Braviary is a niche mid- to late-game setup sweeper that threatens traditional Flying-type checks such as Rhyperior and Gigalith by virtue of its Flying and Fighting coverage in Brave Bird and Close Combat. Defiant enables Braviary to punish Defog from the likes of Mantine and further boost its Attack from Intimidate users like Arcanine and Incineroar. Heavy-Duty Boots negates Stealth Rock damage, improving Braviary's longevity and providing it opportunities to set up. Despite these perks, Braviary struggles to set up freely on a large portion of the metagame due to its susceptibility to status and its middling Speed compared to Pokemon such as Haxorus, Celebi, and Cobalion. Additionally, it needs significant chip damage from teammates or multiple boosts to reliably KO both Rhyperior and Gigalith.
Celebi and Tsareena can pressure Doublade for Braviary with the former being able to 2HKO it with Earth Power and the latter crippling it with Knock Off. They can also remove Flying-resistant Pokemon that Braviary struggles to break through, like Rotom-W, Rhyperior, and Gigalith. Additionally, Tsareena can provide entry hazard removal in case Braviary loses its Heavy-Duty Boots. Braviary's ability to threaten Rhyperior and Gigalith is appreciated by partners like Gardevoir, Toxtricity, and Chandelure. In return, they help place pressure on Braviary's checks, such as Doublade, Bronzong, and the aforementioned Rock-types. Gardevoir and Chandelure can also cripple Braviary's defensive answers like Doublade and Gigalith with Trick, with the former also providing Healing Wish support. Noivern and Braviary form an offensive core and the two Flying-types place pressure on their respective checks like Gigalith and Rhyperior. VoltTurn users like Noivern, Rotom-W, and Flygon can help Braviary pivot in on Pokemon like Copperajah and provide setup opportunities for it. Incineroar synergizes well with Braviary, providing pivot support and serving as a check to both Doublade and Bronzong. Incineroar also wears down answers to Braviary in Gigalith, Rhyperior, and Rotom-W and helps create setup opportunities for it with Parting Shot and Intimidate. Roserade is able to check Rotom-W by virtue of its Grass typing, can absorb status due to Natural Cure, and creates setup opportunities with Sleep Powder. Spikes support provided by Roserade also helps +1 Braviary net reliable OHKOs on Necrozma, Umbreon, and Gigalith. Sticky Web users like Araquanid and Ribombee help mitigate Braviary's average Speed and enable it to outspeed threats such as Inteleon, Heliolisk, Celebi, and Cobalion. In return, these entry hazard setters appreciate Braviary keeping their hazards by discouraging slower hazard removers such as Mantine and Galarian Weezing from Defogging thanks to Defiant.
