Building a team around a pokémon

I've never really tried building a team around one pokémon. I tend to build it round a concept (sandstorm, all out attack etc.) and then use pokémon that go well with the concept and then other pokémon to fill in any weaknesses.

i find that in theory, a heavy stall spikes team would be the best kind because you don't need to try and win, just try to not lose if that makes sense. You can work your opponent down to just walls and then have a reliable wall breaker to finish the game. I made a fairly good stall team once by thinking about this. Skarmbliss is mauled by ape right? well what counters ape? cress. So i added a cress. next, what gets through that? well boah and gyra so i added an hp electric pert. skarm spikes, pert srocks. but i needed tspikes too so i added a drapion. finally, i added a boah of my own for wall breaking and sand storm support.
