[BoB Round 2] Texas Cloverleaf vs. Pwnemon

Rules
Pokemon: 3v3
Format: Singles
DQ: 3 Days (STRICT)
Switch: OK
Items: ON
Abilities: ALL
Substitutions: TWO
8 Recovers / 20 Chills

Arena
The ASB Tournament Arena
Field Type: Neutral
Complexity: Simple
Format: All

Restrictions: No Restrictions

Description: Surrounded by thousands of screaming Pokémon fans, the ASB Arena can be best described as a standard Pokémon battling arena. In the centre of the arena lies a dirt-based floor outlined to show two separate sides (with a white Poké Ball centre). Surrounding the dirt is a moat filled with water. The moat is about 4.5m wide & creates a perimeter around the dirt arena. The arena itself is 24m wide, 33m long. All moves, weathers, and abilities are legal for the match, since it is an outdoor arena with a large water source & packed dirt. Pokémon must stay in the arena (or the dimensions of the arena in the case of Flying-type Pokémon, who cannot leave the arena & cannot fly higher than 18m). This prevents Pokémon from injuring the crowd watching the tournament. There are no outside interruptions by fans, Pokémon, or other elements not associated with the current battle.

Here we are in round two ASB, and while all the match ups at this stage are hotly contested this might still take the cake. Pwnemon just ever so barely scraped in last round, some might even argue the result but nevertheless here stands Pwnemon in round two of the Best of the Best tournament while the much vaunted Elevator Music watches from the wings. That's not to discount the other side of this matchup from the conversation entirely. Texas Cloverleaf had a reasonably hard fought battle himself against the enigmatic Leethoof. Both battlers have been cagey with their Pokemon selection here, Pwnemon even leaving his pet Pyroak at home worried about the amount of fliers that might be on the other side. That isn't to say the teams are weak, far from it. Between the two sides we have two of the very best coverage mons around, two swimming pool sized HP stats, one powerful Mega Evolution and that damn Cyclohm. This is going to be tight.

IF Roost is used and Dragonite does not have clones up and dragonite is not behind a substitute and dragonite is not behind safeguard and dragonite is not poisoned then use Toxic that action
IF a damaging dragon-type combo is used then use Protect that action

To the surprise of absolutely no one the Dragon typed leader starts us off with the absolute best Dragon types ASB lead in a Multiscale covered Dragonite he likes to call Tempest. Pwnemon also leads with a dragon, but this one is less finesse and more just simply beat face. They call him Doug.

Temptest's Quiet nature does at least avoid the headache of constant speed ties but unfortunately for Pwnemon and Doug it still isn't enough to allow the Blizzard to find its mark. Tempest on the other hand hits true with a purple flash of draconian energy for harsh damage on the cloud mon. Sensing that perhaps reliability is more important than power Doug follows up with a trusty Ice Beam which hits for strong damage even through that Multiscale and hey, at least it's broken for next round now. Tempest on the other hand combines damage with set up by swinging her Dragon Tail to both slap some more damage on Doug and send him flying back into a Pokeball at the conclusion of this round. Knowing that it's hit one last shot Doug once again loads up a Blizzard... but unfortunately for him his trainer facepalms as the move once again misses. Tempest had the same idea as she called forth a Draco Meteor in an attempt to leave a huge Doug sizes crater on the field for the next Pokemon to emerge into but unfortunately it is Texas Cloverleaf himself who has to dive for cover as the move misses wildly. To end a cacophony of errors Tempest still winds up expending an enormous amount of energy just calling the move.

Nevertheless the main objectives have been achieved. The hax saw both players miss out on similar amounts of damage and now the gigantic and broken land whale named Sid sits across the field from a tiring Tempest.

Sid may not exactly want to be out on the field but that doesn't mean he won't show off some of his tricks. Starting off with possibly the dumbest thing Game Freak ever ever did in Gen VI's new Knock Off to remove Tempest's Expert Belt coupled with some heavy damage. In fact the Dragonite feels the sting immediately as one of ASB's best coverage mons finds itself just lacking a tad on a non item boosted Aqua Tail. Next up comes one of the scariest things I have ever seen as the giant land whale throws itself into the air and causes Tempest to oh so narrowly miss with an attempted Dive attack. Then what follows is absolutely fearesome as the Giga Bounce combination has a frankly ridiculous BAP can anyone say weight nerf? and Texas Cloverleaf can only be thankful it hits neutrally. Then as with all combinations Sid is left helpless while a huge Superpowered show of strength comes his way from Tempest and the Dragonite manages to almost even up the damage race for this round. Mind you there's still a lot of Sid to get through.

In his constant search for momentum Pwnemon basically gives this round up and spends a decent amount of energy attempting to mitigate Hugabear's damage output. Unfortunately the Snorlax made it out of the round virtually unscathed while Doug still took a couple of hits himself. At least Gallade is probably coming out next to try and save the day.

Steadfast, Justified

Predictably, Rodney enters the fray but with a somewhat strange choice of item considering the magnitude of this match. His plan becomes apparent right away however as the Gallade takes advantage of Hugabear's sluggish state to Trick him into swapping items and ridding himself of the bothersome recoil inducing helmet. Snorlax clearly does not like the idea of taking on Rodney mano e mano so blows up a Whirlwind so he can play with someone else next round. However then things take a turn for the weirder as Hugabear starts to Bide and lets Rodney Low Kick him in that ample behind twice over for some rather huge damage. By the time the round is over Snorlax has saved kind of a lot of energy, soon to be released as he now finds himself facing one of the only things in the entire universe bigger than him as Sid the Colossoil is dragged back out on Pwnemon's side of the field. Lets see where Texas is going with this I guess?

May or may not have overlooked Fake Out...

Bide (release) ~ Surf ~ Superpower
If Damaging Evasive and you didn't use Counter the previous turn, Counter and push back
If Superpower and you didn't use Counter the previous turn, Counter and push back

Probably screwed now but bleh, w/e

i got fren metalsonic to test bide - fake out interactions on showdown. it's not cart testing but it's the next best thing.

Fake Out ~ Encore ~ Chill

IF it turns out that cart and showdown differ on this:

Protect ~ Chill ~ Chill

NOTE: From bulbapedia: Sleep, freeze, partial trap duration, and flinching will pause but not disrupt the duration of Bide.

In this match Frosty ruled that Bide would be pushed back one turn

Well Texas' whole Bide strategy did little more than make Sid expend a whole lot of energy Protecting against it. But I guess at least that's something. At least Sid has some forethought and takes a moment to Chill afterwards and get somewhere near a useable amount of energy. Hugabear meanwhile is reminded that Light Screen and Pressure are both things and wastes his last bit of energy on a pretty weak Surf.
