Bulky Offense (OU) RMT

Introduction:
Okay, so one day I decided that I was tired of my sweepers dying from LO damage, getting locked into moves by choice items, and all around just not lasting long enough. So I decided to make a bulky offense team. After hours of looking up bulky offense teams in Smogon's OU RMT Archive I came up with some ideas of a solid bulky offense team. So heres my team.

Metagross @ Occa Berry
Clear Body
Adamant (+Atk, -Sp.Atk)
252 HP / 236 Atk / 12 Def / 8 Spd
-Stealth Rock
-Bullet Punch
-Earthquake
-Explosion

I love this Pokemon as a lead, and I've never got the chance to use it as one before. As far as I know it doesn't lose to any leads, not even Infernape (due to the Occa Berry) and it has the option of using Explode on something, or switching out and coming back later in the game and killing things then with Bullet Punch, or in the rare ocasion that it outspeeds something Earthquake or Explosion. The EV's are so that I can take super effective hits from common leads, the Adamant nature and 252 Atk EV's are so I can do as much damage as possible, 12 Def for taking hits, and 8 Spd to beat slower leads.

Rotom-H @ Leftovers
Levitate
Modest (+Sp.Atk, -Atk)
252 HP/ 4 Def / 252 Sp.Atk
-Discharge
-Will-o-Wisp
-Rest
-Sleep Talk

This is a great way to use Rotom-H, it acts as my team's PHazer, and can suprisingly is able to do a pretty good job at sweeping. Along with W-o-W it does'nt take much damage from any physical attackers, and has saved me from some a few times from some really bad sitiuations. This Rotom also acts as my spin-blocker, seeing as I get many more OHKO's with SR up than without. I have seen this EV and nature on some other Rotoms lately and I would like to mention that I was the first to use it :)

Gyarados @ Leftovers
Intimidate
Adamant (+Atk, -Sp.Atk)
252 HP / 252 Atk / 4 Def
-Dragon Dance
-Waterfall
-Stone Edge
-Earthquake

Gyarados is a great Pokemon, and it only makes sense to use him on a bulky offense team, I mean he fits the description perfectly. Pretty much what he does on my team is he acts as one of my many offensive Pokemon, and he gets the job done really well.He is rediculously hard to take down, a lot of people try to explode my Gyarados away with their Bronzongs once I'm down to around 70% health, but then I get to laugh at them as they just gave me a turn to set up with Dragon Dance. The attacks are self explanitory as is the nature, but the EV's are a bit different, max HP to take hits, and max Atk because Gyarados is all about attack.

380.png

Latias @ Leftovers
Levitate
Modest (+Sp.Atk, -Atk)
252 HP / 4 Spd / 252 Sp.Atk
-Calm Mind
-Dragon Pulse
-Surf
-Recover

Latias makes for a great bulky sweeper, he has the defensive stats to use CM a few times, use Recover, and then proceed to sweep. Recover is for maximum survivability, CM for something to boost my Sp.Atk stat, and Surf and Dragon Pulse to get as good coverage as possible. The max HP is to keep him around for as long as I can, max Sp.Atk to do some damage, and Modest nature to max out my Sp.Atk.

Scizor @ Leftovers
Technician
Adamant (+Atk, Sp.Atk)
252 HP / 252 Atk / 4 Def
-Swords Dance
-Bullet Punch
-Brick Break
-Roost

Scizor is a wonderful Pokemon to add on to a bulky offense team due to his great typing, and his defensive stats mixed with his base 130 Atk. This is a relatively standard set with a few edits, such as roost over a Bug or Dark attack, and I thing I have slightly different EV's thatn the standard bulky SD Scizor. Thanks to Roost Scizor stays in the game for a really long time, and most people don't see it coming, so they may have to make another switch. Scizor doesn't usually come in until late game, but when I see an oppurtunity to SD I'll throw him in a bit early.

