Bulky Offense OU Team

My previous team I had for the Gen, while had some good Pokémon, kept losing when I faced my friends. I was stumped as to why I was losing so much this Gen when last Gen I did so well. I started to notice the Pokémon of mine that were doing the best on my team were my walls and then it hit me: I’m better with bulky Pokémon, not relatively frail sweepers! So, after much thought and effort, I made a far improved team that fits my play style and has won more times than it has lost.

Mr. Mole (Excadrill) (M) @ Assault Vest
Ability: Mold Breaker
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SDef / 252 Spd
Adamant Nature
- Earthquake
- Rock Slide
- Iron Head
- Rapid Spin

A Pokémon that was banned last Gen only to come back with a vengeance. Excadrill is here as a bulky sweeper. Plus, with a 1/4 Stealth Rock resistance and an immunity to Toxic Spikes, there aren’t many better Rapid Spinners in the game. An additional bonus is being immune to the common status moves Toxic and Thunder Wave. STAB Mold Breaker Earthquake takes out many foes, including Gengar and Rotom-Wash. Rock Slide hits what Earthquake can not. Iron Head is there as an extra cover move. as it does even more damage against Fairies plus acts as a better STAB moves against Flying types, etc. Rapid Spin is there to get rid of Entry Hazards. Exca is holding my favorite new item this Gen: Assault Vest. With no status moves, Exca gets a 50% boost in Sp. Def, which is very useful as his common weaknesses are typically Special.

Yukiteru (Vaporeon) (M) @ Leftovers
Ability: Water Absorb
EVs: 248 HP / 252 Def / 8 SDef
Bold Nature
- Scald
- Ice Beam
- Protect
- Wish

My favorite Eeveelution is also a really good wall on my team thanks to excellent HP and good defenses on both counts. He literally absorbs the Water attacks that hurt my Excadrill and Gliscor and resists Ice attacks aimed at Goodra and, once again, Gliscor. Even without Rain, Scald still hits fairly hard and that chance for Burn is always useful. Ice Beam is for coverage and is always a good move to have since it hits so many Pokémon. Wish is great for healing my team, especially Goodra and Excadrill since neither of them have access to healing themselves. Protect rounds off the team as a way for Wish to be used on Vaporeon himself if needed.

The Batman (Gliscor) (M) @ Toxic Orb
Ability: Poison Heal
EVs: 244 HP / 40 Def / 224 Spd
Impish Nature
- Earthquake
- Protect
- Ice Fang
- Toxic

If you have been look at my teams for a while, you will recognize this guy. This is the same Gliscor set I’ve been using since my Sandstorm team last Gen and the only Pokémon to survive the change from the initial Gen VI team. Poison Heal Gliscor heals really well, better than Leftovers and it keeps it immune to Frozen, Burn, Sleep, or the rare Paralyze (well, rare for a Ground-type). Earthquake is an excellent STAB and Ice Fang covers nicely. Protect is there to let Toxic Orb do its thing as well as give The Batman a free turn to heal (I love doing that before I switch him out so he has higher HP before leaving the fray and wasting a PP of an opponent’s move). Rounding off the moveset is Toxic, helping me get rid of many bulky Pokémon.

Goozilla (Goodra) (M) @ Assault Vest
Ability: Sap Sipper
EVs: 248 HP / 8 Def / 252 SAtk
Modest Nature
- Dragon Pulse
- Sludge Bomb
- Flamethrower
- Thunderbolt

The only Pokémon on this team that is truly new, Goodra has earned his place on my team. A wonderfully bulky Special Attacker with a wonderful movepool, Goodra keeps enemy Pokémon on their toes. Just like Excadrill, Goodra has an Assault Vest, boosting his already excellent Special Defense even higher. Sap Sipper is useful for when I face the occasional Breloom and Smeargle (I’ve killed a few Breloom after it tried to put Goodra to sleep). Dragon Pulse is a good STAB move with Sludge Bomb and Flamethrower to help out against Fairies and Steel-type Pokémon. Thunderbolt is there since eariler versions of the team did badly against Vaporeon.

