Overview
########
Bronzong's neat defensive typing grants it nine resistances and an immunity, and when coupled with its solid bulk and a great movepool turns it into a great defensive or support Pokemon. Bronzong's nice ability, Levitate, grants it immunity to otherwise super effective Ground-type attacks and prevents it from being trapped by Dugtrio. Although its low Speed allows it to have a more powerful Gyro Ball and take advantage of Trick Room, this also means that it will be taking more hits due to it moving after most opponents. The ubiquity of Knock Off is also detrimental to Bronzong, due to Knock Off hitting it super effectively, unlike other Steel-types, such as Registeel, which it faces competition from. A lack of reliable recovery also somewhat hampers Bronzong's defensive capabilities, leaving it slightly outclassed by some other walls such as Cresselia.

Specially Defensive
########
name: Specially Defensive
move 1: Stealth Rock / Protect
move 2: Gyro Ball
move 3: Earthquake
move 4: Toxic
ability: Levitate
item: Leftovers
evs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 SpD
nature: Sassy
ivs: 0 Spe

Moves
========
Bronzong can easily find opportunities to set up Stealth Rock with its plethora of resistances and solid natural bulk. Protect can be used in this slot for racking up Toxic damage and regaining some HP from Leftovers if a teammate can set up Stealth Rock. Gyro Ball is easily Bronzong's strongest STAB move, and is powered up by its low Speed. Earthquake hits Fire-types which resist Gyro Ball for a decent amount of damage. Toxic can cripple switch-ins and wear them down so teammates can break past them easier.

Set Details
========
Maximum HP and Special Defense investment with a Sassy nature makes Bronzong as bulky on the special side as possible, and 0 Speed IVs ensure Gyro Ball has as much power as possible. Levitate is an overall better ability compared to Heatproof, and allows Bronzong to wall Rhyperior to some extent. Leftovers is used to provide some residual recovery.

Usage Tips
========
Bronzong can switch in many times throughout a match thanks to its solid bulk, an immunity to Spikes and Toxic, and a resistance to Stealth Rock. Taunt cripples Bronzong to some degree, so make sure to keep it away from potential Taunt users. Bronzong also forces quite a few switches, so take advantage of this and use Toxic often.

Team Options
========
Wish passers such as Aromatisse help greatly, due to Bronzong having no real recovery outside of Leftovers. Physically defensive walls such as Alomomola and Drapion also work well with Bronzong, soaking up both physical and special hits together. Setup sweepers such as Rhyperior can also take advantage of the many switches Bronzong forces. Knock Off absorbers, such as Cobalion which also gets a Justified boost, aid Bronzong in staying alive and supporting its team.

Offensive Trick Room
########
name: Offensive Trick Room
move 1: Trick Room
move 2: Stealth Rock
move 3: Gyro Ball / Earthquake
move 4: Explosion
ability: Levitate
item: Normal Gem / Mental Herb
evs: 252 HP / 252 Atk / 4 Def
nature: Brave
ivs: 0 Spe

Moves
========
Trick Room is easily set up unless the opponent is a fast Taunt user and setting up Stealth Rock is almost guaranteed after that. Gyro Ball hits quite hard due to Bronzong's low Speed, and hits most Taunt users for heavy damage while preventing Bronzong from being completely shut down by Taunt. Alternatively, Earthquake can be used to hit opposing Steel-types and Fire-types, which resist Gyro Ball. Explosion allows Bronzong to literally go out with a bang, dealing heavy damage to anything that doesn't resist it and preventing opponents from Rapid Spinning or Defogging away Stealth Rock.

Set Details
========
Maximum HP and Attack EVs with a Relaxed nature let Bronzong tank hits pretty comfortably and retaliate hard, while Levitate grants it an immunity to Ground-type moves. Normal Gem allows Explosion to hit extremely hard, but a Mental Herb can be used to guarantee the setup of Trick Room, and, by extension, Stealth Rock.

Usage Tips
========
This Bronzong should typically be used as a suicide lead to set up Trick Room and Stealth Rock in order to assist some slower sweepers. Use Trick Room, Stealth Rock, and Explosion in that order, as Earthquake and Gyro Ball should only be used if the opponent carries Taunt. If there is a Ghost-type on the opponent's team, switch Bronzong out and save it to use Explosion later and possibly chunk an opposing wall.

Team Options
========
Slower sweepers such as Escavalier and Exploud can benefit from Trick Room and perform their roles even better. Phazers can continue forcing the opponent's Pokemon to take residual damage.

