[SET COMMENTS]
Quaquaval is an amazing setup sweeper due to Bulk Up, Moxie, and Aqua Step to outpace foes like Hydreigon, Iron Moth, and Garchomp. Bulk Up lets it more easily take out threats like Great Tusk, Armarouge, and Ting-Lu and survive attacks from Pokemon such as Baxcalibur, Tera Flying Roaring Moon, and Azumarill. Close Combat hits Pokemon that can take an Aqua Step, like Kingambit, Roaring Moon, Meowscarada, Hydreigon, and Baxcalibur, super effectively. Roost gives Quaquaval longevity allowing it to accumulate and take advantage of its boosts, and it allows Quaquaval to switch into Kingambit and Cinderace without fearing chip damage. Taunt shuts down Pokemon like Toxapex, Rotom-W, and Skeledirge by preventing the use of recovery and status-inflicting moves. It also blocks Defense-boosting attempts from Curse and Bulk Up users like Great Tusk and Garganacl. Ice Spinner is a great coverage move that hits Pokemon that would otherwise resist Quaquaval's STAB attacks, like Dragonite, Water Absorb Clodsire, and Amoonguss. 112 Speed EVs allow Quaquaval to outspeed Iron Moth after a boost. Tera Water boosts Aqua Step's power and removes Quaquaval's weakness to threats like Iron Valiant, Azumarill, and Future Sight Slowking. Tera Fighting boosts Close Combat’s power to dent threats like Garchomp and Breloom. It also allows Quaquaval to take less damage from Garganacl’s Salt Cure. Tera Poison is a defensive option that allows Quaquaval to resist Fairy-type attacks from Pokemon like Iron Valiant and Azumarill, absorb Toxic Spikes, and be immune to Toxapex's and Clodsire's Toxic.
Quaquaval fits best on offense teams that support its ability to set up and sweep. Entry hazards from Pokemon like Meowscarada and Glimmora give Quaquaval an easier time taking out foes. Pivots like Rotom-W and Cinderace bring Quaquaval safely onto the field against threats like Volcarona, Great Tusk, and Baxcalibur. Cinderace in particular is able to provide entry hazard control with Court Change and can burn with Will-O-Wisp, giving Quaquaval an easier time to set up and sweep. Quaquaval targets common Fire-, Ground-, and Dark-types; therefore, it can support teammates weak to them like Corviknight and Gholdengo. In return, Corviknight can pivot Quaquaval into battle, come in on Assault Vest Toxapex, and remove entry hazards. Gholdengo blocks status that prevent Quaquaval from sweeping should it not run Taunt. Quaquaval struggles against Pokemon like Dragonite, Dragapult, and Azumarill; therefore, threats to them like Scizor, Iron Valiant, and Baxcalibur make good teammates. Scizor checks Azumarill, while Iron Valiant and Baxcalibur check Dragonite and Dragapult. Baxcalibur also dents Azumarill heavily, allowing Quaquaval to take it more easily.
