Welcome to Smogon! Take a moment to read the Introduction to Smogon for a run-down on everything Smogon, and make sure you take some time to read the global rules.
Congratulations Sacri' for winning this week! You've been added to the Hall of Fame n_n. King UU gave me this team for the week 2, thanks and enjoy seeing it being broken! Muahaha!
Hydreigon is a really solid wallbreaker and it gives the team the needed momentum with U-turn, while checking threats such as Latias and Mega Aerodactyl thanks to Choice Scarf. Togekiss is pretty annoying against bulkier archetypes, such as balance and stall, while giving the team a solid Dragon switch-in and Ground resist. Swampert is a blanket check to pokemon such as Mega Aero or Krookodile, which would annoy the team otherwise, while being the Stealth Rock setter. Amoonguss is a good check to Primarina and Raikou, and it gives the team a huge advantage in Spore. Cobalion checks Bisharp, def Scizor, and SR Krookodile, while giving the team a solid wincon with Swords Dance and Rock Polish. Our last 'mon, Chandelure, defeats stall teams single-handedly with Taunt, Will-O-Wisp and Hex, while checking stuff like Scizor. Togekiss has Thunder Wave to defeat faster teams and help Chandelure with Hex.
Have fun guys! Deadline is Thursday, 16th March, 2PM GMT -3. Again, you CAN'T submit a core with Azumarill.
Essentially this team is quite weak to CM Raikou in general with the main checks being either Scarf Hydreigon, Amoonguss or Swampert. With Normalium-Z + HP Ice you can basically smack both Amoonguss and Swampert for a lot of damage given Swampert has some prior damage to it (~20%) and Amoonguss has already slept something else. Raikou sets up easily on Togekiss and can force out the likes of Cobalion, Chandelure and even Swampert depending on how the user plays it. On the other hand, Aerodactyl also has a good chance of beating this team, as it forces out Togekiss, Chandelure and Amoonguss quite easily while the main ways of checking it are through Scarf Hydreigon and Swampert. The former has to Draco should Aerodactyl be quite healthy, allowing Raikou to have a free setup opportunity while the latter is easily weakened into Raikou range or Raikou can weaken it sufficiently for Aerodactyl to clean.
Clefable @ Leftovers
Ability: Magic Guard
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpD
Bold Nature
- Calm Mind
- Moonblast
- Soft-Boiled
- Ice Beam
I was looking through the viability rankings and thought if the team was weak to Clefable. It was not to the common variants. So I used the Calm Mind set with Ice Beam. Ice Beam is great as it can hit Togekiss and Amoonguss super effectively. Clefable can easily setup Calm Mind versus any Pokemon except Cobalion, Amoonguss, Chandelure. And I added Gengar to deal with these Pokemons. Choice Scarf Gengar OHKOes Cobalion, Chandelure and can cripple Amoonguss with Trick. Swampert is not a problem as Clefable can easily setup in front of it. Blizzard could be used instead of Ice Beam, but the low accuracy can turn the tide of the match.
252 SpA Hydreigon Dark Pulse vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Gengar: 324-384 (124.1 - 147.1%) -- guaranteed OHKO.

This is pretty straightforward: NP Infernape can sweep this team pretty handily at +2 as soon Chandelure is out of the picture so Pursuit Aerodactyl is a fantastic pick for a partner. Opportunities for setting up a Nasty Plot include choice locked Hydreigon and Amoonguss (put sth else to bed), although it is not mandatory for Infernape to boost to do work: It does work checking Scarf Hydreigon and DD Cobalion with Fighting priority and can heavily pressure the rest of the team with Fire Blast as well as Grass Knot for Swampert. LO stalling can be annoying, I guess, but the power boost is necessary, even at +2.