Other Options
########
A Calm Mind set can be used with Flash Cannon and Psychic, but it is generally outclassed by other Calm Mind users. A weather-setting move such as Sunny Day or Rain Dance can be used to support the team. Trick in combination with Lagging Tail or Toxic Orb can be fun to play around with. Hidden Power Ice is situational, but can be used to dent Gligar and other Grass-, Flying-, and Ground-type threats.

Checks & Counters
########
**Taunt**: Taunt shuts down Bronzong, prevent it from utilizing its support moves and forcing it out in most cases.

**Xatu**: Xatu's Magic Bounce ability prevents Bronzong from using Stealth Rock or any status moves, effectively forcing it to attack or switch out.

**Doublade**: Doublade can set up Swords Dance on Bronzong with ease, benefits from Trick Room, and isn't really affected by anything Bronzong can do.

**Reuniclus**: Reuniclus also benefits from Trick Room, can set up Calm Mind, and doesn't take damage from Toxic due to its Magic Guard ability.

**Fire-types**: Moltres in particular does not really fear anything from Bronzong except for Toxic or Explosion, due to its resistance to Gyro Ball and immunity to Earthquake. Other Fire-types must watch out for Earthquake, but once they come in they can force Bronzong out with a strong STAB move.

**Slowking and Clawitzer** Slowking and Clawitzer do not fear much except for Toxic, but they can either force Bronzong out with a super effective coverage move or wear it down with Scald burns.

**Spiritomb** Spiritomb can trap Bronzong and ignore its screens with Infiltrator, while easily taking anything Bronzong has to hit it with.

**Escavalier** Escavalier takes almost nothing from any of Bronzong's attacks and can easily threaten it out with Knock Off or set up on it.

**Eelektross**: Eelektross's is immune to Earthquake thanks to Levitate, and it also resists Gyro Ball due to its Electric typing. It can then force Bronzong out with Knock Off or Flamethrower, or gain momentum with Volt Switch.

Overview
########
- neat defensive typing; 9 resists and 2 immunities
- solid natural bulk as well
- nice movepool that has what it needs to do its job very betterly
- slow af, but hey, it powers up gyro ball :]
- knock off buff is bad news since a lot more mons carry it now
- other steel-types like registeel give it competition; not weak to knock off or ghost / dark
- no reliable recovery

Specially Defensive
########
name: Specially Defensive
move 1: Stealth Rock / Protect
move 2: Gyro Ball
move 3: Earthquake
move 4: Toxic
ability: Levitate
item: Leftovers
evs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 SpD
nature: Sassy
ivs: 0 Spe

Moves
========
- gyro ball hits really hard because bronzong's slow as hell
- stealth rock is easily set up because it's bulky as hell
- toxic can whittle down switch-ins
- earthquake hits poison and steels who are immune to toxic
- protect racks up poison damage and lefties recovery

Set Details
========
- 252 hp and 252 spd with sassy nature for really solid special bulk
- 0 spe ivs makes sure gyro ball hits as hard as possible
- levitate lets you wall rhyperior to some extent and gives more switch-in opportunities
- lefties is bronzong's only form of recovery

Usage Tips
========
- bronzong can switch in often since it resists SR, is immune to (t)spikes, and has tons of bulk
- stealth rock can be set up multiple times if the opponent manages to get rid of them
- taunt cripples it to a degree, since its main source of damage will be toxic
- bronzong forces a lot of switches, so take advantage of that and use toxic / twave often

Team Options
========
- clerics can be used with levitate bronzong, since burn is the only status that really hurts it
- wish passers like aromatisse since it has no real methods of reliable recovery
- set up sweepers that can take advantage of the switches bronzong forces
- physically defensive walls to soak up hits on the other side of the spectrum
- alomomola is particular has good synergy, and specially defensive drapion can set up tspikes, knock off, and deal with ghost-types
- aromatisse is literally a match made in heaven when paired with bronzong; cleric, wish, tr support all in one, and great defensive synergy

Offensive Trick Room
########
name: Offensive Trick Room
move 1: Trick Room
move 2: Stealth Rock
move 3: Gyro Ball / Earthquake
move 4: Explosion
ability: Levitate
item: Normal Gem
evs: 252 HP / 252 Atk / 4 Def
nature: Brave
ivs: 0 Spe

Moves
========
- trick room pretty much guarantees SR
- SR because it's always good for some chip damage
- gyro ball hits relatively hard because bronzong is slow, also prevents it from being taunt bait
- EQ hits a lot of stuff, especially steel and rock types that resist explosion + fires that resist gyro ball
- explosion to go out with a bang (geddit) and prevent them from spinning / defogging away SR
- alternatively use toxic over gyro ball if your opponent doesn't pack taunt