145.png

Zapdos @ Leftovers
Pressure
Modest (+Sp.Atk, -Atk)
252 HP / 4 Def / 252 Sp.Atk
-Thunderbolt
-Heat Wave
-Hidden Power (Grass)
-Roost

I've used Zapdos as a wall, and as a sweeper before, so I figured why not try him as a bulky sweeper? So I did. And it's been working gret so far. with this EV spread and nature it has 384 Atk, which is the special equivalent of an Adamant Gyarados. He also has 384 HP, so he can take a hit pretty well. This move set is relatively standard, but the EV's and nature are different from any other set, as are most EV spreads of the Pokemon on this team.

Conclusion:
So far so good, this team is somewhere around 25-2, and I'm actually starting to see other people use these move sets and EV's (I've posted this team before, but there was a lot wrong with the format etc...) so I'm not necesarily sure if they got them from this RMT or they thought of them on their own.

Just a few suggestions regarding Gyarados: I would really suggest that you use 144spe evs to outrun max speed Gengar and Latias, who could quickly end your sweep otherwise. Given that you have significant defensive investment, you wan to be able to set up without being phazed or otherwise crippled. Therefore I would suggest Taunt over Earthquake. The remaining moves still have great coverage, although you may want to consider bounce over stone edge, as it is very powerful, has even better coverage, is more accurate and carries a high paralysis chance. It also lets you beat Celebi, a common switch-in.

I get the feeling that a CB scizor might fit your team better, since you are in need of a powerful revenge killer to take out, for example, salamence.

Also, on Rotom, running such significant offensive investment seems counter-intuitive when running only one attack, particularly considering you chose discharge over thunderbolt. I suggest you delegate the EVs between the defenses.

Good luck.

Pretty solid team. I don't have much experience in rating, but one Pokemon that really jumps out to me that you could have some problems with is Tyranitar.

These Evs spreads really that aren't original. Almost half of them are found on the Smogon Dex. The other half are just bad. I'm talking about Gyarados, Latias, Zapdos, and Rotom. Their Evs spreads don't fit their movesets. It's almost like a newb trainer decided to slap 252 EVs down in any stat they thought was appropriate.

If you wanted to sweep, then Speed is the most important stat for a sweeper. Without speed, how are you going to attack before you opponent attacks? Max HP won't help you nearly as much. In fact a Pokemon with Max HP can die even faster than a Pokemon with Max HP.
For example if you switched in your Zapdos or Rotom to counter a Swords Dancing Lucario. Since you are slower and don't have any defense EVs, Lucario can easily KO you with Crunch/Stone Edge/Ice Punch. Whether you have Max HP or not doesn't make a difference.
However, if you were faster this wouldn't happen since you could defeat it with Overheat/Heat Wave before it attacked.

It's even worse for Gyarados. A Gyarados with no Speed EVs will only reach 297 after a Dragon Dance. That's SLOW for a Pokemon with a speed boost. You can't even outrun Salamence or any thing else that can reach 300 Speed.

Furthermore, it doesn't make sense that Rotom has max Sp Attack. You only have one attack. What happens when an opponent sends in something like Jolteon? Your Special Attack EVs suddenly become useless since your only attack doesn't work.

Hey there,

I like the general lineup of the team, but there are a few changes that I think could make a big difference in the success of the squad.

Because I like the lineup, most of my fixes will be with ev spreads.

Rotom - Try 252 HP / 200 Def / 56 Special Def with a Bold nature. The RestTalk Rotom set if supposed to take hits nicely and is not quite as worried about dishing them right back as your EV spread was oriented to do. This EV spread allows you to take on stuff like Gyarados much more easily than you could with a less defensive EV spread.

For Gyarados - See jc104's suggestion, it is a good one. Take the Speed EVs out of HP.