Tony Stark (Scizor) (M) @ Scizorite
Ability: Technician
EVs: 252 HP / 12 Atk / 244 SDef
Adamant Nature
- Knock Off
- X-Scissor
- Swords Dance
- Roost

Time for my Mega. This Scizor is very similar to the one I had at the beginning of last Gen, except this time it has a base 150 Atk and 140 Def, it is excellent in the physical department with a respectable 100 base Sp. Def. Swords Dance helps boost Mega Scizor to unholy levels of power while Roost helps heal the damage he takes while setting up. Bullet Punch is the standard STAB which wrecks everything. Knock Off adds both coverage and the ability to get rid of items. I’ve seen this Scizor (after getting 3 Dances off) 2HKO a Kyogre with a resisted Bullet Punch. Just an amazing Pokémon.

113.png

Hikari (Chansey) (F) @ Eviolite
Ability: Natural Cure
EVs: 248 HP / 252 Def / 4 SDef
Bold Nature
- Aromatherapy
- Softboiled
- Thunder Wave
- Seismic Toss

After trying both Chansey and Blissey out for the role of Special Wall, I’ve decided on the Generation I Pokémon instead of the Gen II one. Not from nostalgia but because I prefer the increased bulk from Eviolite over the continuous recovery of Leftovers (though I will admit I only tried Chansey because when I was originally building my team, my Dedenne hadn’t picked up my second Leftovers in Y and I wanted Vaporeon on my team as well). I’ve seen Garchomp only able to 3HKO with Outrage. Actually, it never got there thanks to Chansey’s egg based variant to Recover, Soft-Boiled. Aromatherapy is there to heal my team of status (though it occasionally heals my Gliscor, but I think about the pros and cons of each use of Aromatherapy, so it rarely hurts me). Thunder Wave is there to help slow down enemies since my team aren’t the fastest Pokémon in the game. Finally, since Chansey has bad Special Attack and even worse physical Attack, she has Seismic Toss to hit foes.

So there’s my team, exactly as it is on Pokémon Alpha Sapphire. I’m quite happy with my team, though I would be interested in hearing what suggestions any of you have, especially since this was originally made before the release of Pokémon Bank. Just remember, I have to be able to have it on my physical copy of Pokémon Alpha Sapphire, so keep that in mind when making suggestions. Like last Gen, I would prefer no Legendary Pokémon, even more so than ever since I can't breed perfect IVs on them.

Holy damn... now that's a bulky team!!! (staples "that's a low price" guy voice)

Just a couple of nitpicks: (all for PS and not your card unless you can manage it... and yes perfect IVs are hard to get on a card -_-' )

Excadrill: Why not run Iron Head > Shadow Claw. You receive STAB with it and can hit Fairies like Gardevoir, Sylveon, Clefable and Togekiss for massive damage.

Goodra: Change ability from Sap Sipper < Gooey. Your team is a bit on the slow side and could really benefit from it seeing as only Physical Sweepers like Conkeldurr and Charizard X will prolly try to take you down.

Chansey: This is more about preference; but have you tried Blissey with Leftovers > Chansey with Eviolite. With all the Knock Off Conkeldurrs and Bisharps running around now, it almost seems necessary to run with Blissey imo.

Tell me what you think.

Iron Head is a good suggestion and I might try it out (I wish they would just keep the Move Tutors in the first paired versions).
I keep hearing Gooey vs Sap Sipper. It's a war with no clear victor, honestly.
I did try both Chansey on Blissey on Showdown before I built my team. I just prefer Chansey, but it really is just preference to which one a person uses in that case.

Hi there. First of all, you are not using Stealth Rock. Considering how bulky of a team you are using, Stealth Rock is an absolute necessity. An easy fix for this would be using it over Aromatherapy on Chansey.