Set Details
========
- max HP and defense EV investment with a relaxed nature lets it tank physical hits pretty comfortably
- heatproof means fire-types won't be able to OHKO as often; also reduces burn damage
- levitate > heatproof since immunity > resist
- normal gem so explosion makes a bigger bang
- or you can use mental herb so it's guaranteed to get trick room up, and by extension SR

Usage Tips
========
- generally should use it as a lead
- use trick room -> SR -> explosion; only use gyro ball or EQ if opponent is using prankster taunt, since that's the only reason it's on there
- use explosion after it's done its job, since bronzong is pretty much dead weight after it sets up
- don't explode on ghost-types pls, switch out and save it to go boom later

Team Options
========
- slower sweepers; stuff like escavalier and exploud underspeed most pokemon and go to town
- knock off absorbers, since mental herb is pretty crucial for it
- literally any sweeper that needs chip damage to net KOs
- phazers so you can annoy the opponent and force him to keep taking rocks damage

Other Options
########
- cm set, but so many other things outclass it in that sense
- weather setter with sunny day / rain dance
- hp ice wrecks gligar and other ground, flying, and grass types
- trick + lagging tail / toxic orb can be fun to play around with

Checks & Counters
########
- taunt on sets without mental herb
- xatu because magic bounce sux
- fire, dark, and ghost-types can set up all over it if it doesn't carry toxic / twave
- doublade can set up swords dance and doesn't really care about anything bronzong does
- cm reuniclus can set up all over bronzong
- defoggers can remove SR as well as screens

Last edited:
You can also mentioned a specially defensive set in other options. Also doublade can be a real problem for bronzong since gyro ball does nothing since both Pokemon are slow, and earthquake won't be killing fast either. In return doublade can hit back hard with shadow ball.

Stealth Rock + Protect Bronzong is bad, since makes no sinergy between your moveslot because needs 2 offensive moves (Gyro to hit decent and EQ for steels, fire etc) and Toxic.

Use:
- Stealth Rock / Protect
- Gyro Ball
- Earthquake
- Toxic

Also on OTR Zong lead, use Normal Gem + Explosion, maximize atk and hp (quiet).

Ok, time to have fun with this one.

[Overview]

- Mention that the low Speed helps with Gyro Ball

[Specially Defensive]

- Remove Thunder Wave mention in moves. Zong can't learn it
- I wouldn't say you wall Rhyperior since Megahorn is still doing a decent amount and you can't do much back other than Toxic. Solid switch-in though
- It doesn't resist Spikes and Toxic Spikes. It's outright immune to them. Be sure to clarify that
- I know it's mentioned, but really stress on how well Aromatisse complements Bronzong. Wish and cleric support in one and generally great defensive synergy

[Offensive Trick Room]

- Atk, not Att. Just a typo, but be sure to fix it during write-up
- Again, remove Thunder Wave as Bronzong is incapable of learning it
- Remove Mental Herb mention as it's not the hold item any more

[Dual Screens]

- I have to wonder why this is used over Uxie or Meostic-M. Uxie is faster, bulkier, and has Memento. Meowstic-M is faster, has Prankster, and even has Thunder Wave to stop setup sweepers. Kinda want other QC members to share input on this one, but I don't really like this set when there's Uxie, and even Meowstic-M

[Other Options]

- Remove Gravity. Kinda stupid to make yourself vulnerable to Ground-types
- Remove Iron Ball for the same reasons

Holding off on a QC Approval until we can figure out what to do with Dual Screens. Make the rest of the changes though.

yeah, changes made. just post here again once qc has decided whether the set stays

Iron Head should probably be added in OO to hit Aromatisse for good damage as Gyro Ball does nothing to it. It also hits Rhyperior harder. Zen Headbutt probably deserves a mention too

Hey, if i could just take another pass through this i'd like to say that the checks and counters section needs to be beefed up a bit. There are definitely more effective ways to deal with Bronzong than the ones that are currently mentioned, even if not all of them appreciate a Toxic/EQ.

Moltres DEFINITELY deserves a mention here, it can come in on anything but Explosion or Toxic really and easily force it out with a Fire Blast. I wouldn't be opposed to just having a whole section for Fire-types, just as long as it's stressed every Fire-type Pokemon except for Moltres has to be wary of getting stricken by Earthquake on the switch (Fletchinder doesn't count, if anything Bronzong's checking Fletchinder, not the other way around).

Slowking and Clawitzer definitely deserve a mention here too, they don't really appreciate a Toxic, but they can come in and either smash Bronzong with super effective coverage moves or attempt to burn it with Scald quite handily.

