Bringing about winds of change.

As a sort of tribute to the now retired DragonMaster123 (which probably won't last too long anyway), I've decided to make my own original Tailwind team. It was originally supposed to be a Sun Team, but I began to realize along the way that simply beating weather teams by using another weather of my own wasn't going to solve any problems for me or the opponent in front of me who may have just copied that weather team in an effort to avoid losing in the future. DM123, I hope you get to read this, and thank you for the training.

For the convenience of the people who don't even know what VGCs are, the VGCs (Video Game Championships) is an Pokemon Tournament held by The Pokemon Company where fans of the Pokemon Franchise come together to enjoy each other's company and beat the snot out of each other with their treasured pokemon. The VGCs are held all over Europe, Japan (I think), the U.S.A, and, more recently, Canada. The battle format for the tournament is just as it is for the RM Doubles room on wi-fi: A Bring 6, Pick 4 Double Flat Battle. All pokemon will have their level lowered to 50, but a pokemon's level will not be raised to 50, so you have to train. There is an item clause, so no 2 pokemon on the same team can have the same item. There is no Sleep clause, but fortunately, Dark Void is banned this year. Smogon's banlist does not apply to VGCs, so you can finally go wild with stuff like Drizzle + Swift Swim, Excadrill, Garchomp, and Thundurus again. Stuff like Kyogre and Shaymin are still banned, so don't get too happy. If you want more information on where they're being held, look around in the Opening Post of the Sticky VGC Thread in the Competitive Section of this forum or the VGC section of Smogon. Various prizes can be won at these VGC events from the traditional fan merchandise to free vacations and new game systems, so you might want to consider learning more about it.

Whimsicott @ Mental Herb Miracle Seed
Ability: Prankster
Nature: Bold
EVs: 252 HP, 116 Sp. Def, 140 Def
Moves:
  • Giga Drain
  • Tailwind
  • Taunt
  • Encore
Since Murkrow wasn't really working out for me, I decided to drop him for everyone's favorite tribal Indian-Chief's-Daughter-looking puffball: Whimsicott. Thanks to Prankster, I can Taunt and Encore people while still giving massive support to my team. Giga Drain gives me an actual Grass move to use. Since it's very rare for Whimsicott to get Taunted or Encored, I decided to give Whimsicott a Miracle Seed so he can at least 2HKO pokemon like Wash Rotom and maybe Politoed in some cases.

krookodile.jpg

Krookodile @ Chople Berry
Ability: Intimidate
Nature: Adamant
EVs: 252 Atk, 252 Spd, 4 HP
Moves:
  • Earthquake
  • Crunch
  • Rock Slide
  • Protect
The most recent person to show up on my team. Intimidate allows him to cripple so many things that would have 0HKOed him like LOrb Excadrill and Flying Gem + Acrobatics. Even though the IVs for Speed aren't perfect, he has just enough to outrun Excadrill when Tailwind is up, but the speed tie against Timid Heatran could get very annoying; luckily, he's rarely seen anymore. The Chople Berry keeps his hide from being turned into someone's boots or coat by Fighting types that he could have taken out himself such as Terrakion and Infernape.

Heatran @ Air Balloon Passho Berry
Ability: Flash Fire
Nature: Modest
EVs: 252 Sp. Atk, 252 Spd, 4 HP
Moves:
  • Heat Wave/Magma Storm
  • Earth Power
  • Hidden Power Ice
  • Protect
One of the main sweepers in my Tailwind team. Magma Storm is there to give him a powerful STAB move to use that can also trap other pokes so I can Encore them if necessary or make them suffer from Intimidate. I replaced Heat Wave with this because the only thing more frustrating than a powerful move that misses at an important time is a move that tends to miss at an important time AND tends to NOT KO the pokemon it needs to. Earth Power is there to keep him from being walled by other Fire types like other Heatran and Chandelure and in case he ends up being used for some stupid reason against a Rain team's Metagross. The Air Balloon gives me protection from my Krookodile's Earthquake while also letting him have an edge against users of Ground moves in general. That's what I thought, but that bubble (or in this case, Balloon) gets busted so often that I might as well have a Passho Berry so I can survive Rotom's Hydro Pump in critical moments. HP Ice is there to deal with Dragons since it's the only thing that can hit guys like Salamence w/o getting neutered by Intimidate or putting my own Dragon at risk.

