The breeding guides on this site are absolutely fabulous, but I've noticed that when you actually sit down to breed a competitive pokemon, it suddenly becomes alot more complicated than the guides show. For example breeding for hidden power becomes several order of magnitudes more time consuming and frustrating when trying to get a specific Nature AND an Egg move AND just 2 or 3 perfect IVs.
I just sat down to figure out what it would take to breed a Mild Specially based Electivire with three perfect IV's, Hidden Power: ICE, and Cross Chop. The answer was an average of 372 eggs. That was before I noticed that Electivire has a 75/25 Male/Female gender ratio, which complicates things more. Assuming 5 minutes per egg (low considering time spent logging on to wifi or rare candy resetting to check IV's, and evolving the stupid elekids with happiness) that comes to 31 hours of play time.
I know you guys are hardcore, but does anyone actually do this? I really hate the idea of just copping out and getting an action replay- but assuming 8 hours a day of play time, 4 days simply to BREED ONE competitive pokemon seems insane.
Are my figures off? Am I making breeding harder than it really is? Should I just go for egg moves/nature and forget about hidden power and perfect IVs? Should I get an Action Replay for battling, but keep my legitimate pokemon only for trading? Any constructive comments or advice would be great- I just wanna get a feel for how most people in the community tackle this.