Some other Pokemon that could warrant a mention include Spiritomb (doesn't really care about anything but Toxic, traps Bronzong and hits it through screens thanks to Infiltrator) Escavalier (switches in really easily and Knocks it off/Megahorns it), and Eelektross (basically immune to anything but Toxic, forces zong out with Flamethrower or Knock Off, gets the switch advantage after forcing Bronzong out by volt switching on it).

Not getting trapped by Dugtrio should probably be mentioned as a perk too!

Right off the bat...what about Earthquake? You don't talk about it in moves at all, get on that

I'm going to throw this out there-I believe that OTR zong...well firstly isn't actually OTR, just TR support with a bit of firepower. But moving on

Heatproof ought to be slashed on it (second). Why?

252+ Atk Rhyperior Earthquake vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Bronzong: 248-294 (73.3 - 86.9%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Leftovers recovery
(248, 252, 254, 258, 260, 264, 266, 270, 272, 276, 278, 282, 284, 288, 290, 294)

You can survive any ground-type move outside of Choice Band or Life Orb Rhyperior's Earthquake with the physically defensive spread. While those do exist, they're not that common and they're not that eager to attack you. You know what is common and eager to attack you?

252 SpA Life Orb Moltres Fire Blast vs. 252 HP / 0 SpD Bronzong: 400-476 (118.3 - 140.8%) -- guaranteed OHKO
(400, 406, 413, 416, 421, 424, 432, 437, 439, 445, 447, 455, 460, 463, 468, 476)

This doesn't want rocks up like a motherfucker and has no problem torching you to get its way. Except suddenly, you have the option to just TR and then Rocks/Boom afterwards (0 Atk Normal Gem Bronzong Explosion vs. 0 HP / 4 Def Moltres: 230-271 (71.6 - 84.4%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
(230, 233, 235, 238, 241, 243, 246, 249, 252, 254, 257, 260, 262, 265, 268, 271))

Also, every other Fire-type, none of which can OHKO with Heatproof.

In short, Heatproof lets you tank just about anything and TR. Reasons cited for using Levitate are "spikes" and "Switching in on ground moves" but as this set is meant to lead and often just boom itself, that stuff is much less of a concern. Right off the bat, most people won't want to Earthquake you in most cases anyhow. While Levitate is still the superior ability, Heatproof is worthy of consideration-even if people know you're packing it.

Trick Room does not reverse priority; as such, Roar, Whirlwind, Dragon Tail, and Circle Throw will still go last, unless up against an even slower user of the same move, or a user of a lower-priority move (such as trick room incidentally).

Flygon is not in RU

For Checks and Counters, refer to my Taunt comment once again. Fine, it stops you from SRing, assuming they don't switch into you because then you probably just used it. That's about all, and tbh many taunt users are still Pokemon you either 1v1 or want to run from. You can mention it's good against TR Bronzong if it's not using Mental Herb, i suppose.

A fair amount of your checks and counters don't like Toxic at all, and in addition, Durant can do everything Escavalier can [0 Atk Bronzong Gyro Ball (138 BP) vs. 0 HP / 4 Def Durant: 61-72 (23.7 - 28%) -- 93.4% chance to 4HKO
(61, 62, 63, 63, 64, 65, 66, 66, 67, 68, 69, 69, 70, 71, 72, 72)] Plus of course Escav has pursuit.

Also, I switched Xatu and Taunt in checks and counters. Xatu screws over the main set much harder and the second set isn't a huge fan either tbh. The second set can also run Mental Herb to get around taunt, but there isn't much getting around xatu (maybe offensive variants, but it can still bounce your rocks. Perhaps mention Offensive ones lose, but defensive ones hard counter.)

Immunity Gligar's a fairly noteworthy counter; can SR on you and knock off, doesn't even mind normal gem explosion.

I'd say you wall Rhyperior to a pretty large extent,
252+ Atk Rhyperior Stone Edge vs. 252 HP / 0 Def Bronzong: 84-99 (24.8 - 29.2%) -- possible 5HKO after Leftovers recovery
(84, 84, 85, 87, 87, 88, 90, 90, 91, 93, 93, 94, 96, 96, 97, 99)
Maybe just say "walls ground-types to an extent" because you really kind of do; Gligar with Knock Off is a meanie but other than that, lix, rhyp, gligar, yea.

Also "levitate is an overall better ability"; maybe explain the merits, especially since Heatproof isn't completely unviable either, something which should also be mentioned (biggest benefit is probably Exploud, you can stay in and Tox moltres too)

To what degree does Taunt really cripple Bronzong? Yes, it stops rocks, and it stops Toxic and Protect...however, most Taunt users are already Toxic-immune and beat you in any case, to the point where you should switch out of them in the first place...with the exception of taunt Cobalion, go ahead in this picture.

