I return after my hiatus from playing competitively with a new team! I was inspired by a recent run of alpha sapphire I did with Technician Breloom (with the exact moveset as the one I'm using on this team) completely annihilating half of the elite four. I put the team together using that as my starting point.
Breloom @ Life Orb
Ability: Technician
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Bullet Seed
- Mach Punch
- Spore
- Swords Dance
I really don't know if I should go with Adamant or Jolly on it. It's kinda low on the speed rankings anyway, so I don't really know if Jolly is enough of a boost compared to the attack boost. Anyway, maxed attack and speed with the rest in defense. Life orb lets it hit a little bit harder, not too unusual. Technician ability is really what makes this thing a favorite of mine. 80 base power priority mach punch with at least 75bp coming from bullet seed and it only has a chance to be stronger. Spore is an amazing move too. I usually open with Breloom and its 100% chance to put an opponent to sleep and it can potentially put a threat out for the whole game. Finally swords dance tops it off for those occasions when the threats are down and it can sweep. Note that this has not happened yet lol.
Bisharp @ Life Orb
Ability: Defiant
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Sucker Punch
- Knock Off
- Pursuit
- Iron Head
Bisharp makes a great revenge killer as it hits fairies and psychics that KO Breloom. Identical stat spreads as Breloom, as it's pretty much the same concept, a physical attacker whose purpose is to OHKO and will be disowned by their family otherwise. Adamant nature here since there's nothing that out-speeds adamant compared to jolly that isn't handled otherwise by the team. Sucker punch is the "main" stab move, it hits hard, but it tends to go unused in most cases. Knock off, well, does what it does, it's a good move. Pursuit is probably the most satisfying thing, trapping and revenge killing (or switching in to psychic attacks for that matter) psychic types. (honestly I just forgot that Starmie usually runs thunderbolt and lost my skarmory to it) Finally, Iron head hits those fairies hard.
Charizard @ Charizardite X
Ability: Blaze
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Flare Blitz
- Dragon Claw
- Dragon Dance
- Roost
I thought about Mega Metagross, it is my favorite pokemon after all, but I decided this would be the better check to mega venusaur since this lets the team cover a lot more. Adamant here for the same reason as Bisharp. Maxed attack and speed, again, don't worry this is the last one of those. I put the extra in special defense though, so don't say I'm not creative. Cause I am. Flare Blitz is the main stab move here because Mega Venusaur has grown to being one of my least favorite pokemon to see on the opponent's team (oh god I hate it so much) and this lets me get it out of the way in one shot. Dragon Claw is coverage for Garchomp or when someone's gonna switch a water type in. Dragon Dance happens when nothing really threatens it and roost compensates for the blitz recoil.
Rotom-Wash @ Leftovers
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 252 HP / 4 SpA / 252 SpD
Calm Nature
- Hydro Pump
- Volt Switch
- Will-O-Wisp
- Pain Split
I get really sick of seeing this thing on every team I make but there's no denying it's a strong defensive pivot, which Breloom really appreciates, since it's hard to get a safe switch in. Also, the typing pairs very nicely. HP and special defense, since in past experiences I kept switching the physically bulky rotom-w into special attackers, so switching it to special helped. Hydro Pump hits the ground types that threaten to switch into my volt switch. Volt switch helps get pokemon in safely. Will-o-Wisp for the problematic physical attackers, since my specially defensive Rotom is a liiiiitle vulnerable. Finally, pain split to extend its life.
Skarmory @ Rocky Helmet
Ability: Sturdy
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Atk / 252 Def
Impish Nature
- Stealth Rock
- Defog
- Roost
- Brave Bird
Oh boy can this little bird take a hit. It's got the physical bulk to cover what the rest of the team doesn't, and pairs very well with typing as well. Rocky Helmet over leftovers since the immense physical bulk lets me roost. Max HP and max Defense with a little extra attack for brave bird. Even better is the Defog support it provides for charizard, which it DESPERATELY needs, losing 50% of it's health to rocks. Jeez charizard, get your life together. Stealth rock setup is always nice to have, it usually doesn't come out early game, but it can help clean up any weak, sturdy, or sash foes without having to use a move. Finally roost and brave bird, as mentioned earlier, so it can survive longer and dish out hits when it's the safest option.
Azumarill @ Assault Vest
Ability: Huge Power
EVs: 236 HP / 252 Atk / 20 SpD
Adamant Nature
- Waterfall
- Play Rough
- Aqua Jet
- Knock Off
I love this little ball of happiness. Huge Power makes it hit like a tank. It's not very fast anyway, so I thought might as well make it a tank. Assault vest and special defense investment help it take Flash Canon from Heatran with no trouble, (it's really my only answer to heatran unless it switches into breloom and I can mach punch) and OHKO it with waterfall. It checks dragons too, so that's not bad. Attack is maxed out and the rest goes to HP, and Adamant nature gives it that extra punch. Also, I wrote the title of this thread after typing this whole thing out, but it actually is a coincidence that every single attacker on the team is physical. Waterfall takes care of fire types that otherwise I have trouble hitting super-effectively. Play Rough is its second really strong stab. Priority aqua jet helps if Bisharp can't do the revenge killing, and if I need to take a hit to waterfall, I can finish an enemy off. Finally, knock off for switch-ins.
That is all. I just randomly got inspired to make this team and then won 3 games with it and now I have to get back to work. Let me know what y'all think! I appreciate any suggestions. Thanks!
