I guess you could say the sound of the 80s actually began in ‘79. This tends to drag a bit.

The shred of the 70s… it’s a little repetitive at first, but the solos, the tempo change, and those little bits of stereophonic vocals are pretty sweet.

Taiji no Yume by Yoshiko Sai
A piano, a beautiful voice... wait, is this disco? Is that why this song is so long? And as suddenly as it comes, it’s back to piano and a beautiful voice, accompanied by the guitar from before. Piano, disco, guitar, vocalization, some spoken word, eventually sent not quite careening out of control before coming back down to a dreamy outro. This is really interesting.

I don’t mind the tape hiss. It’s not even noticeable save for a few spots. And I’m certainly not going to let it detract from the song.

Getter Robo by Kageyama Hironobu
BrainpanSonata: yeah, manga titles are rarer the earlier in the timeline you go, so MAL starts the decades at 70s, when Tezuka and Go were in their heyday
Holy shit, I did not expect an OP from the 70s to slap this hard. This isn’t just Go Nagai’s heyday, it’s Kageyama Hironobu’s.

While the 70s and 80s have their own defining sounds, later decades have a more wide and varied sound. This is more like the sound of the 2000s as I knew it back then.

I think I’ve heard this one before. This driving beat and the “under my skin” lyrics are very familiar. Must’ve come up on Pandora shuffle. No way I would’ve skipped it back then, and no way I’d skip it if it came up in the shuffle again.