For Latias - You should use a spread of 4 HP / 252 Special Attack / 252 Speed, with a Timid nature. This makes Latias much more of a threat. Your moveset is offensive, so complementing the moveset with offensive evs should fit nicely. Latias' defenses are still very nice, so the fewer bulk evs shouldnt be a problem. In addition, you absolutely need a Timid nature. One of Latias' biggest strengths is its speed, as 110 speed puts Latias ahead of a ton of Pokemon, such as Salamence. Therefore, pumping Latias' speed is a must.

CB Scizor is a good idea in my opinion. Your team really struggles against stuff like DD Salamence and you have a slight Latias weakness. Giving Scizor a Choice Band solves many of these issues. In addition, you can Pursuit problematic Pokemon like Latias so that your team has an easier time against these threats. Here is the set:

Scizor @ Choice Band
Adamant / Technician
248 HP / 252 Attack / 8 Speed
-U Turn
-Bullet Punch
-SuperPower
-Pursuit

Now, I think replacing Zapdos is a good idea. You already have Rotom, and the two are fairly redundant together. I think you have a weakness to stall teams, because your team cannot do very much damage to them. Luckily, RestTalk Rotom and Taunt Gyarados are great against stall, but I think we can really seal the deal with the last slot here. A Taunt Gliscor not only really helps you out against stall, but helps deal with a Tyranitar and Lucario weakness. Taunt allows Gliscor to prevent stall teams from completing their strategy while Gliscor whittles away at their health through Earthquake and Toxic, with Roost to restore health. Here is the set:

Gliscor @ Leftovers
Jolly / Sand Veil
252 HP / 40 Def / 216 Speed
-Taunt
-Toxic
-Roost
-Earthquake

While I normally recommend max speed, you have Gyarados and Latias to laugh at opposing Gliscor, so you can afford to gain a little extra defensive bulk while still outspeeding all Lucarios.

Good Luck with your team!

Note: You forgot the stat for Zapdos's last 252 EVs. You can also change HP [Grass] to HP [Ice] to deal with Dragon types, because Gyarados can deal with Swampert.

For Rotom, I would suggest using another bulky spread, but change Rest and Sleep Talk to Pain Split and Substitute. Getting a sub allows you to Will-O-Wisp Tyranitar, the most common switch-in. This makes it much easier for your Gyarados to get a Dragon Dance.

Weaknesses:
Salamence- Nothing you have can really take on Salamence. Scizor can BP when it's HP is low, but MixMence usually carry Roost. Latias cannot beat DDMence, and neither can anything else. You might want a faster pokemon that can revenge kill it, such as a ScarfLatias. I would try to fix this a bit, but I know Salamence really has no counters.

Other Rotom-H-
I see your Latias has lots of support, Zapdos/Gyarados for Scizor, and Scizor for TTar, but what supports Gyarados? One of the biggest threats to Gyarados is Rotom, bulky or scarfed. This can take down Metagross, Scizor, Gyarados, and even your own Rotom with Shadow Ball. Latias and Zapdos are your best options, but they arn't too reliable.

You have 3 Pokemon that set up. You need to beat your counters before you can do this, and that requires switching. Gyarados and Zapdos both have a Stealth Rock weakness, and Gyarados has no recovery move. Just think about this before you try to set up :3 Also, you can switch Scizor to a CB set as mentioned above. This would also help deal more damage to Salamence.

Otherwise, good team. It looks like your Pokemon help each other out and have good synergy. Good luck! :)

The moves are the same because Pain Split was not available as a move on the Smogon server.

I haven't tested this team yet, because I'm kind of tired, so I'll post how it does tommorow, and see how well it does.

Smogon has HGSS moves on it. When you create a team select the Smogon University server.

Otherwise, the changes look good. Test the team more and post some results.

Alright, I just tested the new version of the team, and it is currently 8-2. I'm very pleased with it so far, but I have some problems with 252 Spd Suicune, which I've never really thought of as an actual threat to any team, and second I've had problems with Rotoms. Other than that, the teams doing pretty well, although I'm not sure that I have all the items right, so if someone could correct them that would be great.
