in BW we put substitute on everything
Excadrill @ Leftovers
Ability: Sand Force
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Substitute
- Protect
- Earthquake
- Iron Head
Thanks to its huge base 135 Attack stat and Sand Force boosting its STAB moves under sand, Excadrill can do significant damage to most of BW OU even without a damage-boosting item. Earthquake and Iron Head hit the entire metagame for at least neutral damage bar Skarmory, Gyarados, Rotom-W, and Thundurus-T, and few Pokemon other than Gliscor and Landorus-T can repeatedly stomach hits from it. However, much of Excadrill's utility comes from its typing. It can safely come in against Choice-locked Dragon-types such as Latios and Garchomp and metagame staples such as Tyranitar, Jirachi, and Reuniclus and chase them out. Its typing also makes it 4x resistant to Stealth Rock and grants it an immunity to sand, giving it very good longevity in combination with Protect. Substitute is a great option on Excadrill to protect it against the status that runs rampant in BW OU, ease prediction on switches, and stop Intimidate from Landorus-T. Protect and Substitute are also great for scouting the many Choice item users in BW OU and together can be used to stall out opposing Pokemon with sand and status or PP stall Rotom-W's Hydro Pump. Keep in mind that using Substitute Excadrill means you must run other hazard control or a team that is not weak to Spikes.
