Arakune players, what do you guys usually do with your meter? I'll admit I'm pretty scrub at the game so far, so I usually save up until 100% for the Alpha Counter into 236236C and D. x_x

And what are some of your personal set ups for clouds? Just out of curiosity for what you guys think.

I haven't been playing this at all lately (partially because my PS3 online setup sucks, partially because I'm terrible at it), but this is an interesting piece of news:

http://kotaku.com/5337458/blazblue-coming-to-europe-in-2010-with-new-characters

Of course, the one thing I'm wondering now is whether or not the "new characters" will be DLC for the existing versions or not (or whether or not they'll actually be new, and not Unlimited versions of existing characters, though to be honest I don't think that'll happen).

Arksys has been stating in the irc chatrooms that there will be a balance patch post-SBO sometime for a long while. And I do remember people saying that there was a rumored patch that would add two new characters in evo.

Plus, if there are going to be any drastic changes to the European game, it won't be compatible with the other versions.

It's almost reminiscent of Melee in a way. Lots more freedom of movement and focus on offense than, say, SFIV.

As for the patch or whatever, I assume that whatever happens, arcades will get it first. I don't think there should be much concern regarding Arcsys doing anything that would make things uncomfortable for the competitive scene.

Its probably because it was easier to get into than GG. =/

But don't get your hopes too high guys. Arcsys hasn't said anything about it, so there's no guarantee. Plus, aside from Kotaku, there aren't any really reliable websites.
