I rarely venture off onto the realm of gods that is Ubers. I tend to have a really hard time picking Pokémon from the amazing and cool selection. This time, however, I had a plan. When working on my current OU team, I had discovered that I’m best with bulky Pokémon compared to those more dedicated to sweeping. So, I looked for anything that could take hits. The result was this:

Team Analysis:
Silver (Lugia) @ Leftovers
Ability: Multiscale
EVs: 252 HP / 176 Def / 80 SDef
Bold Nature
- Roost
- Whirlwind
- Aeroblast
Toxic
“Did Ho-oh have a movie? I think not!”
-Lugia
The first time I ever saw a Lugia, I wanted one. So of course I picked it. That and Lugia is one of the bulkiest things to ever be crammed into a Poké Ball. With amazing 106 / 130 / 154 defenses combined with Multiscale and Roost, not much can damage the Titan of the Sea. Toxic is to wear down other bulky Pokémon while Whirlwind is to phaze those who would dare set up on it (bonus residual damage from my entry hazards). Aeroblast rounds off the set with a nice STAB move.
Lugia’s main weaknesses are Toxic and Stealth Rocks. Luckily, I have several things to help counter those.
Crom (Arceus-Steel) @ Iron Plate
Ability: Multitype
EVs: 248 HP / 8 SAtk / 252 Spd
Timid Nature
- Calm Mind
- Judgment
- Will-O-Wisp
Recover
“Crom, where is the trainer who killed my mother!”
-Cubone the Barbarian
(Sorry, the joke was too good to pass up)
What would an Uber team be without Arceus? Even with the defensive nerf Steel received this generation, it remains one of the best defensive mono-type in the game. Calm Mind makes Arceus more bulky specially and makes his signature move Judgment all the more powerful. Will-O-Wisp, in addition to increasing his physical bulk against non-Fire-types, also adds residual damage as he sets up. Finally, Recover helps heal any damage Arceus takes as he charges his laser.
Cthulhu (Tentacruel) (M) @ Black Sludge
Ability: Rain Dish
EVs: 248 HP / 8 Def / 252 SDef
Sassy Nature
IVs: 0 Spd
- Rapid Spin
- Toxic Spikes
- Scald
- Sludge Wave
"Ph'nglui mglw'nafh Cthulhu R'lyeh wgah'nagl fhtagn"
-Clearly someone with seventeen tongues and three throats
Tentacruel I added cause I needed someone who could lay down some form of Spikes and Spin them away. I was going to add Forrtress, but I already had two Steel-types, so it felt like a bad idea, so I went with Tentacruel (that and I had a better nickname for this). Rapid Spin helps to get rid of annoying entry hazards and Toxic Spikes is to help slowly kill my opponent’s Pokémon. Scald and Sludge Wave are both awesome STAB moves than can inflict status on my opponent. While not as good as it was last gen, Rain Dish still helps to heal Tentacruel when Kyogre comes to play.
Pele (Heatran) (F) @ Leftovers
Ability: Flash Fire
Shiny: Yes
EVs: 252 HP / 4 SAtk / 252 SDef
Calm Nature
- Lava Plume
- Toxic
- Stealth Rock
- Roar
“Yeah, I can resist Ice. Can you do that Groudon?”
-Heatran
Heatran is so awesome. She has good special bulk and is immune to Fire-type attacks, which helps out against the many Charizards I’ve had to fight (seriously, I think every person I’ve played against in Ubers had a Charizard of some sort). In addition, it is the ONLY Pokémon that quad-resists Fairy, which makes it able to withstand a Moonblast from Xerneas. The EV investment and Leftovers help it survive attacks, especially those Specially based. Lava Plume is an excellent STAB (just ask Water-types who love their version, Scald). Toxic is for residual damage, Stealth Rock is to wear out the opponents (and helps against the aforementioned Charizard), and Roar is to get rid of those Pokémon that set up and is a semi-offensive move thanks to Rocks.
Lovecraft (Giratina-Origin) @ Griseous Orb
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 252 Atk / 248 Def / 8 SDef
Adamant Nature
- Defog
- Shadow Sneak
- Dragon Tail
- Earthquake
"The most merciful thing in the world, I think, is the inability of the human mind to correlate all its contents."
- H. P. Lovecraft
Giratina-O, you sexy thing. While not quite as bulky as its Altered Forme, it still has amazing 150 / 100 / 100 defenses and an extra immunity to Ground (which helps my poor Steel-types). This might be the most offensive Pokémon on my team thanks to an incredible Atk stat. Defog is to help get rid of entry hazards. Shadow Sneak is a great STAB with priority. Dragon Tail is another great STAB, making anything it hits go away, with the exception of Fairies. Also, both moves are boosted by the required Griseous Orb. Finally, to round off the moveset is Earthquake.
Yuno (Sylveon) (F) @ Leftovers
Ability: Pixilate
EVs: 248 HP / 8 SAtk / 252 SDef
Calm Nature
- Hyper Voice
- Wish
- Protect
- Heal Bell
“You’re in my personal space.”
-Yukiteru Amano
“I am your personal space.”
-Yuno Gasai
Orignally, I had a Mewtwo in this space, but I never needed it, so I decided to switch it out for something more defensive. Sylveon’s main job is Cleric and Special Wall, which explains both the EV spread and 3 of her moves. Wish and Heal Bell is to help out with some of my Pokémon when needed (especially Heal Bell to get rid of Toxic on Lugia). Protect is both a good stall move and allows Wish to be used on herself instead of a teammate. Finally, STAB Hyper Voice is amazing as it says “LOL, no,” to anyone behind a substitute.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
There you have it, my first Uber team of the generation. So far, the result of every match has been the same: my opponent quitting. Seriously, I played several matches and every one ended with my opponent just giving up. It was ridiculous. Though, to be fair, one of them did face Crom with +6 in both Sp Atk and Sp Def, Stealth Rocks, and two layers of Toxic Spikes.
All in all, I’m pretty happy with the team, but would be willing to hear suggestions. Unlike my usual teams, there are no real restrictions since this will not be build on my 3DS.
Also, yeah, I named my Sylveon after Yuno Gasai from Mirai Nikki. What of it?
