So here it is, my newest and best attempt at playing in the OU Metagame. So far this team has had good success going a great 22-11. Now I know that means its losing 1 match for every 2 it wins, but that is still effective. However, that is also why I am posting this team in here. Perhaps gettings some opinions on this team can help me figure out the points of weakness that plague this team one out of every three matches.
That theory behind this team is that powerful physically bulky pokemon can dominate the metagame. On this team you will see Popular faces from years of play and even some new faces. It also features the return of me using perhaps my favorite pokemon of all, Scizor. So with out further ado, here is the team.
1) DUGTRIO. (Hermes)
Jolly Nature (252 Speed EVs, 252 Attack EVs, 4 Defense EVs)
Focus Sash
Arena Trap
Stealth Rock
Earthquake
Stone Edge
Reversal
So allow me to start off with this team's oddball. On a team of bulky pokemon, fragile little Dugtrio is strange indeed. However, he holds his own quite well. In most of the matches I have him lead he has managed to stay ahead of the opponents lead by using earthquake and Reversal. Then when the next pokemon comes out, he drops stealth rock before being finished off. This may not seem to effective, but with the speed of Dugtrio, its more than enough to give me a bit of team advantage and setting an entry hazard on my opponents side of the field. Common leads like Politoed, Tyranitar, and Ninetails do not like going toe to toe with Dugtrio, and that is what he is on this team to do. And his Sash makes sure he takes that first hit with a smirk, before firing back.
2) CONKELDURR. (Atlas)
Brave Nature (252 Attack EVs, 120 HP EVs, 136 Special Defense EVs)
Leftovers
Guts
Stone Edge
Bulk Up
Mach Punch
Drain Punch
Alraight, lets get things started. Conkeldurr is one of three physical Powerhouses on this team. Built strong and built well, Conkeldurr can take most hits before firing back with something that is similar to a truck. After one Bulk up, He is capable of tearing through most pokemon that are not named Skarmory or Gengar. After Two Bulk Ups, well there is not my standing in his path after that. Ghosts give him a bit of trouble, but he has more often then not, handled those pokemon with shot of Stone Edge. (Sort of wish he could learn Fire Punch to deal with Skarmory better...lol) Drain Punch is for healing and dealing out sonsiderable damage. Mach is Priority. Just like the Titan Atlas, who he is named after, Conkeldurr is a being of power who is more than willing to put this team on his shoulders and carry them through the battle.
3) DRAGONITE. (Hercules)
Adamant Nature (252 Attack EVs, 252 Speed EVs, 4 Special Defense EVs)
Lum Berry
Multiscale
Dragon Dance
Outrage
Fire Punch
Extremespeed
One of the oldest faces in the game of competitve battling is perhaps my favorite dragon. Dragonite has learned new tricks over the years and stayed a top threat. On this team, he is still doing that job. Dragon Dance aids in his ability to sweep and considering the number of pokemon that can't take him head on, he has chances to boost. Outrage is purely STAB and does a great job of ridding me of threats. Extremespeed is all about wiping out frail pokemon trying to stop Dragonite's sweep. And Fire Punch is meant to deal with the Steel-types I do see. This powerhouse has completed many labors over the years. And now he is completing a new task, by making this the best team it can be. Even if he must go it alone.
4) JELLICENT. (Posideon)
Bold Nature (248 HP EVs, 216 Defense EVs, 44 Speed EVs)
Leftovers
Water Absorb
Taunt
Recover
Scald
Will-o-Wisp
This team's lord of the sea is also the answer to pokemon who depend on special or water type attacks. Walling attacks is what Jellicent does best. Its Huge Hp allows it to even out stall stalling walls. Throwing burn towards opponents only aids in the teams ability to win. But if push comes to shove Jellicent can still fire off STAB Scald for damage, before taking a break and recovering lost energy. Taunt keeps opposing sweepers from trying to get too powerful. This ghostly jellyfish is resonsible for its fair share of KOs, but I will admit does better at making sure other powerhouses on this team get their time to dominate the game.
5) SCIZOR. (Kratos)
Adamant Nature (248 HP EVs, 252 Attack EVs, 8 Special Defense EVs)
Choice Band
Technician
Bullet Punch
Pursuit
Superpower
U-Turn
Say hello to my favorite Pokemon of all time. Scizor has been on just about every team I use in OU. Those that don't have him are examples of me branching out, but it never feels quite right. So enough of the fanboying, let us get to the big picture. Scizor doesn't need set-up with this set. He just comes in and wrecks stuff. Bullet Punch is STAB, Priority, and pretty much the best attack in the world for dealing with most opponents Scizor will meet. Pursuit catches ghosts and Psychics trying to run from his awesome power. Superpower is an all out burst of energy that makes Chansey and Blissey cry. U-Turn allows Scizor to drill an opponent hard, before moving away to plan his next move. Scizor shares his name with the God of War for a reason. Try fighting him, and you will see why.
6) VOLCARONA. (Helios)
Bold Nature (240 HP EVs, 216 Defense EVs, 52 Speed EVs)
Leftovers
Flame Body
Quiver Dance
Bug Buzz
Fire Blast
Hidden Power (Rock)
The power of the Sun is Volcarona's weapon. And with Quiver Dance it has never shined brighter. Raising three stats at once is awesome and after one boost, anything less that Hydro Pump as a water attack will fall short. Bug Buzz is meant to deal with Dark types, Psychics, and anything that resists Fire. Fire Blast is main STAB and anything not resisting it is left in tatters or ashes after it hits. Hidden Power Rock deals with Flying Dragons, Flying types, and other fire pokemon. Will all that Volcarona, who started as a weak link, has risen to be one of this teams main threats. Not bad for the pokemon named after the Sun God.
So there you have it. My team all laid out for you. I will say I have run this team longer than I have run any other simply because I feel like I am getting used to it. Prediction has always been one of my weak points, however, as I have played this team more and more, I am noticing just what to expect and reacting accordingly. That being said, I am also realizing my faults on this team. Entry Hazards are an issue because I have no way to be rid of them. Two of my pokemon take serious damage from Stealth Rock. And all but two pokemon are drilled hard by Toxic Spikes.
Anyway, there is my team. Feel free to rate and share ideas. (Side note, the only reason I use Dragonite over say, Salamence is because I lack Moxie Salamence in the real games. I was able to trade for a DW Dratini.)
