ORAS UU Bulky Offense: Hoopa + Cresselia

This is a pretty cool team I made recently. It actually started out with the two mons I wanted to use being Noivern and Lunar Dance Cresselia. Turns out Noivern was sorta meh but I did keep Cresselia around as I built the team. R.I.P Noivern. Now onto the team!
Team Import : http://pastebin.com/Gqn2xFpH

Cresselia @ Leftovers
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 100 HP / 172 Def / 216 SpD / 20 Spe
Bold Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Lunar Dance
- Thunder Wave
- Moonblast
- Psyshock

First off is the one and only Moon Duck Cunt. Cresselia was the mon I actually started with alongside Noivern. This set has T-Wave as well as Healing Wish to support the team. The two remainder moveset are pretty standard having Psyshock for stab and Moonblast to deal with Dark types that want to switch in. The Ev's are put to have even bulk all around and the 20 ev's invested into speed allows me to outspeed M-blastoise with 72 ev's.

LOL Couldn't find a Hoopa BB Code so I decided on Sableye as filler. :]]]]]]]

Hoopa @ Life Orb
Ability: Magician
EVs: 116 HP / 252 SpA / 140 Spe
Modest Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Hyperspace Hole
- Shadow Ball
- Thunderbolt
- Focus Blast

Next off is Hoopa who eventually ends up replacing Noivern. Hoopa I found to be really cool mon that has great wallbreaking potential (already is). With base 150 Sp.Atk plus Life Orb makes it very hard to switch in. Hyperspace Hole is there for stab as well as Shadowball. Thunderbolt I decided was a good coverage move to hit things like M-Blastoise, Vaporeon, and Suicune. Focus Blast is there to hit Blissey and Umbreon of course. 140 speed to outspeed 72 speed M-Blastoise seeing as I didn't see any need to run max speed since it wasn't outspeeding much. 252 ev's into Sp.Atk for maximum damage output and the rest are dump into HP for more bulk.

Blastoise-Mega @ Blastoisinite
Ability: Mega Launcher
EVs: 180 HP / 252 SpA / 76 Spe
Modest Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Dark Pulse
- Ice Beam
- Scald
- Rapid Spin

Next off is M-Blastoise one of my favorite spinners in UU as well as being a good pivot on Fire and Ground moves. The set is relatively standard. 76 ev's is there to speed creep opposing M-Blastoise. Scald for stab and Ice beam to catch Grass and Dragon types. I had Dark Pulse on this set deal damage on Reuniclus as a secondary "check" to it. Rapid is there of course to get rid of hazards being I don't like to build a team without a defogger nor spinner.

373.png

Salamence @ Lum Berry
Ability: Intimidate
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Earthquake
- Dragon Dance
- Outrage
- Iron Tail

Salamence is just a great mon in general. Being a decent pivot onto Fighting types such as Mienshao and Lucario it helps check threats in the tier ( forgot Arcanine and Entei ) but it shouldn't be switched in very often. Regardless Cresselia has Lunar Dance aiding in the longevity as well as having a second chance to sweep. Earthquake is there for coverage hitting steel types and Iron Tail is there for Florges. I have Outrage over D-Claw as I very much like the stronger damage output.

638.png

Cobalion @ Shuca Berry
Ability: Justified
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Close Combat
- Stealth Rock
- Taunt
- Iron Head

Coablion OMG! You are such a good utility mon. Being such a good pivot to dark as well as dragon attacks it can also dish out good damage. Close Combat to ensure major damage on Umbreon and Blissey aiding in Hoopa's ability to run rampant. Iron Head is there for stab and not having the drawbacks of reducing stats. Taunt does help in certain occasions to prevent mons setting up or setting hazards and other annoying shenanigans. I'm running a standard utility set as I didn't need to run a special Ev spread for certain reason but to be fast and hit HARD. It's natural bulk is actually good enough.

492.png

Shaymin @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Natural Cure
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Seed Flare
- Earth Power
- Dazzling Gleam
- Psychic

Recently I have really started to like using Shaymin as a good Scald switch in as well as a good ground pivot. With it's ability to help deal with Suicune, a nuisance and threatening mon in the tier, Shaymin works wonders. Psychic is there mainly to deal with Toxicroak and Crobat. Dazzling Gleam to hit Dragon types such as Salamence and Hydreigon and Earth Power to hit Fire types. Choice Scarf Shaymin I have really started to like as I don't like generally slow teams. Shaymin also earns it's spot on the team for it's amazing coverage moves.

Well that's about it but I hope you like my team and Have a Good Day. :]]