Rhyperior is honestly not much of a sweeper and what the hell, 'take advantage of the switches it forces', how?

Drapion's a crappy physical wall and is used as such very little by elite players. You can mention it being good against ghosts and to a lesser extent darks, but it's not a physical wall.

Why is OTR Zong Physically defensive? Is there some kind of reasoning here that needs to be shared with the reader? Cause i bet there is////.

On that note, why's the first set SPECIALLY defensive? You haven't mentioned a single mon zonger is supposed to wall yet outside of rhyp, explain why special spread is better and what threats it lets you take on.

I would hide these comments but they need to be addressed

This isn't meant to be rude, but if you are going to recommend Heatproof Bronzong as a slash I don't think you should be commenting on the sets, you aren't QC and if we had thought that was worth a mention then we would have said something. Levitate not only gives it an immunity to ground, but it also an immunity to spikes and prevents Dugtrio from trapping it, aka the reason to use SpD Bronzong over Registeel, cause it beats Exploud and can't be trapped by Duggy (hory should expand on this in set details though). What are these calcs with Phys Def Bronzong, none of the sets are physically defensive? OTR isn't physically defensive, horyzhnz should fix the set details to reflect that it is maxing out attack.

Edit:

atomicllamas

Screw all the complex explanations; considering how you treated my comments they'd be lost on you anyways.

Basically, you

1: singled out 1 comment out of over a dozen

2: Assumed i was talking about the defensive set despite multiple mentions of Trick Room and even a calculation of Normal Gem Explosion!!

3: Used that to state that i shouldn't be commenting.

But hey, at least you didn't completely miss the mistake in this analysis that led to this situation!

Oh wait.

man tehy, you really need to calm down. just because someone refuses to fully accept your criticism that doesn't make them unwilling of your respect (idt anyone cares anyways, but show some decent behavior at least). with that said, i've got to partially agree with your output regarding heatproof. it's shit on the defensive set, as it makes you need to bluff in a situation that you shouldn't even be in to start with (it also makes you susceptible to spikes, which are sort of relevant atm). it also removes zong's biggest niche over registeel, aka the ability to avoid getting trapped by dugtrio. however, it does deserve a mild mention on the second set, since it allows you to get tr set up against the likes of moltres, which is always a good thing to have. slashing it is a no-no though.

but yeah, while your contributions are appreciated sometimes, i think that if you left that bitchy attitude aside, you'd be taken seriously even more often. don't take this as an offense by the way

I have never withdrawn respect from people who respectfully disagree with me;.

My problem is with those that don't respond, or don't engage me honestly. I felt this response was the second; there is a mountain of evidence that i'm talking about TR, and actually zero evidence that i am talking about defensive. So either atomicllamas did not read much of what I wrote before replying to me, or just purposely framed my argument badly. Either is fairly disrepectful, and i don't appreciate it.

To be clear, i was not really suggesting it on the first set. That part is simply to emphasize that, in light of heatproof not being so terrible, levitate's superiority needs to be explained; just saying it's better is not enough. There is a side note here of "especially for noobs" something which was on my mind but unfortunately did not state.

If atomicllamas was by chance referring to this i apologize; however, he talked about my recommended slash, which leads me to believe it wasn't the case.

(As an aside: if this were, say, ou politoed, i'd be fine with only "drizzle is the superior ability". But levitate is not at that level of dominance.)

As for the second set... Set Details is cool too, maybe a slash was overboard, i just felt there was a bit of untapped potential here.

but yeah, while your contributions are appreciated sometimes, i think that if you left that bitchy attitude aside, you'd be taken seriously even more often. don't take this as an offense by the way
I don't take offense at the truth.

That said, i invite you to look at my first post (both for comments and for tone). I felt i was pretty civil (tell me if you disagree). Until called out with a probable strawman, i was leaving the bitchy attitude on the welcome mat.

id think aboma is worth a mention in here lol

/me tags everyone n_n
Oh yeah, that's a great point. Mixed abomasnow can usually 2HKO registeel after some prior damage with EQ, while SD sets have a better chance of doing that. So, levitate is one of the main reasons to use zonger over registeel, considering how much of a threat m-abomasnow is to defensive or balanced teams.

no, I wasnt arguing for levitate (even though its axiomatically the best choice), I was pointing out that an analysis on a defensive mon that doesn't mention the main threat it walls is kinda oO