Now, there are some threats I'd like to dicuss. Swords Dance Mega Pinsir is an extremely big threat to your team: if it sets up just one Swords Dance, it outspeeds and OHKOes every single member of your team. It may not seem like it has a lot of setup opportunities, but it can set up versus Gliscor, Vaporeon or Scizor at the cost of some damage. Mega Charizard X is another boosting Mega that can roast your team. It can set up versus Scizor or Vaporeon pretty easily, and after a Dragon Dance you are in big trouble. Scizor is the only one who can reliably take a +1 Outrage after Stealth Rock, and it is roasted by Flare Blitz. It can't even do much back when Charizard is locked in Outrage, as Bullet Punch does a maximum of 18% damage. There's another Mega I can see you having a hard time with, namely Mega Mawile. With either Swords Dance or Substitute, it can set up versus Vaporeon or Chansey. After a Swords Dance, you have notable problems against it. With just Sucker Punch it KOes four of your members without having to worry about Speed, and it 2HKOes Gliscor while tanking an Earthquake, and Fire Fang KOes Scizor while tanking a Bullet Punch (combined does 92% minimum, so even a combination of full health Gliscor and Scizor won't be guaranteed to stop it). Finally, I can see you having problems with Swords Dance Garchomp, if it sets up versus Chansey for example, it's gonna be hard to stop. Take a look at these calcs:
+2 252 Atk Life Orb Garchomp Outrage vs. 244 HP / 40+ Def Gliscor: 370-437 (105.1 - 124.1%) -- guaranteed OHKO
+2 252 Atk Life Orb Garchomp Outrage vs. 248 HP / 252+ Def Vaporeon: 500-590 (107.9 - 127.4%) -- guaranteed OHKO
+2 252 Atk Life Orb Garchomp Outrage vs. 248 HP / 252+ Def Eviolite Chansey: 675-795 (96 - 113%) -- guaranteed OHKO after Stealth Rock
12+ Atk Technician Mega Scizor Bullet Punch vs. 4 HP / 0 Def Garchomp: 106-126 (29.6 - 35.1%) -- 16.3% chance to 3HKO
+2 252 Atk Life Orb Garchomp Earthquake vs. 252 HP / 0 Def Mega Scizor: 317-374 (92.1 - 108.7%) -- guaranteed OHKO after Stealth Rock
+2 252 Atk Life Orb Garchomp Outrage vs. 252 HP / 0 Def Mega Scizor: 191-225 (55.5 - 65.4%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

Now, you could consider is using Choice Scarf Heatran > Excadrill. Now, I know Excadrill has Rapid Spin and Heatran doesn't, other than that I don't think Excadrill does too much for your team. Scarf Heatran helps notably when checking the aforementioned threats: while it needs to be careful switching into Pinsir, if it's in it can easily revenge kill, even if the opponent decides to use Quick Attack for a maximum of 33% at +2. Fire Blast, on the other hand, easily KOes. Heatran is also a solid switchin to Charizard X. It can't take an Earthquake, but more don't carry it than do. Also, locking it in Outrage still gets the job done. Heatran can KO Charizard X with Earth Power after Stealth Rock. Versus Mega Mawile, usually their only option is to Sucker Punch, trying to kill (Play Rough and Fire Fang are pretty much useless), so this is the perfect time to Will-O-Wisp and avoid any damage. Finally, SD Garchomp can KO Heatran with Earthquake, but if you can bring it in Hidden Power Ice is a KO with just a little of prior damage. Here's the set:
Heatran_anime.png

Heatran @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Flash Fire
EVs: 252 SAtk / 4 SDef / 252 Spd
Timid Nature
- Overheat / Fire Blast
- Earth Power
- Will-O-Wisp
- Hidden Power Ice

Now, I was also gonna offer an alternate solution (that left out Pinsir), in defensive Landorus-T with Hidden Power Ice > Gliscor, but now that I'm typing this I realized that you didn't want any legendaries. Uh, I suppose Skarmory can do a good job too. It can also set up Spikes, which is great. It beats Pinsir, Garchomp really reliably, and it can take on Mawile as well, but unfortunately it has no way to beat Charizard X unless you force it into Outrage. So, keep that in mind. It can work over Excadrill as well, with Defog / Spikes / Roost / Whirlwind, so you keep the hazards removal. Though, better is probably using it over Gliscor, so yeah you can use Brave Bird as well and Skarmory has a lot of overlap with Gliscor anyways. This gives your team double hazards as well which is great as it can force a lot of switches.

GL, sorry for the misunderstanding about the no legendaries thing.