Hey there AmountingSilver, glad to see you have another RMT and I am happy to rate it for you! :)
  • First off, while the EVs on the featured core look optimized, they aren't as effective for the team. I like the 20 Speed EVs to creep MToise running 72, I honestly feel like Max HP / Max Def > current EVs gives you a great physical wall that, while compounding weaknesses with Hoopa, allows it to take better physical hits. I also think Max SpA / Max Spe is the way to go on Hoopa so it can be the best wallbreaker and even with the invested bulk it will only be living weak neutral special hits thanks to it having paper thin Defense with an average HP stat.
  • Secondly, with being so weak to Dark-types I feel like you need a more reliable Dark check. The easiest way to fix this is to go with Leftovers > Shuca Berry on Cobalion as the only Dark-type that threatens you without Shuca Berry, Krookodile, is handled by Shaymin with Toise being a backup soft check. While Shuca may seemingly help with Ground-types in general that Cobalion should check like Mamoswine, Cresselia is a good enough Mamoswine check especially with maximum investment in its HP and Defense and Cobalion can still revenge kill it no matter what.
  • Next, I would suggest running Fire Blast > Iron Tail on DD Mence as DD Mence is hardwalled by Forretress moreso than Florges as +1 EQ does ~50%. Another thing is running Moxie > Intimidate as Porygon2 just laughs at you while it either cripples you with Thunder Wave (even if Lum Berry is consumed on the 2nd DD P2 can still tank a hit and paralyze) or OHKO with Ice Beam. Moxie insures Porygon2 cannot Trace Intimidate and use Mence's ability against itself. However, you lose out on a few setup opportunities so I at least suggest trying both.
  • Lastly, Choice Scarf on Shaymin is so bad as 1) Scarf mons in UU aren't as relevant and 2) Shaymin has amazing coverage. That being said I suggest running Life Orb > Choice Scarf and Synthesis > Psychic as the ability to switch between moves takes advantage of Seed Flare's 30% Special Defense drops while Synthesis provides decent recovery on a forced switch because of Seed Flare. Psychic isn't as needed since Crobat is checked by Cobalion and crippled by Cresselia.
Other than that, the team looks good. Hope you enjoy my rate :)

When I was using Cresselia I didn't know what spread to run other than the suggested one by Smogon. Thus I ran I weird Ev spread but (as always thanks for the rating) I will change Cresselia's spread as you suggested. As for Cobalion, Salamence, and Shaymin I will make the appropriate changes.

Hey man, cool looking team, it's always cool to see Hoopa, it can be extremely threatening to defensive minded teams. But I'd like to recommend a couple of things to help out.

  • First off, I can really see that team can have some trouble with Stall, a more common playstyle used on high ladder. That's why I'd like to recommend using a Nasty Plot set to help combat this weakness. I'd probably go with Nasty Plot over Thunderbolt and Psyshock over Hyperspace Hole. Nasty Plot helps you deal even more damage to more defensive minded teams and Psyshock can hit things like Blissey, Florges, and Snorlax on their weaker Defense side, which is always helpful. If you really want to screw over stall, you could also go with Substitute over Psyshock, as Sub NP can pretty much autowin against a majority of Stall teams. Here's the set to import if you choose to take my suggestion.

    Hoopa @ Life Orb
    Ability: Magician
    EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
    Timid Nature
    - Shadow Ball
    - Focus Blast
    - Psyshock / Substitute
    - Nasty Plot

  • Next, I saw that team doesn't have an electric immunity. With VoltTurn being a more prominent playstyle, its almost essential to have an electric immunity on every team. That's why I'd like to recommend Mamoswine over Salamence. Mamoswine gives you that needed electric immunity as well as gives you priority to Ice Shard to a hit a set-up Salamence, which can really put a dent in this team. It might also be helpful to put max def on Cresselia to further help you with those Fighting-Types. Here's the set I'd like to recommend, pretty much just a standard Life Orb set.

    Mamoswine @ Life Orb
    Ability: Thick Fat
    EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spe
    Jolly Nature
    - Knock Off
    - Icicle Crash
    - Ice Shard
    - Earthquake
  • Lastly, I'd like to recommend Aura Sphere over Ice Beam on Blastoise, as it helps you hit Porygon2 and Snorlax for some huge damage,
Other than those changes, I think you have a very solid team :] good luck!

Thanks for the rating. I very much appreciate it that you're willing to give me a rating. :] But anyways I have already implemented the max hp max def Cress onto my team.As for your Hoopa set I will try to implement it as well as the Mamo over Mence and see how both would function.

Hey there, AmountingSilver! Nice team you have going there. Here are a couple of suggestions that should be able to help.

  • Firstly, I wanted to bring up the option of running Trick Room over Nasty Plot or Thunderbolt on Hoopa. Trick Room Hoopa can be very devastating against offensive teams after you get the opportunity to set up a Trick Room. Another thing really worth noting is that Trick Room Hoopa gets to invest into its bulk instead of speed, making it a lot easier for it to set up and generally able to take more hits. I personally prefer this set over anything else because it lets me take advantage of both Hoopa's amazing Special Attack and its slow speed! However, if you prefer to deal better with defensive teams, then definitely take Shiba's suggestion of running Nasty Plot over Trick Room. The only downside to running Nasty Plot is that Hoopa becomes pretty useless against fast paced teams, which you'll be seeing more often than defensive based ones. Also, definitely replace Hyperspace Hole with Psyshock.

  • The other thing that I noticed is that your water check is Shaymin. In my opinion, Shaymin is a really shaky water check because of Seed Flare's accuracy, as well as low amount of PP. This means that Suicune, the most common bulky water, could possibly take advantage of it after it gets a CM or two up prior to Shaymin's switch in, as it has the ability Pressure which is able to make Seed Flare run out even quicker. You would most likely have to rely on a Seed Flare drop if your opponent catches you in a bad situation, and although the drop rate is pretty great, I would rather not have to depend on both that and actually hitting Seed Flare. Because of this, I would like to suggest replacing Shaymin with a more solid Suicune/water check in Heliolisk. Due to having the ability Dry Skin, you could now switch into Scald even easier while not having to worry about getting stalled out by Cune. Though, keep in mind that switching into statuses would be more punishing now since you don't have Natural Cure. Anyways, feel free to try it out. Whether you want to run Scarf or Life Orb is up to you.
