Intro
Hello guys Liar here. I've been working on this new team recently and I thought it was pretty interesting so here I am sharing the result. I've always liked the concept of using passive damage to wear down the opponent and sweeping with a pokemon of choice and that's what I'm going for here. So let's get into it, shall we?
The Team
Amoonguss @ Leftovers
Trait: Regenerator
EVs: 252 HP / 252 SDef / 4 Spd
IVs: 0 Atk
Calm Nature (+SDef, -Atk)
- Sludge Bomb
- Spore
- Giga Drain
- Foul Play
So what I'm going for is a defensive core with triple Regenerator users. Why? I try to wear down my opponent with Sand and hazards, but at the same time I can now also heal my team members constantly without having to do anything. Well half of them that is, but still it works really well. Amoonguss is my special wall of choice, also dealing with top threats like Thundurus, Keldeo, Breloom, Clefable, Rotom-W, Gengar, Azumarill etc. It's a really underrated mon imo, more people should use it. Spore is also like almost guaranteed unless they're running Mega Venusaur or Ferrothorn. I have Foul Play so I can break Gengars Subs and hit Bisharp who SD in my face for solid damage.
Slowbro @ Leftovers
Trait: Regenerator
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 Spd
IVs: 0 Atk
Bold Nature (+Def, -Atk)
- Scald
- Psyshock
- Slack Off
- Calm Mind
Slowbro forms a well known core with Amoonguss, he's pretty much your typical Scald spamming bulky Water. He's one of my only ways to reliably deal with Heatran. He's a tricky mon, on one hand he's forced out easily because of his crippling Dark and Electric weaknesses but on the other hand he's hard to switch in on safely without risking a burn. Sometimes he's not that useful, but he keeps the core going and allows me to outstall stuff like Stallbreaker Mew by burning it with Scald, then outstalling it out of recovery by switching around with Amoonguss. I have Calm Mind just because stuff like CM Magic Guard Clefable can sweep me otherwise.
Tornadus-T @ Assault Vest
Trait: Regenerator
EVs: 252 HP / 4 SDef / 252 Spd
Hasty Nature (+Spd, -Def)
- Hurricane
- Knock Off
- Heat Wave
- Superpower
I love this set! It looks awkward but it's actually quite a pain to deal with for most people. Basically Tornadus-T gives me utility, coverage and momentum. Knock Off is a must on every team nowadays, and it works especially well when you remove their Leftovers and they're weak to Sand and hazards. Hurricane misses a lot more than I'd like, but Air Slash is just too weak to secure kills when it needs to. It does however do a great job at wrecking Mega Venusaur, Keldeo and Conkeldurr. Heat Wave is something nobody expects for some reason, but I've killed countless Scizor and Ferrothorn with it so I'll take it. Guess they expect U-turn, but I don't need switch momentum when I have the AmoonBro core. Superpower maims Bisharp and T-tar and is quite crucial for Heatran too.
Skarmory @ Rocky Helmet
Trait: Sturdy
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 Spd
IVs: 0 Atk
Impish Nature (+Def, -SAtk)
- Spikes
- Defog
- Roost
- Counter
Skarmory is an important physical wall. It does well in the current metagame with Landorus-T spamming U-turn all over the place. I also can't have too many hazards on my side, even SR is quite crippling so Defog is a must. Counter is literally just so Bisharp doesn't sweep me. I lose Skarmory in the process but it's more than worth the trade usually. My Spikes usually don't stay up for long, but they force a Defog which lets me gain momentum and go from there. Otherwise pretty much the standard set.
Gallade @ Galladite
Trait: Justified
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spd
Jolly Nature (+Spd, -SAtk)
- Swords Dance
- Drain Punch
- Knock Off
- Ice Punch
Here's my sweeper of choice, Mega Gallade. Aside from the cool factor it's a really solid sweeper; it has a nice speed tier, solid bulk and sky high attack. There's like two big checks to it running around in OU being Talonflame and Thundurus, both of which my team handles with ease. T-tar + Fighting type in general is like bread and butter. Swords Dance gives me the power to plow through a team with relative ease, while Drain Punch is mostly for Bisharp. You can recover most of your health if they try to weaken you with Sucker Punch for something else. Knock Off and Ice Punch just gives the best overall coverage imo.
Tyranitar @ Leftovers
Trait: Sand Stream
EVs: 252 HP / 216 SDef / 40 Spd
IVs: 0 Atk
Calm Nature (+SDef, -Atk)
- Stealth Rock
- Toxic
- Protect
- Fire Blast
This is a bit of a funny set but it gets the job done. Usually Hippowdon is the sand setter of choice for Sand Stall teams, but it's a bit too passive for me so I went with Tyranitar. A Stall team is not complete without a status move, so I figured why not put it on Tyranitar? T-tar often baits out mons like Landorus-T or Rotom-W who really dislike Toxic, and you can follow up with Protect to scout their move. Toxic + Sand + Protect is pure epicness, it just always works with no risk involved. Lastly Fire Blast deals with Steel-types not named Heatran who are of course immune to poison.
So that's the team, ratings and comments are appreciated :)
