Bottled water

First off I love tapwater.
Second off working in stock all summer I probably had in my hands about 1000 bottles of water throughout, it really felt like hell because i so against it =\

Third off it's not really the quality of the water as much as the motherfucking ridiculous amount of resources that go into making a bottle of water. I'm somewhat certain that the amount of wastewater produced in the industrial plastic processing necesary to produce 1 bottle is actually twice the volume of water it holds

the one with the nice couple really hurt to watch though lol

I drink bottled water, if only for the conviniency. Once I drink a bottle of water, I usually fill it with tap water since I don't have a drink bottle.

this was pretty surprising to me. i don't really drink bottled water though, i usually just fill up my nalgene from the sink or fridge.i love penn and teller, epsecially when they aren't censored.

As for me, I'll drink out of a drinking fountain, no bottled for me unless it's free.

As for my roommate since his arthritis medicine makes his immune system poor, he is forced to drink only bottled.

The video shows pretty much all bottled water from grocery stores and such is no better than normal water. So I hope he really has a better source for his water than a bottle with a special mark on it.

I occasionally buy some bottled water when I need the bottle to store some more. We actually have a 1L bottle of water in our fridge with tap water. Sometimes on vacation we have to buy bottled water because the tap water from islands such as Crete and Cyprus IS really shitty, while the bottled water is (or should be...god I hope it is) imported. At least, I could taste the difference, and I wasn't merely pretending to do so unlike these couples in the video. God, that was just awesome and sad at the same time.

Now to watch the other video...

EDIT: hahahaha, I am so going to watch more of these

I'll only drink bottled water from countries that the tap water isn't very safe, such as a Greek island I once went to.

One insane story is that one brand of bottled water in the UK actually got their water from Fiji (pretty much the opposite side of the world), and also even sent their own bottles out their as well! We have perfectly good mountain streams here!

and drink out of what? water fountains? the day i stopped drinking out of those was the day i stopped getting sick as much as i used to, which really has nothing to do with the water but i thought i'd bring it up anyway

and i drink bottled water all the time only because it's convenient and our water has this weird sulfurish smell to it that's kinda disgusting.

Bullshit! by Penn+Teller is truly great. All 5 seasons is something like 12GB though. Still worth it. :D

As for bottled water, I've always been fairly convinced it's a scam. Not just the wasted byproducts but the outrageous price for so little actual material.

Here's Jim Gaffigan's take on bottled water: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z9T7qIBh4_A

It starts at 3:30 min. in, and it's hilarious. So is the entire thing.

Anyway, I take bottled water to school. It's convenient, because I don't have to ask to go to the water fountain every time I want to drink. Other than that, I don't drink bottled water.

Marxists and Marxist thinkers love bottled water; it reaffirms their theory of commodification.
This is to say, that as Capitalism moves closer to Late-Stage Capitalism through the division of labor, that the specialization of the labor force will produce products from things which were originally before Capitalism, non-commodities.

I find their observations of the bottled water phenomena tragic and humorous of the times, however I hold their philosophy against them as they think of it as if it were a dogmatic religion itself (thus not contributing to critical thinking).

Anyway, bottled water is a humorous concept when considering where capitalism has landed us. Our ancestors use to obtain their own drinking water for free and without controversy.

who the hell spends 3 dollars for bottled water though, it only costs that much at like a baseball game.

you can buy like a 24-case for like 15 cents per bottle or something

I buy it only for convenience but I tend to refill any bottles with tap water until the become too disgusting to continue using them.

Here in Malta, my family had to install a small reverse osmosis filter to our tap water because the quality of our tap water is atrocious, to put it mildly. Our normal tap water is only fit for doing the dishes.

I have already bought another filter for my new home, since I got used to the taste of filtered water. I prefer it to the taste of a few brands of bottled water, and is the same as the taste of other brands' bottled water. Again, I'm speaking about my country, here.

Yeah, in other countries, I can definitely understand the need to import bottled drinking water. My main beef is with the multi-billion dollar bottled water industry in America.

Personally I find the idea of commodified water pretty scary. A lot of those huge bottled water companies buy up hundreds of wells in poor-ass countries and cut them off from the people who actually rely on them for their survival.

For whatever it's worth, the UN has done a bunch of that prediction study shit about this and have said that in about 20 years around two thirds of the worlds population will not have access acceptable drinking water. Despite how exaggerated (or under exaggerated) those figures actually are, there's still no denying that any problems we have now are just going to get much worse. It's pretty damn irresponsible for 100 billion dollar industries to be traipsing around like they're doing now.

fabulous videos... though I am guilty of buying bottled water by the 24 pack at wal-mart for $3.75... I guess there are worse things.

i always thought it was a waste of money to buy bottled water when you can drink tap water that tastes exactly the same for free. there are some exceptions though, like some water fountains produce water that strongly tastes like iron.

i'll drink bottled water if i'm out somewhere and i'm really thirsty and want something to drink, but if tap water's available then i won't even bother wasting my money.

i thought companies would atleast be honest in where their water comes from. atleast Dasani says straight up that it's just filtered tap water.

I've always preferred tap water mainly because I've gotten used to and actually prefer the taste with some of those minerals and stuff in there than your average bottled water...call me a hick but yeah. x)

The only time I drink bottled water is when I'm on vacation.

I drink from the water fountains in school, but mostly I drink well water from my house. Well water and spring water taste better to me than tap water, sometimes when I drink from the water fountains at school it leaves a bad taste in my mouth.

I think bottled water gets me drinking more water, which I should do. My family's household usually always has a huge package (48) of bottled water. When I see it, I'm more tempted to drink water, because it's already in a container for me. The little cups/glasses we have just don't hold enough for me. Also, I think of the sink as a dirty place since all the used dishes go there and the refrigerator water dispenser is pretty slow. If I didn't have bottles, I probably would never drink water, because I would be swayed by the fact that the can of soda is already ready to drink. I'm not a very picky eater (drinks included), either, so taste doesn't matter. Especially when it's something between two types of water. Bottled water is also great on the go.