Infernape's damage output:
+2 252 SpA Life Orb Infernape Fire Blast vs. 248 HP / 0 SpD Togekiss: 355-419 (95.1 - 112.3%) -- 68.8% chance to OHKO
+2 252 SpA Life Orb Infernape Vacuum Wave vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Hydreigon: 320-377 (98.4 - 116%) -- 87.5% chance to OHKO
+2 252 SpA Life Orb Infernape Vacuum Wave vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Cobalion: 377-447 (116.7 - 138.3%) -- guaranteed OHKO
252 SpA Life Orb Infernape Grass Knot (80 BP) vs. 252 HP / 32 SpD Swampert: 411-489 (101.7 - 121%) -- guaranteed OHKO (duh)
252 SpA Life Orb Infernape Fire Blast vs. 252 HP / 40 SpD Amoonguss: 460-541 (106.4 - 125.2%) -- guaranteed OHKO (duh)
Damage on setup:
0 SpA Amoonguss Sludge Bomb vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Infernape: 112-133 (38.2 - 45.3%) -- guaranteed 3HKO
-2 252 SpA Hydreigon Draco Meteor vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Infernape: 136-162 (46.4 - 55.2%) -- 67.2% chance to 2HKO
252 SpA Hydreigon Dark Pulse vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Infernape: 84-99 (28.6 - 33.7%) -- 0.9% chance to 3HKO
252 SpA Hydreigon Fire Blast vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Infernape: 77-91 (26.2 - 31%) -- guaranteed 4HKO
Nidoking @ Life Orb
Ability: Sheer Force
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Earth Power
- Sludge Wave
- Ice Beam/ Stealth Rock
- Flamethrower
Mienshao @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Reckless
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- High Jump Kick
- U-turn
- Knock Off
- Stone Edge
King UU's team struggles a lot against Nidoking which is able to 1HKO the majority of the mons and 2HKO the rest. Nothing really likes to switch in on its moves and only scarfed Hydreigon and Swamper at full hp may be able to revenge kill or deal damage to it. Amonguss can put it to sleep but only if it's got enough health to take on a Flamethrower, which deals around 70% damage. Initially I paired Nido with Conkeldurr but then I changed it to Mienshao because of it's high speed and for U-Turn.
Raikou @ Leftovers
Ability: Pressure
EVs: 40 HP / 216 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature

I was hesitant to choose either a core with Talonflame or Volcanion, at the end I chose to stick with Talonflame because I have noticed that people is starting to play without bird resist. In this team, I saw that the only check to Talonflame is Swampert that has a lot of chances of getting knocked out to a Supersonic Skystrick at +2 making the team super weak against CM Raikou as it can win in the 1vs1 matchup against Amoongus, it can have a free set up against Togekiss and because of Hydreigon being scarf, without a recovery move, it gets 2hko with HP Ice at +1 SPA moreover Hydreigon can't kill Raikou with neither Draco Meteor nor Dark Pulse at +1 SPD.
Alakazam is a big threat for the team. It just got 2 checks in togekiss and chandelure that are both checked by raikou. If rocks are up the team has no safe switch ins on kazam, the sash would help with hydreigon or cobalion if it gets a +2 speed. Raikou will help kazam killing togekiss, with the zmove it can also beat one of amoonguss or swampert. Counter zam helps against cobalion but you can use tw as well
Sorry for my bad english, I hope you can understand anyway :/
Nidoqueen (F) @ Life Orb
Ability: Sheer Force
EVs: 88 HP / 252 SpA / 168 Spe
Modest Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Taunt
- Sludge Wave
- Earth Power
- Ice Beam
The team here is extremely weak to Togekiss and both Nidoqueen and Nidoking. To begin with, there's no actual Flying resist, so Togekiss hammers the defensive core pretty easily. The Hydreigon set is also completely walled by Togekiss, giving it a free switch in unless it U-turns. Nidoqueen is here since the Chandelure and Togekiss are both extremely slow, so Nidoking's extra speed isn't super necessary. Nidoqueen is also impossibly hard for the team to check properly, and carries Taunt to stop Amoonguss from using Spore against it and fire off some free attacks. Nidoqueen's added bulk gives it the ability to assist Togekiss by soft checking Cobalion as well.
The team does not have a guaranteed safe switch in to Primarina at all. With Amoonguss's spread, Psychic is a guaranteed 2hko while the rest of the team is threatened by either Moonblast or Scald/Hydro Pump, which will require a lot of prediction for this team. After the team has been softened up by Primarina, Talonflame can basically go ham on the team due to the lack of a reliable Flying-resist. It is also important to note the only Pokemon that will outspeed Talonflame is Hydreigon but, Primarina easily deals with it.
Alakazam OHKOs every member of this team barring Togekiss & Chandelure (Toge is a 2HKO after SR, and Chandelure is 2HKO). SpD Gliscor uses this variant of Togekiss as an opportunity for set up. Roosting off any significant damage from Hydreigon, and not really worrying about Scald from Swampert (which fails to 2hko after Poison Heal recovery); Gliscor can set up on the majority of this team and threaten a sweep of its own.
King UU's team is extremely weak to CM Latias with only Chandelure and Hydreigon threatening it out. Primarina beats both Hydreigon and Chandelure with its respective STABs. Prima's EV spread makes it able to have an extremely slim chance of living a 3hko from hex when asleep. Psychium Z on Latias lets it Ohko Togekiss at +2. when primarina comes in it can also fish for burns on Amoonguss or any other mon to further weaken King UU's team for the Latias sweep.
Hello guys, time to vote! Deadline is 18th March, Saturday, when our esteemed co-host Accelgor decides to post the results and the third week :D. Again, you can vote on two cores.