Latios @ Haban Berry
Ability: Levitate
Nature: Timid
EVs: 252 Spd, 244 Sp. Atk, 4 Def, 4 Sp. Def, 4 HP
Moves:
  • Dragon Pulse
  • Psychic
  • Substitute
  • Calm Mind
One of my late-game sweepers. Thanks to Krookodile support, I can actually use him more often now. Dragon Pulse lets me get a clean hit against all Dragons except maybe Dragonite w/ Multiscale, who still survives like a boss while the Haban Berry lets him survive the onslaught of Dragon moves. Substitute is there when I don't feel like being hit with another status problem. Psychic gives him a 2nd STAB and gives the team something to use against Fighting types.

rotomwash.png

Rotom (Mower Wash) @ Sitrus Berry
Ability: Levitate
Nature: Modest
EVs: 252 HP, 252 Sp. Atk, 4 Spd
Moves:
  • Thunderbolt
  • Discharge
  • Leaf Storm/Hydro Pump
  • Protect
After seeing a certain rain team on this website that I heard someone stole, I realized that I needed someone to use against Water types in general, so why not Mow Rotom? Then I realized that was all hype that died soon and I went back to Wash Rotom The Water Typing lets him resist Water and Ice moves, which tend to be the hallmarks of Rain teams. Thunderbolt gives me a decent STAB move while Discharge lets me abuse Krookodile's Electric immunity and my constant use of Protect. Protect is just there b/c It doesn't have a good Hidden Power, but maybe I'll get off my butt long enough to fix it one day (or wait for someone to trade me a good Rotom).

mienshao.jpg

Mienshao @ Life Orb
Ability: Regenerator
Nature: Jolly
EVs: 252 Atk, 252 Spd, 4 HP
Moves:
  • Hi Jump Kick
  • Rock Slide
  • Fake Out
  • Wide Guard/Detect
The only Fighting type in my team and the only guy that can probably sweep outside of Tailwind. Hi Jump Kick gives him a ridiculous STAB while Fake Out just gives me time to set up. Wide Guard is there for the special ocassion that I don't feel like taking **** from bullies like Muddy Water Kingdra, Eruption Heatran, Blizzard Spammers, Rock Slides, and the rare Discharge user. That's what I said before, but I'm actually handling stuff like that pretty well w/o Wide Guard, so I switched over to Detect. Rock Slide gives him something to use if he ever runs into a Flying type.

That just about wraps up the RMT. I hope that everyone who read this enjoyed it and learned a bit more than they knew before reading. Good luck to all future VGC participants.

1st thoughts.

-One of the better RMT'S I've seen so good job on that.

Now to ze actual rate:

Murkow:fairly standard though as I disagree with quash and tw on the same set quash is useful vs tr

Krook:Looking fairly standard but if you want a bulky spread i'd go for xhp,252atk,16xspeed. I forgot the actual amt of ev's but with the spread listed you outspeed neutral base 80's, and get some bulk tho I believe its slower than exca(exca is higher than base 80 right?)

Heatran:fairly standard. Nothing much to say on the individual value

Latios:Standard again but i' go protect over calm mind to stall trickroom much more easily.

Rotom:Aah good ol rotom. Imo rotom-w is better at countering rain due to the enormous amt of ice atks in rain.

mienshao:Standard again but I see no synergy with your team other than fakeout+tw, or fakeout+attack, welk cept for wideguard which imo top does better.

Team as a whole: Solid, but I can see it still lose out to rain. Ice beams are brutal but if you get tw up your at a good adv even though two of your pkmn become useless vs rain(heatran and krook). Bulky goodstuff can definitely be a problem and they don't mind losing in the speed criteria. Other than that nice team.
